24 hrs as a Doctor with a Newborn | Geriatrics Out Patient

Hi everyone! This week has been mainly outpatient work which has been pretty nice. I'm not responsible for calls on this rotation so its nice to be able to just come home, relax, and hang out with the family. A lot of people are worried that when they become a physician - their life would be consumed by medicine. That they would not have time for a family. There are obviously good days and bad days but I just wanted to show you that you can make it work. Hope you all enjoy!

Along with my youtube videos, my friends still post regularly - they give great advice and vivid personal experiences. I think you all would really enjoy it. ellensburgdini......

Hi Jenny, thank you for this interesting look into your life as a physician and a mom! You make it look easy, although I know that it's really not. I'm a 3rd year surgical resident and I'm just barely keeping it all together, and that's without a child! It's inspiring to know that it can be done!
@drjennale
@drjennale 7 лет назад
+whitedot My outpatient schedule is much more lax than a surgery schedule but I still believe it can be done! I'm going to try to do another one of these videos once I start my surgery and inpatient service

Thank you so much for showing that it can be done, but also for keeping it real in your videos. Please do more videos like this (that show a physician's life doesn't have to be consumed by medicine). But of course, also take some time off for yourself and your family by pretending youtube doesn't exist!

I always wanted to be a doctor but I recently thought you can't be a doctor and have a family the same time so I wanted to go for Pa but now looking at u it's shows that everything is possible you just have to sacrifice little things like sleep and etc. Aww your husband takes care of the cutie pie while you're gone. If for instance Stan had work where he couldn't work from home who would take care of the baby?

+Alivia Lamboy on paper you can't past 80 but people do it all the time. The 80 hours also don't account for the time you spend charting.
@drjennale
@drjennale 7 лет назад
+Alivia Lamboy During my surgery rotation I would get to the hospital at 5 AM round in my patients, do surgeries until 5 PM if they're not complicated (longer if they're complicated cases), and some days I would be on trauma call - get home around 3 AM in the morning. Just as a med student I worked 6 days a week. I assume as a resident you can easily work over 100 hrs a week.
