@@Herczilla honestly I think get out could be above halloween, it really depends what your ranking them movies on, get out has a great concept, cinematography and is just amazing, Halloween is just a bunch of teens dying, overdone and repetitive. Halloween is a classic and is great but the story’s been done so many times before.
@@jjjfdd2161 Firstly, I never said anything about the new candy man film, therefore I can’t comment on it because I haven’t watch it. Secondly, that’s fine if you don’t like Get Out , but I personally think it’s a very innovative film.
I actually thought most of their choices were pretty good, but they definitely left off a lot of my favorites. But hey, that's the beauty of lists like these: they're going to be different.
It shows you what people are really afraid of....subtitles. Yes, the original is definitely better. To be fair, they did a better than usual job with the remake

Rosemary’s Baby Also want to mention that Hereditary has officially become my favourite horror film of the 21st Century..
The Exorcist (UNCUT) is one of my favorite movies I love the part where she crabs down the stairs. The Shining is my #1 you should watch the behind the scenes footage.
The Exorcist as a film in general is a cinematic masterpiece. The cinematography, score, lighting, acting, character development, special effects; nothing's ever come remotely close to it. It criminal that it only ever gets mentioned for being "The scariest movie of all time" and nothing else.
I thought Nightmare on Elm Street when it first came out was a very different kind of horror movie. I didn't really like "horror" movies but I thought this was different and more thought provoking than a basic horror type monster movie.
10 - Child's Play 09 - The Omen 08 - Carrie 07 - The Evil Dead 06 - Friday The 13th 05 - Final Destination 04 - Scream 03 - The Thing 02 - Halloween 01 - Nightmare On Elm Street
@@TheMelody911 Agreed, a list of 25 is just not long enough, but the choices were good. There will always be something he missed according to like just about everyone.
@@mikethevike2539 it really depends on your own sense of comedy, but there are definite moments of comedic cinema in the film. 'How about sparklers and bingo!'
@Joshua I agree that there are a few funny lines, but I don't think that it makes it a comedy. It may not be a pure and classic horror movie, but for me it's definitly more Horror than Comedy.
@@mikethevike2539 like I implied, it's all relative. I'd agree it contained some horror but not classical horror, more suspense than anything. That's just my opinion though.
@Joshua Well, since Get Out is ont THIS list, and classified in Horror (along with Mystery and Thriller) on IMDB (and other lists), we can say that for most people, it's at least kinda Horror, but no way it is Comedy.
used to love that movie as a kid it was scary , but tgh i king of scare to watch it as an adult and not beign as good as i remember , like for example the original it , used to love it as a kid but now i think its not good
1: the exorcist 2: the shining 3: the thing 4: incedious 5: rosemarys baby 6: poltergeist 7: jaws or Halloween 8: psycho 9: Blair witch project 10: the silence of the lambs
Also Hereditary should have been on this list, its one of the best horror films of this decade, and is better than over half of the films that are on this list.
The critics were unkind to it, but I found "Jacob's Ladder" really unsettling, and it's one of my favorites in the genre. "The Changeling" w/George C Scott is a classic ghost story with some deliciously creepy moments. Loved "The Babadook" for its allegorical take on depression; Carpenter's "The Thing" for its adherence to the original short story ("Who Goes There?"), and its winking nods to the original 1951 version; & "The Excorsist" just because. I didn't find "Eraserhead" especially frightening - but odd & disturbing, like a nightmare you can't awaken from. Fun fact about "Silence of the Lambs" - two of its actors had both portrayed astronaut Alan Shepard: Scott Glenn (Clarice's boss) in "The Right Stuff", & Ted Levine (the tranny Jamie Gumm) in "From the Earth to the Moon". Now you know. You're welcome.
A movie that really scared us when we saw it at the theater was An American Werewolf in London. We all had to go out to eat before the long, dark drive home. Also saw The Exorcist in a theater but at least we didn't feel like jumping out of a window which was the news surrounding it when it came out in the 70's. Creepy music though.
I thought American Werewolf in London was a bit campy. While I enjoyed the movie (I enjoy campy movies) it would fall in more with Scream or Teen Wolf. Great movies, but not really horror movies. More like Horror/Comedy.
Libertarian Guy When did you see it? I saw it back when it first came out in the theater. I guess it seemed so bad because it seemed more like real life, like it could have really happened I guess. Back when we were young, before video games, internet, and a lot of special effects and CGI.
I am gonna assume you mean the original Old Boy, if you have not already seen it then I suggest you watch I Saw The Devil and a film called The Raid (really good Indonesian film), also The Raid 2
MizTameRumors I love old boy! You should watch the vengeance trilogy aka Sympathy for mr. vengeance and lady vengeance. Although I wasn’t consider them horror.
Yes. I'm sure it wouldn't have scared me as much if I'd seen it as an adult, but it terrified me so much as a kid that Pennywise is still my biggest fear (I'm 31). Obviously, the movie was effective even if only to create caulrophobia in an entire generation of kids.
Here To Chill Music, did you read the book? I watched Tim Curry's It right after reading the book and I thought the movie was laughably un-scary compared to the book. This was, of course, true of many made-for-TV movies at the time. "It" NEEDED to be rated R to do the book justice.
GrnXnham Who wants to watch R rated movies they are Disgusting.I have always regretted watching Wrong Turn 3 with my cousin when I was younger and that’s not the end of it you have The Human Centipede and Cannibal Holocaust.
I personally think the best horror films are ones that could actually happen in real life. Zombies, vampires, etc are just works of fantasy. But movies about serial killers, viruses, etc could actually happen.
