Bench dogs have a hinge system that has a companion that off sets the 20mm holes and might be your answer on your track saw problem. I’m using a Chinese nock off that is selling for $120 versus $207 plus shipping to the US. Bench dogs Uk is a great place to shop but shipping is expensive for us in the states. Plus I have their dogs that can sandwich two pieces together and extend my bench out. Have a good day and continue making tbhings

Greetings from the USA. Thanks for the walk thru on your MFT table and new track saw. May I make a suggestion on your dilemma on your saw base running into your right hand fence - use an angle grinder and cut your saw base back to clear the fence... just kidding. Seriously what about flipping the fence from right hand to left hand, would that work? Im in the process of replacing my two Workmates (WM400 & WM225) work surfaces. After seeing your MFT table, I think I might your MFT bench dog set up for my new WM table tops. Have a good day and have a spot of tea with biscuit on me.....

I did consider doing an MFT style top on my workmate, and might still do it one day, my workmate still gets used daily.

The issues with changing the fences are: * scales will not add up * generally you want to keep and measure the left side of the blade. The right side is the off cut. If you change the setup you will be keeping the off cut side (right). Not an problem but not how the saw is designed :)

@@i679n5 Hi, yes agree, but I can't see the utility of measuring the offcut minus the kerf, if you want to measure the offcut (I'd have thought) that what you measure should be what you get - and so setting up from the right hand side of the blade seems the best way - personally I think the main utility of the right hand fence is for support.

Thank you very much Simon. Good indepth look of your system, greatly appreciated. Interesting hearing about the hardboard innovation of yours and that you did not prefer the 3 mm dogs. I am looking at additional rail dogs. I am thinking if I should buy both high and low dogs. Is it annoying only having a too long set? Keep up the good work!

I find I use the long ones more than the short ones , just because they are easier to handle.

@@DIYTinkerer interesting! I assumed a 30 mm pair would be perfect when cutting 16 mm thickness and below. You gave me something to consider.

Nice build, still never used a track saw or MFT and still undecided on weather or not I would get enough use out of a track saw and MFT. I’ve seen other people put a sacrificial strip along the cut line in their bench, did you consider this to save using hardboard?

Hi, I know what you mean about the MFT/Track Saw combination - I've struggled with deciding myself and still not sure if I made the right decision! Some people seem to use them exclusively, others focus on the table saw - in the end I decided to take the plunge, the main push was space in the workshop. Re sacrificial strip - I did consider this and might yet move to this approach in the future, the hardboard had been sitting on my lumber cart for many years (I struggle throwing stuff away!) so I'm glad it finally had a use and was a quick solution. Thanks for your comments.

Looking good. Did you buy or make the MFT top?

Hi, I bought the MFT top from eBay, from a UK supplier, the lower layer I drilled using the top as a template, I decided that a CNC cut to would be more accurate.
