I just got back from a one nighter with the dog, cooked a chicken on the same setup you did there minus the hanger obvs. Once again, it was you who inspired me 3 years ago to get off my arse and get a bag together. When I needed advice, I dropped you a message and you replied, helping me no end. So thanks again Craig, you sir are a legend! 🙏🤙🤟👍
Toony here from Calgary Canada Shaggers. Great video Craig and absolutely loved when you help teach stuff to others. So so important to look after your mental health and as Craig mentioned switch off and get outdoors and enjoy nature. Anyways any other Canadians watch Craig, especially in Calgary area?? Craig you simply rock it Bro!
Craig bud, I hope you’re well, just checking in and making sure you’re enjoying the trees still, been a month since a vid and just wanted to post my thanks for your videos, made a man in tough times keep going, not sure why but I found some comfort in your videos in a difficult time. Probably for the distraction and interesting topics you covered. Just a big thanks really xxx
I used to do this when a lot younger, I'll soon be 67 but walk for miles almost every day plus do a little weights, press ups and bands for strength. Bought a rooftop tent so hope to be getting out and about a lot more especially Island hopping in Scotland where I'm from. I really like watching your adventures. Thanks for sharing.
Doing great man, thanks for asking! You don't have to answer this comment if you're busy. I do get out in the woods and build fires, though I think here in the states we've got more places to do that legally. I don't get out as often as I like, but I've got some stuff planned soon! Love the hammock camping too! Love your channel because you're so chill, and I say you include some other stuff too, whatever you're up to! Also, hello to all the East Anglian community!
California Redwood Shagger here, I've been doin well, done a bit of bushcrafting, and plan to hang my DD hammock up this weekend now after seeing this video. Thanks for always keeping it real with us, it keeps me coming back for more. Cheers!
Under-blankets are way more comfortable, especially if you sleep on a diagonal. Also when you get in you instantly feel warmth reflecting back to you. It is like night and day.
Really enjoy your channel. All sweet this week, went to archery tonight, in my wheel chair and received my bronze medal from the NZ Field Archery Association Indoor Championships held recently. Along with a second place certificate for the regionals. Absolutely stoked. 😊😊😊
Nice to see extra military Dude still practising his craft same here love getting out of the woods bit of headspace bit of peace and quiet much love brother
Yes the only strange people wandering around in the woods at night are just us two geocachers 😂. From the first time just over 2 years ago we found you on RU-vid you have inspired us both to go out and wild camp in our and your local woodland, so thank you Craig. We are very lucky to have all this forest just on our doorstep mate. Oh yes that was a honey buzzard you heard. All the best mate Dylan and Haley ❤
Really reminded me of your earlier videos bro haha it’s great that you haven’t strayed too far from the beginning! Always real, always true and that’s what people love about ya dude. 🙏🏻❤️
I don't go wild camping, but I get that big exhale at my allotment and when I'm setting up my rods. I can actually feel my body change. Keep up the good work shagger 💙
I'd love to go camping, I'm not very mobile and don't know anyone I could go with - plus I live in London at the moment. As for my week, it's been crap - raining so I can't even enjoy going to the local parks and getting some air. Thanks for these videos, I really do enjoy watching them. (Gu puddings are VERY nice!)
I love to get out and about... mixture of mountains and bushcraft... really helps switch off from work I've recently started a channel ... more for memories for myself and so my kids can maybe watch when I'm dead and buried 😂 Love your videos... keeping it real 💪
I love a northern mam expression. “You’ll spoil yer tea” was one of my mam’s favourites. Another was, every day when we asked her what was for tea, she’d say, “sh*t wi’ sugar on” 😂 Yer can’t beat the north east 😂
My week has been good so far. Totally agree with you when it comes to people not thinking for themselves I've watched this channel for about 18 months / 2 years and will keep doing so. Hope everyone is well 🤙🏼
I somehow managed to miss this video popping up, so just caught up now and you've reminded me that it's been absolutely ages since I last did a hammock camp in the woods! Might have to get on that soon. Thanks for a lovely chilled video 😊
Love a good hammock camp. Here in the Pacific NW we've got huge trees, so you end up packing more weight in hammock strap than you do in the rest of your sleep setup Hammock camping is always the most comfortable camp for me. But, I've noticed I've gotta get up and water the dry trees more in a hammock than in any other sleeping setup. 😅 Looks like a great day in the woods, decompressing from the madness. I'm doing well, and I hope you've been finding a good balance in things yourself. Regarding a seperate channel; From what I've seen, that never works the way folks expect. The second channel never does as well and always needs a lot of work. But, worth keeping in mind, a lot of us (myself included), watch these as a parasocial relationship, IE folks watch these cause they enjoy the personality you present on here, enjoy the hang out, the conversation. The topics are ones that got us here, but its the quality of the vids and the entertainment and experience you provide that keeps us. Just like how we all enjoy hanging out with our friends even when they're just doing boring stuff, it ain't so much about what you're doing its that you're willing to include us with the experience. Just my thoughts.
