Omar really finessed the whole system. He was able to make the music HE wanted to under a major label, have multiple signature instruments, travel the world... Shit I'm jealous lol. Nah but I'm grateful for the music TMV got me through my teens and young adult life

this was a great one. Omar is easily one of the most interesting people on the planet. been through many ups and downs and somehow still remains the ultimate level of humble. i got to meet him once and talk to him for roughly an hour. words dont describe how much that conversation moved me. i guess check that one off the bucket list

11:10:30 Is Omar talking about Juan Alderante? I he says "we had this, like, sociopath in The Mars Vola, who played for a while, you know, in the band, who just really got in the way of the communication-" "The drummer?" "-No, uh, our bass player, towards the end, for a while there." The only TMV bass player I know of is Juan Alderante. That doesn't really sound right. My understanding, though, is that Juan was the bassist for the final lineup. Is there some other bassist that I don't know about? I'm just having such a hard time wrapping my head around this (Although, btw, I wonder why Dean said, "The drummer?" and who he was thinking of when he said that). I also think it's sort of fucked up that Omar skirts responsibility for that conflict here. When Cedric talks about the conflict, he makes it pretty clear, he was upset that Omar was focusing his time and energy on another band. In this interview, it sounds like Omar is blaming 'the bassist' for the conflict. That's doesn't really make sense to me, it sounds like he's blaming someone else for something he's responsible for.

There's interviews about them having issues with Pridgen being too immature for them/still in rockstar partying stage too much or whatever, so that's probably why he thought that.

@wolfumz
@wolfumz 2 года назад
@@wesphillips8058 I've worked as a counselor in drug programs for many years, with probationers, parolees, and CWS referrals. There are a lot of sociopaths and narcissists in that population (ie, the venn diagram where criminal justice involvement and substance abuse overlap). I have some exposure to how people with cluster b personality disorders think and act. That said, I listened to the interview with Juan, and I don't hear anything in his thinking that would indicate narcissistic tendencies. That doesn't mean they absolutely aren't there. They easily could be. But I don't hear it when I listen to Juan talk for a few hours. With Omar, by comparison, I hear a lot of things that make me think Omar is difficult to be around. Omar doesn't take any responsibility for his fight with Cedric. He says it was Juan's fault. He says his only mistake was listening to Juan. That's is a _classic_ narcissictic technique for _sounding_ like you're taking responsibility, when in reality, you are blaming someone else. Throughout this interview, Omar repeatedly returns to this theme about how unnamed 'other people' are hypocritical for calling Omar a genius, only to revoke that appraisal later. He tends to position himself as being superior to others. He sounds like he holds grudges and makes enemies. Obviously, they know more about their own lives than I do. But, just based on what I'm hearing, I'm not really buying what Omar is selling.

I also picked up on this. Juan was in the Volta from 2003 until the end and played consistently in the ORL Group. To say he was playing "towards the end" is a bit of an understatement. Juan also went on to play with Cedric in Zavalas, post Volta. Omar is a musical hero of mine, but to call Juan Alderete (if this is who he's referring to - but who else could it be?) a sociopath and discredit his commitment to Omar's music is not fair. Plus, I don't believe it.
