last year I snagged an x-force 2 cgc 9.8 for 40 bucks and gave it to my brother-in-law for christmas... told him it was an investment. my brother-in-law will be going to his first comic con with me here next weekend now, haha. he loves deadpool, so its not like he's gonna sell it, but i think he sees the potential in stuff he loves anyway being worthwhile in collecting now.
if you have the money buy 50 x-force #2. that's going to be a $250 book before you know it. 2nd Deadpool? who are the 5 most collected characters by those under 40? he in there?
This was fantastic, Dave. To hear these older keys at decent prices shouted out makes the waters of the hobby feel a little more swimmable. The challenge for people like me (i.e. north of the border) is that even though these are affordable, I have to factor in exchange and shipping, and sometimes customs/import fees.
Had all of these at one time but after my big sell off in 2013 I only have re purchased a few of these. Spectacular Spideman #1 x3, First mar-vell x3,Micronauts #1 x3, Spawn #1 x3, New Mutants #1 x 2 cgc,Omegamen #3 X2 +1 cgc, Ironman Submariner #1, Alpha Flight #1 cgc x1, Moon knight #1 x1.
Great list, Dave! I’ve got 3 Micronauts 1s and 3 Moon Knight 1s. I think a good buy for under $100 would be Takes to Astonish 70 - the first Submariner solo stories, along with Hulk! Cheers!
Venom Lethal Protector #1 is a sharp comic. I'd like to grab a gold variant at some point. Unfortunately, I always find another coveted comic that jumps the line (... I'm looking at you "Something is Killing the Children...") I'm wondering if the subsequent issues of Lethal Protector (ie: 4 & 5) will continue to outperform Issue #1, or will they eventually level off? The 1st appearance of the supporting-cast-symbiotes seems to be pretty hot right now... Great list! I'm a sucker for that ASM Lizard cover too. The yellow background is a tad more forgiving than the darker covers in regards to those pesky white eyelash creases...
great video...would like to see some like this..since I'm on a budget of purchasing comics for my collection.. finding some graded key comics under $100.00 would fit my budget.
Imagine this: sending something you value to a stranger (and even multiple strangers since you will be shipping it). Then allowing a stranger's interpretation or "skilled" subjectivity, if you will, decide the fate (score) of this item which will ultimately seal (pun intended) that item's monetary value. Sounds crazy right?! It gets better. After that "experts" opinion, that book will be locked in a case of cheap plastic for all times. You then are told an almost unbelievable tale about how it is far superior and more valuable than its unsealed brethren. Crazy times folks! Especially, when taking into consideration the fact that the valuable you have submitted, which is a BOOK, sole purpose is to be perused and enjoyed.
Nice video! Hypothetical, if you had $50,000 what are you investing in? Comics or something else? If comics, then are you buying 1 mega key in a high grade or several lower grades of that key book?
If I have 50k. First I’d use some for a down payment on a house. If I already had a place and it was for investing. Then I would go for big keys. Like 5-10 big books. Spread it out a bit.
I have a question if you don't mind me and my wife are buying venom cgc 9.8 on ebay for under $30 and $20 we somtime have to go $40 or $50 but we think buying comics for our collection we think cgc has the most value what do you think
It depends. If you want to. Then yes. But as for value. Unless it’s a 9.6/9.8. Not worth sending like a $50. If it’s say worth $99 the. Ya. But depends where the price falls. Rule of thumb to me is it’s gotta be worth $100 min
I bought an INSANELY clean copy of Micronauts 1 newsstand for $15 back in March. Sent her off to CGC. We shall see if I can get that 9.8. Got a Wolverine 1 newsstand for FREE last month, because I was able to purchase it in a lot and sell everything else that came with it to get my money back. Also- I am speculating on Moon Knight 35 (1992)- First appearance of Randall Spector.
To be fair, you should have put in a disclaimer that most of these moderns sell for less than $100 because they’ll never be worth more than $100. You’re better to not buy any of these at those grades and put that money together to buy just one of those at a good grade that’s worth it and will have some type of demand.
Your statement I agree to that. But many people have asked for a cheaper list because most of my lists are books in the $1,000 and above range, so I figured I'd do a list of books that are still good deals under $100 for people that don't have the money or don't want to save. But agreed, you are better off saving and either getting the top grades of these books or different books all together.
@@VinchenzoC My point was that why would you buy any of these books at a very, very low grade at even less than $100. These books will never be worth more than probably what you paid for them today, and chances are, once the market cools down, these ultra low grade books might not even be worth half of what you paid for them. I don’t recall mentioning anything related the fair market value in my statement, it was the fact that buying books, any book, you’re better off to buy a high grade of one, rather than a very low grade of several.