Iv just got back from my weekend out in the woodland I absolutely love this sort of stuff sleeping under the tarp or even stars . I’m all good thank you and feeling refreshed hope your doing well -wildbrann
great vid, given me some ideas. Nice to see someone straight to the point and it's a shame you didn't put up the tarp as a demo. Great clean up at the end as we all hate tossers that leave the place looking like a Beirut rubbish dump. thx.
Mosquito nets are essential. I also prefer a tarp over the top closeish if it;s going to rain or a bit higher up if it's hot. I prefer to use one of the big wool blankets rather than a foam pad in a hammock. I tend to use a lighter sleeping bag and if it gets cold those are perfect.
Struggling with my mobility at the minute and can't get out to camp, so this video has been that exhale for me after a long week! (Yes, I know its only Wednesday as I'm watching it!) I totally get what you mean about leaving things at the car and using a solo as time to get some headspace! Thank You 😊
Loved this one especially, thanks for giving some extra hammock tips! I would love if you added an image in the corner (pop up like your text) or described what to look for when you talk about tree species, you know so much and I would love to learn more!
Hi Craig cracking hammock and camp mate I don’t get out as much as I’d like too but when I do there is nothing else can touch the peace and quiet of the woods , and yeah defo clears the mind of all the hustle and bustle of life I absolutely love it will have a look at beaver craft looks a real good kit that take care and have a great day all the best 👍👌🔥🔥🚣🏻🚣🏻
Hi Craig. Been watching your Vids for a few years, inspired me to get out and do the same like I used to do when I was younger. Done a few Thetford camps as well as the lakes, Peaks and many other locations. Thanks for entertaining us all when we can’t always get outside! Maybe see you out there sometime.
Been watching your channel for a while now and you've inspired me to get off my arse and active again. I'm retiring this year at 67 year old, I've been buying wild camping kit for months now & plan to start in a small woodland a couple of miles from my home, managed by the local council on behalf of Yorkshire Water. Back in the 80's I spent three years in the territorial army, became a member of the shooting team, won some awards including a bronze & a silver at Bisley TASAM. I loved those times, especially the fieldcraft exersizes. Keep up the good work, including the talks on mens mental health. One man commits suicide every 2 hours, this is a sad result of modern life & something needs to change...
We love watching your videos mate. It motivates us to get out into the woods wild camping. We live in Essex and either go to farm land with permission or get into Thetford Forrest. I love it there it feels like home. Thank you for all the effort that goes into what you do. 👍
Been away a while so not seen any stuff from you for a while. Loving the big hammock, had one for years but not really ever used it. Must give it a try. Keep up the great content dude 👏
Your videos are always banging. Been enjoying for years. I'm no bushcrafter for sure. Car camper here. And no ambition to change. But watching how it's done is most enjoyable. Keep on camping brother!
Love watching your adventures. Weeks been brilliantly. Watching this currently in Florence. By the time you might see this I’ll be in Cork. Understand you totally. If people do this properly and respect the nature no issues. Keep going 😊
Great to have you out and about and follow along. I don't comment a lot but I think I've caught almost all of the bits since I've subscribed.Just always nice to have a relaxing regular dude on an adventure without politics and dumb shit. Cheers!
Good hammock info there, for me it's all about the height and the distance between the trees....there's definetly a sweet spot, had good nights and bad nights, and it's all been to do mainly with the distance between the trees. Haven't posted for a while mate, good to see your channel growing nicely. All the best, Allan P.S. We both live in the same world....the real world!
Mate we live in a country now that’s ashamed of are own heritage, ive always love camping and been out in the woods, 10years in the army then all of my life hunting/shooting/ working forestry and loving and respecting our fantastic country side!!
I'm doing okish, struggled this last year after marriage break up. Took up cold water therapy, so off for my sea swim tomorrow which always makes me feel good. The connection with nature is a healing balm.
