Have had the pleasure of doing this hike many times as my wife and I have a summer home in Harrington Maine about 30 or so miles away. It is truly a spectacular hike. The coast portion of the trail has many ups and downs which in my opinion makes the trail very strenuous. This trail is certainly one of Maine's hidden gems and should be hiked by all that have the opportunity. Mosquitoes can be bad but your fortunate you didn't have any Black-flies. Mosquitoes take blood, Black-flies take meat. Again, thanks for the vid and keep sharing.

Deet, permethrin, and thermacell, a good cocktail to repel mosquitoes when camping. Wear good thick long sleeves and pants. And during a burn ban a Solo twig stove never allows coals to touch the forest floor, provides smoke to help drive off pesky mosquitoes; you can hold it from the bottom, in your hand, with a fire in it. Kathy and I lived and worked in Bangor. We visited Acadia National Park a couple of times, beautiful. Really, do a tick check. We knew a Mainer family in which every member (7 kids) had Lime Disease. Luke, you should plan a winter camping adventure out in Maine. I bet you would love it and it would truly challenge you the way you seem to always want in your winter storm videos. My best winter trip was 16 days at Glacier national park in Montana in early February. We had a guide who taught us a lot then sent us off in groups of 3 then alone each for 3 days to try our new knowledge. I've loved and been confident in the woods since. Anyway, you would love a snow trip in a northern state. Best parts of winter camping no bugs and no nasty dirty feeling well warm weather sticky icky feeling anyway. Can't wait for more videos from you. Thanks for all you do!

Pro-Tip : In Maine we use head bug nets . Also , it might be an extra few ounces in you pack, but when it's bad we use Yard Guard Fogger. It lasts for 4-6 hrs. and you won't have a bug in your sight. ( like any bug spray, Don't spray it on your tent ). Thank you guys for all the great and helpful gear review videos. Would love to hang with you on the trail someday !

You guys have to come to Washington state! Mt. Rainier, the Olympic Peninsula, Eastern Washington... in 3 days you could spend the night in 3 different climates. Arid desert, Alpine, and coastal rain forest. I was so excited when I saw you were coming on your road trip and equally disappointed when you couldn't make it. On our coast you get to see the sun set into the Ocean and our mosquitoes are far more manageable!

Hey brother. It’s conrad from BC Canada. Just finished watching your video. Brought back a lot of memories. Despite me living in BC in the west coast I am originally born and raised in Newfoundland Canada which is just a few 100 km north of Maine. And you are correct...the forest on the north east of the continent is thick like that bro. And the bugs are absolutely crazy. Lol. Glad you got to venture. Happy trails bro.

We were in Acadia national park the first and second week of June 2018. The trip to Maine sucked, but once you are there you do not want to leave. We tented in Bar Harbor. It is the most beautiful place we have ever been. In early June the temps were highs of 60s f. and lows of 40s f. The temps kept the insects away and made for really comfy sleeping.

If you ever come to Canada, we'll be more than glad to greet you up here, especially if you ever decide to visit, "La Belle Province de Québec" ! Overhere, we still have lots of forests left. In fact, Quebec is just as big as the lenght of about any three different average american state sizes combined of your choice and we're also the biggest hydroelectricity exportaters in the world. Despite our political issues and our moral differences, with the rest of Canada, we are by far, the most attractive and yet, the most welcoming province, among all. We look forward to seeing you up here, in the near future, despite the pandemic and its consequences. Strength! and honor to you, young people. Johnny, from Montréal!

Hi Luke and Suzy :) Thanks for the video, that looked like a really cool hike ! -- About mosquitoes, i've had the issue hiking in sweden, 2 weeks and not a day without having them trying to bite me from dusk till dawn.. I couldn't stop even to take a picture without getting bitten so the trip was basically walk/sleep/walk/sleep. And the 40 % deet i had didn't do much to start with and just lost all use with the sweat (because i couldnt stop right :) ) My best help for that was a head bug net, without that i would have gone crazy. Take care guys.
