I spend 24 hours hiking miles into the woods with basic gear and with no tent or tarp for shelter. Just simple gear and a 24 hour soldiers military MRE (rations).

I really appreciate the education you do on trees. I live in a desert in the US Southwest and don't have a lot of exposure to most plants that the rest of the world has in abundance. On the few occasions that I travel to more forested areas I feel safer knowing the small but important details I've learned from you.

Great to see a new vlog from you Mike I do love your vlogs and I don't know if this helps but when I was in army cadets some 25 years ago or more we were told military ration packs were designed to make you constipated so that if you were on the run in enemy territory you wouldn't have to slow down to go to the toilet and not going to the toilet meant you weren't leaving traces they could track you by , I don't know if this is true or not but perhaps someone with more army experience could clarify ?

Have you looked into the Micro ecosystems now being placed under powerline paths? Rehabitating. Creating small ditches and reservoirs to collect rainwater. Reintroducing indigenous, low growing vegetation and animals. Adding berries, fruits and nature reserves for the public Seems good and something we can learn new practices with tech and the old ways that still work best.

Why are all ration packs nowadays dependant on water? The excessive weight of water required to cook these meals is another 3/4 kilos for the soldier to carry. They never used to be in the 1980's.

Isn't it dangerous to sleep without a tent in the open like that? Or maybe there is no dangerous wildlife in the region(snakes, wolves)? I am not familiar with UK woods btw

We have one species of venomous snake. The Adder. It's very shy and rare, and I've only seen one twice in 50+ years. No wolves sadly. The last British wolf was killed in 1680. We do have plenty of mosquitoes, midges, and ticks though. I normally take a head net if I'm bivvy bag camping to keep them off me.

I seriously do have to ask what you need a fire for in this season of the year. I mean it is warm enough in the evenings as you don't need anything at all other than the clothes on your back. Back in the day a pack of sarnies would have sufficed and a couple of cans of ale. How did my generation ever get to be so old?