I suppose ive had a good week, if I think about how some other peoples might have been. This video is great. I appreciate you talking about mental health and how camping can be a medicine. I live up north in an area i think i could wild camp but dont in fear of, erm i dunno, being caught or looked down upon maybe. Anway youre an inspiration. As for upload frequency, you do you man. Keep up your passion for photography and camping. I share it but live it vicariously through you and others for the time being. I hope to do it for myself sometime and as I said, You're an inspiration for that. Peace and Love Top Shagger. X Edit: Would love to see the cooking process X
Always good to see you out having a cool camp, like the hammock. What's Ben up to, has he got his own channel or just chilling in peace. You two were hilarious together 😊
Doing great Graig, how are you? I've recently been gifted my first daughter so not getting out as much as I used to. Had a local camp in a woodland on Friday in Suffolk and it pissed down all evening, July in the UK 😅 Before that, we had a few camps in Thetford forest over winter, found and stayed at your shelter one evening. We should meet up and go for a camp with a few of my buddies soon, were all like minded people! Good vibes ✌🏼🍄🌳🔥
God bless Craig, we love you just as you are. Always happy to see a video if you have time and are in the mood, but don't put yourself under pressure, it's not the way. However....(sorry😅!) thanks for this one, brilliant ! 👍😅😅
Nice to see you waffling on and chilling out in your choice of habitat mate, the woods are a wonderful place to be, we've been down Cornwall a lot lately, visiting family, her side, and friends and chilling on the beaches eating Pasties. Stay sharp mate 👂🏻👀👂🏻 and all the best to you and yours 👌🏻👍🏻
I am one of those who lives in a city and always wanted to go wild camping, this channel gave me the nudge! I try and do a few a year with my Dad and Brother and am always passing on nuggets of knowledge I’ve learnt from your channel, so cheers Craig! 🏕️🍻
Hi Craig! I'm feeling pretty good, turning 53 in a few days and happy to still be alive. We're car campers and prefer camping without a crowd of people unless its a few very good friends, if we can't make it out for a camp we go to the beach or head to a local national park for a walk, love from the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia 🇦🇺 😊
Great vid, thanks Craig There is nothing better than hanging in a hammock in a wood (even in the rain), although in a wood next to water is even better! I have two DD Hammocks, the Frontline and the Frontline without the bug net. The Frontline with the bug net I obviously use in the summer. The one without the bug net is used in the winter on occasions with the DD underblanket, but I like using the Snugpak Cocoon better. The bug net gets in the way when using the Cocoon, thus the need for two hammocks. The Cocoon is a good option, you can zip it all the way up over a ridge line to enclose yourself, or leave it open just covering the underneath of the hammock. I have also found the snugpak hammock quilt good for the summer (similar to the jungle blanket material, and we know how good they are!), it comes with a footbox and wings to tuck in behind your arse to keep it in place. I also have the Dura 2 (like you) and the centre zip is so much better in a hammock. I haven't seen any RU-vid vids on this, but I have found away to use the original Frontline slings as whoppie slings. The advantage over whoppie slings is that you can still pull the hammock out to its full width to fold it, basically the ends are not permanently gathered up as with whoppies. You need tree hugger straps and two carabiners. Take one end of the original slings and tie a figure of eight knot in it, then at about 100mm from the knot feed the other end into the centre of sling (in the same way as a whoppie sling is designed to grip under tension) bring the end without the knot out from the centre of the sling after about 400mm and tie figure of eight knot to stop it sliding back through. You now have an two adjustable slings to fit into the carabiners with tree huggers. They are also a lot longer than the purchased whoppie slings. Always lock off the free end (longer end) with a hitch just incase. I have used both my hammocks like this for years and it hasn't failed yet. I hope this all makes sense? Ps if you get the XL and wider snake skin you can leave your sleep system in your hammock, basically you can have a air mat and sleeping bag already rolled length ways in the hammock when you get to the camping site just hang and draw back the snake skin and you have a ready made bed (apart from just attaching a Flextail pump to the mat for a minute). Far quicker setup and take down! Just purchased an AMOK, wow! The DDs are more stealthy, but a lay flat hammock is extremely comfortable. Really well made as well! Please keep on providing us vids! Thanks Dan
Buzzing had yours and Lukes very nice knives arrive today. And watching this before I go to bed. Great video. Keep up with whatever content you want to put out, brother ✌🏻💚 Top Shagger 🤙🏼🤟🏻
Yeah I live in Manchester there’s no real woodland to escape to. Even the peaks is more open hills than woodland and since Covid it’s packed. Love the channel bro smashing it.
I tend to use the Jetboil, but just for peace of mind, I'd use a box stove, or the base of the kelly kettle. I think it's horses for courses mate. Got another little tip for you...with the hazel...green branch, use the spine of your knife to scrape into nest type fibres and let it dry in your pocket. Ferro rod spark when its dry (doesnt take long to dry either) and there's your starter flame. Gotta love a hammock...I curl up in mine on my side. Loving the carving kit by the way
Hi Craig, off to Derbyshire (from Norfolk) on my annual pilgrimage, love the peaks. I hang an Overwind 11 foot hammock, like yours it goes really wide, so I lay as diagonal as I can, and this gives a flatter lie, so comfy. Great content as always mate, I've been watching since you first started.
Hey Craig i like doing this in my backyard which keeps me legal, too many karens like to spoil your fun without even understanding the enjoyment you’re having ,this rough camping is great fun!👍👌
