Testing 95-100gn. bullets in my new (to me) Rem. 700 chambered in a 243 Win. High Velocity and Accuracy are the goal. Should be good bullet choices for Youth Deer hunting.

Looks like a relaxing time. No pressure from others at a public range.. no critters running and hiding.. Happy place.😊

Thanks, Yes out here in mountain country there are less people.

@@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009 Occasionally, coworkers from the city would ask if gun shots sounds scared me. I find that sound relaxing. I do get annoyed a little, because it isn't me making the sounds. 😅

Good Stuff, Strohmeyer! Why mess with perfection? That last group Is all you need for the hunting you do, speed and accuracy wise! You’ll never miss again! 6mm Rules! Keep em coming, Strohmeyer!

Good morning Dave! that 700BDL sure likes reloader 23 & 100gr. bullets!! I understand about old cartridges & new powders. My 308win. I'm using 165gr. TTSX & CFE223 powder, I always used Varget in the past! With Varget I could only get max velocity of 2752fps. but using CFE223 can get up to 2877fps. Can't wait for the next one, those 95gr. & 100gr. should do very well at higher speeds!!!
@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009
We shall see in the next couple of videos if the increase in velocity is there.

I don't have a chrono like that and I had feared that if I did, I might get velocity but at the expense of grouping. But here, I can see, you get a nice group on the last recipe, regardless. So, that is good to know. As far as I know, the only problem with slower speed is more time for influence by the wind. The ammo and size that can shoot 3000 fps is partially to add accuracy by being in the wind less, as well as bullet shape and mass distribution for a higher BC. Although I tend to think like Hornady and assume the axial tilt can have an influence. I also like their process of finding zero angle so that you can adjust, regardless of conditions. Also, that BDL did great. I think all of the groups were sub MOA. The widest was 1.035 inches, which is less than 1.047 inches. That translates to .98 MOA. You could ethically get a deer at 200 yards with that.
@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009
Thanks for your comments here. As a hunter, speed translates to a flatter trajectory, increased energy and extends the maximum point blank range. Even 100 fps slower at the muzzle can make a 4 inch elevation difference at 300 yards.

You should borrow an HS precision stock and bolt your chassis in it along with trying your best shooting loads. You’ll be shocked at how much your groups tighten up. Won’t be as pretty as your laminate stock but it will shoot a lot tighter. I just ended up with some 55 grain NBT seconds.

I had a left hand 700 BDL in the old wood stock. No matter the bullet or the handload that .243 would not group till I got one of the finest HS Precision stocks they ever made. Everything after that went into a ragged hole at 100 yds. 105 Speer and 105 Amax at 500meter ram silhouette range were into inch and a half.

I use IMR7828sc with 95 gr btips in a 26 inch barrel at around 3200fps. I moly coat my bullets though. For pulled bullets they are doing pretty good. Thanks for the video.

Have you ever tried the Scott Satterlee 10 shot load development method? And what are your thoughts on Dan Newberry's OCW and Chis Long's OBT theories?
@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009
Those are all great testing and data gathering methods. My procedure on load development is as you see. Start low and work up cautiously, get data from a chronograph and their groups or lack of grouping shots on target. Compare the relevant data with the bullet makers printed manual, then reverify at the range previous acceptable shots on target for hunting. As a hand loader it seems we always test other component combinations, again just to rule in or rule out specific loads.

Could not get r23 here I use r22 and get 2950 out of 22in barrel similar 3/8 groups or so, I’m intrigued by Federal 80gr load it’s a Speer also but you can’t buy them anywhere I guess they are custom for Federal, at 3330 fps it has more punch than even a 100gr bullet and flatter trajectory very curious why it is so good can’t match the numbers of it with any load I try

That barrel is too short to get full velocity, I NEVER use any barrel shorter than 24 inches on a deer rifle! I can get the 95 grain SST 243 up to 3,200 ft/s with a 26 inch barrel.

My 700BDL. 243 liked H4831 with either 70gr Nosler Ballistic tips or with Hornady 100gr BTSP or the old 100 gr Hornady RN. I was shooting the 100 gr at 3151 safely out of my rig. It hit Saskatchewan whitetail like the hammer of Thor at around 100 or 150 yds. Love your set up and the beautiful piece of equipment. Excellent bench technique also!! I see some totally brutal stuff on utube but you sir are a class act. Good shooting and best wishes for a bountiful hunt.
