Don’t listen to anyone who craps on the savage axis. They are crude budget guns but if You clean up the trigger, SECURELY mount a decent optic (rings that come with them are garbage) most of them shoot surprisingly well. It’s almost embarrassing the axis II I picked up for $250 shoots as well as my semi-custom 280ai that I have over $2k into. Biggest gripe with the axis is the finish sucks and will rust if you look at it wrong. But that’s what spray paint is for.
@@ReloadingQuest not sure about your version or the long action specifically, but my axis II is a short action and uses the same magazine as a short action savage 10/110 with the spring loaded mag catch and metal body. Might be worth looking into. Also not sure what your gripe with the bolt is but there are some bolt lift kits and aftermarket bolt knobs out there for the axis.

those eldx bullets looked impressive. if you make some hand loads, try RL22 and 115gr nosler tipped bullets, piled a doe at a bit over 200 yards with one, half in from a tikka
Yeah I was hoping to get some speeds but it was not triggering. I am looking at getting the new Garmin but it’s 600 bucks so will have to save a little.
