Craig Wiltshire joins me to discuss the brand new domestic experienced worker route!
This is suitable for people with 3 years working experience in the domestic sector who are currently working in that environment and want to attain the domestic electrician standard.
You must have 3 years relevant experience and existing qualifications in industry. The evidence built through the assessment can only be from the date after which you start it!
NET are putting in place the AM2 ED for end point assessment and it looks like a domestic gold card will be forthcoming. I will confirm this with the JIB soon for clarification.
TESP, NET and those working hard to develop these mechanisms to raising standards and opportunities have done a great job here. The program should take around 18 months to complete and will be starting out in industry imminently. For further details please see the TESP website here www.electrical-ewa.org.uk/
NET can be found here www.netservices.org.uk/am2ed/
To contact Craig you can email him directly here electricalnvq4u@gmail.com
Thanks again to Craig for asking to come on and talk about this and sharing his knowledge.

I really enjoyed that. I think an Nvq for domestic electricians is a good idea. Like you said 75% of electricians only work in domestic so it totally makes sense

Great in site to new Qualification. I see Craig’s point on the tray, basket not wildly used in domestic. But there are case where the use can be justified, 😊especially now with Depth of loft insulation and de-rating of cable.

Yes we have used it within domestic on occasion. I guess as Craog said when it's rare it's hard to get evidence on it for the portfolio etc.

Hi Mark good to see you online again and thank you for the video. Who is that guy on the left. I’d like to ask him how do these “Experienced” courses sit with sparks that are in the Maintainers Gold Card club in terms of skill scan and entry….. So if you have a Maintainers ECS card and did the EW course would you have two Gold Cards?

Can I ask, I did a 3 year domestic installer coarse 10 years ago, I was registered with Elecsa as a domestic installer for 4 years. I then went as a sub contractor and let my registration laps. Do I now need to do a domestic NVQ to re register on Napit ?

I think Napit and niceic changed the schemes. The quickest way and cheapest is to take Level 3 Certificate in Installing, Testing and Ensuring Compliance of Electrical Installations in Dwellings. That will be able to get you on the domestic schemes.

Another nail in the coffin of the NICEIC. And to think it used to be a badge of honor, now it just validates cowboys.

It’s sadly an increasingly common problem and a massive issue for the industry, employers need to start to take apprentices on. It’s very frustrating when you have completed the formal qualifications & can’t gain the practical evidence you need to become qualified.

Yes good watch.. and i understand and will hopefully being standard up, love this job and want better for industry But I personally, just think take the piss abit out of some of the guys that have gone done 2357-46 gold cards, Maybe a silver card??? meaning Not fully qualified electrician, but a qualified domestic installers
