What do 24 hours with a newborn baby look like? Surprise! There isn't a "right" answer! ✨ I vlogged for 24 hours on the day that Rowan turned one month old and as you'll see there are ups, there are downs, and there is baby vom (for a fun extra, count our combined outfit changes) 😂

Is it odd that I really liked that there is finally a 24hour with a newborn video that actually shows how busy it can be, plus it's backed by stats! You guys are such a great team and I admire single parents even more now. Thank you both for such a fun, entertaining and educational video.

When you have a high-needs baby who you cannot put down and who cries q LOT. It gets hard very fast, especially if you are alone with the baby durung the week (daytime) and have to also clean, cook meals etc. It was so hard I developped depression.

@@surlespasdondine read the comments before starting the video and am flabbergasted that it's possible to only find the newborn stage annoying. It was hard as actual hell, yet my son is the best thing in existence. Totally agree with your comment. It's so hard to even explain how hard a high needs baby is because 'yeah well all babies cry'. The way I describe it now is that I held a contentedly sleeping newborn after my son was only about a year and 2 months old, and it felt unfamiliar and confusing. That's how hard it can be.

@@febberz R I G H T? i hear people talk about the "sleepy newborn stage" and i am just GENUINELY confused. all those people, just be grateful with every fibre of your being that your bub was a smooth operating happy little chappy. if the poor thing has digestive issues then it is 24/7 nonstop chaos. our girl literally did not sleep for 12 hours at a time, we could only manage by taking shifts. now she's 3 months and her digestion's calmed down it's like a different world, it's what we THOUGHT newborn inconveniences would be. it's like u start at difficulty level 1000 and it gradually improves 😅 i went from thinking 50s housewives had it tough, to genuinely being unable to comprehend how anyone could physically do this alone - mums have my utmost deepest respect.

My son, who is turning 13 in a couple of weeks, was a VERY colicky, and very high needs baby. My husband and I still shudder when we think of those days. It was absolute hell. We definitely have PTSD from it. I remember reading The Road in those first few weeks, and the life in the book looked to me much better than the one I was living. My son did not sleep thought the night until he was 4 years old. He is absolutely brilliant now thought!!

As someone who has worked shifts, and who have had trouble sleeping; I get why babies cry when they are tired. Because sleeping is not easy. I have been to the point where it feels like I am about to faint from lack of sleep, and the moment my head hits the pillow I just turn wide awake. Those days all I wanted to do was to cry! So glad that is not my life anymore 😅

Honestly I get this so much. As opposed to other people, I don’t get hangry. But I’m a moody, over emotional toddler if I’m tired/haven’t been sleeping well. I usually pre warn new colleagues that if I’m tired, it’s not personal, my brain doesn’t function on no sleep 😂
@pepsimax8078

This one time is the one that I remember the most. I had worked 3x12 hour night shifts 18.00-06.00. Then I had a fourth one, normal 8 hours, 22.00-06.00. I got home and was in bed at around 08.00 in the morning and slept for about 5 hours. Then when evening comes around I try to go to bed, since I have daytime work the next day. I lie awake all night, unable to sleep. And since I am the type of person who don’t think not sleeping is a reason for me to not go to work, I get out of bed at 5am and go to work. I work from 06.00-14.00. And of course this was the day that a friend of mine was in town. One day only, and they want to meet up. I get about 1 hour of sleep ofter work, before I head out, and I was not back at home again before it was around 21.00-22.00. I was dead tired. So tired it really felt like I would faint. I lie down, and jup I go wide awake, and that is when I really just wanted to cry! I believe I got around 2 hours of sleep that night I think. That next day at work was very rough. I was a dead person on my feet. Still I went to work, since not sleeping is no reason to not go to work (I truly hate myself and my conscience sometimes!). One of my worst weeks at work!

Working during Covid in the NHS has just killed my sleep pattern completely. We need all staff all hands on deck. I was constantly swapping between 12 hour day shifts to night shifts. I literally once finished a run of 5 night shifts on Sunday morning, and was back in Monday morning for the day shift. Even now that it’s settled and I’m now working in a day case unit, my body will still have moments of thinking it’s on a night shift.

"Babies are like ticking time bombs" Lol. So much of this is so relatable. My son is 6 months now so these days are not too far behind me. I still relate to the boy wanting to eat every time it is time for dinner. I've learned to eat the things that require two hands first in case he needs to eat or be picked up. Also great at eating one handed now. Yes, I've definitely used my phone camera to check if the eyes are closed.