Highly overrated movie. Some shocking moments yes but people have called it "the scariest movie since The Exorcist" and it's definitely isn't. The few scenes that are actually creepy are ruined with obnoxiously loud reverb in the background
@Grant Elder Well I've been watching them since I was 5 years old. Being scared watching a movie isn't as simple as shreaking and covering your eyes, it's about the way it makes your senses tingle, your stomach drop, your hair stand up, your breathing changing. I didn't feel any of that in Hereditary. I perfect example is Halloween. The music alone is a simple tune on the piano but effective, not some loud noise constantly blaring in the background. Seeing Michael there one moment and gone the next, thinking he's dead then slowly rise up and stare at the main character without her knowing. Hereditary simply uses shocking scenes that surprise the audience but nothing that really gives an effect
Seriously you made another 'Best' list. Like your list of 'End of the World Films' you need to define such a list my genre. Such as, Thriller, paranormal, psychological, alien etc. You can't even begin to compare The Exorcist to Friday the 13th, both are horror, but different styles.
I thought Jaws would be on the list but maybe it doesn't technically fall under "horror"? It was a unique scary film in its day. It was so frightening it fostered an irrational fear of sharks among an entire generation. The Thing, Alien, The Haunting (1963) and It have always been the scariest movies to me (probably because I saw them when I was a kid.) Overall a great list!
I can’t believe Friday the 13th wasn’t on this list! The original that is! That movie is iconic and the twist at the end makes the introduction to Jason unexpected!
Texas Chainsaw Massacre? Saw? Wicker Man? The Birds? The Ring? Poltergeist? Jaws? Hellraiser? Friday the 13th? And what about the original Let Me In, Let The Right One In?
You must be very young as the Golden Age of horror has already passed with Studios like Hammer films in the UK and all of the horror themes we grew up with such as Dracula and Frankenstein and afters like Peter Cushing. Psycho will forever remain in the top of the genre the original Dawn of the Dead which spawned all of the zombie craze that has been going on for the last two decades. Annie Boris Karloff film considering just that voice scared the crap out of you if you were younger! The list could go on and on and on suffice to say Horrors golden age was long ago. I would never say there are no excellent films today and 10 years ago in the genre that would just be stupid to even go there. There have been many wonderful horror films in the present day but I don't need all of the blood and gore that's not my thing and I don't need to see bouncing titties either which they always toss in! LOL. My cousin was a very famous special effects artist and I don't know if his website is still up but there is a Facebook group where his employees hold a live course in sfx and I know somebody who took it and just made a horror film. My cousin passed away far too young and his name was Stan Winston. He did Alien and the Terminator films the Jurassic Park's many many films for which he won Academy Awards. I am sad to say he's gone.
Today's horror movies suck... Just shows a person trying to kill people, or just confusing.... Old horror movies are fire... Only a few horror movies these days are awesome
I was taking this guy seriously until he said Get Out comes in at no. 2. Possibly one of the most overrated films ever, shouldn't be on the list of 1000 best horrors let alone in second place.
I love the collection you have here. I've seen and agree with many of the films identified. My favorite though is the Exorcist. I think it's eerie and can get in your head. I also think highly of the Shining. Well done.
I love your list my favorite of all time is the Innocence in close 2cnd The Shining there will never be a more believable actor than Jack Nicholson without a doubt my favorite male actor and in third place ties for Halloween and Misery.. Kathy Bates scared the crap out of me.. Great compiling of movies!!!
OMG THE BABADOOK SUCKED! It started out like it was gonna be awesome, then it just turned into a huge annoying suckfest. And I love horror movies, scare me ta death, but I still watch them. But the Babadook was so annoying it sucked big time.

A Quiet Place Get Out The Conjuring 10 Cloverfield Lane Friday the 13th A Nightmare on Elm Street Psycho The Hills Have Eyes Scream Paranormal Activity The Evil Dead Insidious The Silence of the Lambs The Sixth Sense Rec Saw High Tension 28 Days Later Night of the Living Dead Ringu Alien The Thing The Host Ju-On the Grudge Split Don't ask for an order, you won't get one.
@@elizabethshaw734 a lot of people don't consider the Ring to be scary....tho it scared the crap outta me. Yes, the Exorcist is one of the scariest movies ever made!!! Imo.
@@kymrush6722 it is so wonderful to receive a nice comment from somebody who sort of enjoys the same thing I have had the crap ripped out of me for 2 days with comments on RU-vid and I was just about to give up and walk away! Yep like I said Tubular Bells comes on the TV and I have to mute it I still can't handle that I was also Young when The Exorcist came out. I was too young to see it when it first came out I think I was 9. But when I did see it I understood why people ran out of the theater! Part of me likes to be scared and the other part of me wants it to go only so far and The Exorcist just ran the crap out of my boundaries! LMAO!
@@elizabethshaw734 oh sweetie 🙁. I know it ain't easy, tho try not take notice of random trolls! Social media is a breeding ground for these type of people cause it's easy to be nasty to someone they can't see & don't know. There are more kind souls than nasty ones out there🙂. I saw the Exorcist when about 18, cause was not allowed to watch it while at home!! I used to be right into horror movies as a teenager, tho now......can't stomach them. I scare easier as I got older lol. Give me a good sci-fi, or comedy any day😁.
@@kymrush6722 I love sci-fi! And I love psychological thrillers. I know there are kind souls and more of them than trolls. I didn't mean to make that rhyme! She also knew I was going to come home shaking and I did. I think it was so scary because it was the first movie of its kind that showed horrible things before they were more like psycho and The Exorcist was anything but. Mike, when you were talking about "The Witch", pronouncing it "Vitch", and I saw that the title was spelled with a Double-V, it reminded me that the Swedish language has Double-V instead of the letter Double-U ("W'), perhaps it's a Swedish film.
