The “he” is the killer, the “she” is the girl, the singer is Simon. He was in the middle ground between the two, she fell but he didn’t hear, he saw a shadow but no one was there, he accidentally left her and when the owl found her he was blamed for the death and the killer left free

I love reading others ways of interpreting this! I interpret the final version as the murderer sing it, stalking and watch Simon and the girl who went off to picnic. This song makes it sound like Simon is being interigated for the murder and telling the officer the story in song

orcinidae Yes, a group of crows is called a murder, which is why it makes more sense for the line to be “murder of murderers” instead of “murders of murderers”, as murders implies multiple groups of crows or something which is why it’s unclear it’s about crows

the murderer (id assume) would be insane, and the reason he murderered her was perhaps because he was scared of her murdering him, this is just a theory though.

@Alese Martin although nothing's been confirmed, there's a popular theory about our protag & a girl falling in love, but the girl is murdered & the protag is blamed for the incident (likely wrongfully so) & is put on trial. he is found guilty, & given electroshock therapy, which slowly drives him into madness. In an attempt to escape the torture, he sails away from everyone & everything, but gets lost at sea & dies. At the end, he reunites with the girl in the afterlife. A user named Scarlet Dreamer did an excellent job of deciphering the album & showing what event happens in each song. here is a comment they made explaining the story: Introduction to the Snow: the scene is set and we are introduced to the story. Isle Unto Thyself: the main character is introduced. Black Rainbows: The main character’s love interest is introduced. White Ball: Our main guy and the love interest meet and hit it off. Murders: Something happens to the love interest, either our main guy or someone else kills the girl and our protagonist is blamed for the crime. Space Station 7: The girl goes to the after life The Mind Electric: Our protagonist is put on trial, to try and get out of it scot free, he claims insanity, but this just makes things worse, because he is treated with electric therapy, making him actually go insane. Labyrinth: Protagonist is stuck thinking about everything he’s done, he feels trapped in and endless labyrinth. Time Machine: Protagonist begins to think about how badly he wants to go back to fix his mistakes. Stranded Lullaby: Somewhere in between Time Machine and now, our protagonist gets on a ship, going who knows where, and is now lost at sea. Dream Sweet in Sea Major: Story comes to an end when our protagonist is killed at sea by sirens, finally able to join his lover in the afterlife.

maybe he thinks he killed her out of his insanity, and he goes back in time to try stopping himself, but then he finds that “no one was there” and that she actually just killed herself, hints the “all for nothing at all”

main reason is probs bc this one uses solely first person pronouns rather than a mix of first and third ones theres an interpretation that i agree with where with the first pre-chorus, its simon trying to push back the urge to kill her, so it cuts abruptly instead of continuing onto the chorus with this demo it feels alot more like thats the intention since hes hes cutting himself off where in the final hes being cut off by the narrator