I’ve never had a vlog resonate with me more than this one. My daughter turned one month today and this is currently my life to a tee. From the breastfeeding issues until 2 weeks, to the over the shoulder selfie check, to Huckleberry, to the questionable wake-time length - so spot on! For someone who is struggling with sleep and have the availability to give their baby a bottle, I highly suggest doing PROPER shifts some nights. Me and my partner used to take like, 6 hour shifts each. That means, from 6 pm to 12 at night I get to sleep UNINTERRUPTED while dad stays up with the baby (watching TV, eating some snacks, playing Playstation etc) and let's the baby SLEEP ON HIM (baby gets the absolute deepest best sleep this way). Then after 6 hours I wake up and take the baby and then dad gets to sleep for 6 hours until it's 6 in the morning. During my "awake" shift I would sit with the baby and let him sleep on me and sometimes I'd attempt transfers to a cot so I could get short little naps in to be properly ready for the day. This way we ALL got long stretches of sleep EVERY night. And my baby has slept through the nights like a champ. When he was maybe 5 months old we tried to put him in his crib for the night and he slept great. He's 2 now and sleeps in his crib all night and has done for a long long time.

Babies are so much harder -- and so much easier -- when they're little! As they grow the difficulty figuring out what is wrong gets easier, but appeasing them stays just as hard. My kids are 3 & 6, and they are both SO MUCH MORE and also so much less work than this... "He just sits there with his eyes wide open when he's actually really tired" Okay that never changes. My three-year-old will be sobbing and EXHAUSTED but insists that she's not. At 11 pm. But she can throw things across the room and run out of her room when she's pissed.

So happy for you! And that this period is actually over! I've noticed that you use reusable nappies, but previously I've watched some videos that said these nappies don't fit before 3 months. Made me curious which brand are those!

they are bambino mio but we've stopped using them because Rowan would get leakages. Hoping once he gets bigger/leans out we might have better luck with them!

Birth to potty nappies generally fit from about 10lbs. Two partners like muslins and wraps fit well from newborn, and you can also get newborn sized all in ones/ pockets as well :)

I didn't think I would co sleep either but I now live by it as I get to sleep and my baby gets to sleep. My baby is now a toodler and I look forward to napping with him when I can.

I know there are those who are very anti co sleeping. I co slept with all of my kids. I think they make a special cot thing, now that kind of makes an extension on the side of your bed. It allows for co sleeping but also allows for you to scooch baby over into an area of their own. Idk, I think I heard about something like that. Maybe I'll go looking for it and leave a link, if I find it.

It's so interesting to see the cultural differences of raising a newborn. I keep wondering what are the things from my own experience being raised in a migrant/lotsa kids and babies/lotsa women around that will translate or the things I won't be able to really do now that I'm planning on being a solo queer parent and in another country with very little ties to my family 😳

We did some gentle sleeping training and it was the best thing we ever did! Her naps were still short in the beginning but after 10 months they are anywhere from 1.5 hours to 2.5!

I know obviously this was a few months ago... but I just want to stress how important it is that each parent gets at least 4 hours of uninterrupted sleep every day (in a row!) Anything less than that and the effects on your brain are similar to being drunk, which obviously isn't a safe condition to care for a baby. I know it's tough with breastfeeding, but if you need to have Dan give a bottle of pumped milk while you sleep then that's perfectly okay. Keep up with the shifts, but on your "off" shift stay in a separate room with headphones/a sound machine so you can get your 4 hour(+) stretch of sleep!

It it so great that you both baby wearing :-) I just want to share one thing - onzies should not be using when you baby wear - the foot is in flexion and it pulls the fingers so it is damaging the foot and heels and it is really unconfortable for baby. The best for baby wearing is leggins/pants and socks.

Omg, y'all can just take passport photos for babies with your phone? Here in Canada we have to go to a designated photography business even for newborns. My partner worked at a drugstore where they did passport photos, often for young ones and said it was such a challenge, especially with the passport office's very strict rules such as all kids at any age need to be looking at the camera.

This too shall pass. Don't worry as soon as he starts sleep longer though the night... You will be waking up to check on him because he's been asleep too long and you're worried. Don't blink because what feels like 5 minutes later you're taking off the training wheels! Congratulations on your awesome little family! 🤗

Woah, so much activity for one day! My bub is 5 weeks and I thing going v well (and consider myself so fortunate cause she eats and tbh settles and sleeps for the most part like a champ), but I can defs only manage like 1 activity a day 😅 be that an outing, or an admin task, or an appointment. Also, getting her passport pic (at like 2 weeks old) took us like 3 days I swear 😂 You are v impressive, and doing such a good job mumma (and dadda) 😊

Co-sleeping saved me in those first few weeks. Take the time to figure out your set up and get comfortable and eventually you’ll start to relax. I know it’s stressful at first. I was so anxious deciding if we should try or not, but now I’d do it again with my future baby in a heartbeat. My baby girl is now 6m and is in her crib in her nursery from 7-7. It does get easier, I promise ♥️

It's so funny how quickly the newborn days fly by and get "forgotten". My son is 22 months, and I'm currently 5 months pregnant with number 2. I completely forgot how hard those newborn days were - but it's funny. I'm both looking forward to those days again, and not. I'm looking forward to the cute moments and milestones, and having a tiny baby again. But I'm not looking forward to how tiring it is, and the tough moments of trying to figure out what is wrong with the baby and nothing really working. At least the second time around I'll have more hope in the hard times being temporary! Although the toddler tantrums and terrible 2's have been rough, at least I'm (mostly) rested 😅
