Craig Wiltshire joins me to explain everything and more!
We even cover some questions sent in via social media around this qualification.
Craig was an absolute gentleman and explained thing from the coal face of assessment.

I've been sparking on the tools for 7 years, and found the 2356-99 course more difficult than I thought it would be. I've always done install work so I struggled with the questions abit. But as craig said, you come out a better electrician for it, and it's no a micky mouse course, far from it in my eyes. Mark, if your reading this you are a true gentleman, what you do for people is very humbling.

I agree mate the EWA in whatever form allows for us to learn. I guess you get out what you put in is the best way to put it? Thanks for the kind words but we all do our bit in the sparky game! So many cracking people so back at you mate 👍

I personally think that the first course should be design and verification as that is the most important thing to learn that gives you the knowledge to make a good choice of material and cables to use

Should be a domestic route as industrial and commercial might not interest everyone some individual just want to be domestic work

I just paid my fee and waiting to start. Thanks to 2008 market conditions, I never found a mate to develop an NVQ at the beginning. The last 5 years on a site, I ended up mentoring an apprentice through his AM2S with success. I figured that is enough of a reminder to finally get closure and aim to acquire my AM2E myself. ✌️

Ps since C&G took over trade skills 4 u, you now need to get a Level 2 before you can even get on the experienced worker route. What a joke.

Excellent pod cast, I’ll echo Craig and tell people it’s far from a “Mickey Mouse” course and believe me you will be put through your paces at assessments, if you think you can stick a couple of pics up and give it blah blah and pass your in for a shock!!! If you don’t know the basic fundamentals you will fall at the first fence!, how do I know..... Craig was my assessor, and he gives you the truth, he will help you if you show willing and be honest with him, it’s a 2 way street, you get out what you put in!!! On the flip side I managed to teach him a few small things about trains 😂😂😂

I want to do my NVQ, I really like this guy to be my accessor. I think his reasoning is amazing. How can I get on to a provider to do my assessment with this guy

How can people in their 50 with all that experience be expected to do nvq level 3 it is a bit of a joke

Same was as someone in the 40s. I found it good and I didn't necessarily have to do it.

I was on board til you tried to inspire sympathy for the JIB
@A121podcast
@A121podcast Год назад
Nobody is looking for sympathy for anyone. But if you want to learn about the JIB they did a podcast with myself and Neil Bridgeman on the electricians podcast. I was stunned to learn how few employees the JIB have and what they actually do. We all have different views on these things and that's just fine

@@A121podcast They are responsible for keeping industry wages down. They are almost the sole reason plasterers are getting paid more than us on site.
@A121podcast
@A121podcast Год назад
@@electricalstuff259 They mediate between the ECA and Unite the union on wages for JIB member companies ONLY. Those wages come along with other requirements around holiday pay, health care, training, hours etc. The headline rates are abused by industry who are not JIB member companies and those rates are a minimum. Its easy to blame the JIB but the truth is somewhat different.
