We finally leave Washington after nearly a month exploring and head south into Oregon but instead of continuing south into California to visit the Redwoods National Park we drastically change plans and head back EAST and into Idaho where we visit Crater's of the Moon National Monument.
Crater's is made of old lava flows that erupted from the Earth's crust AGES ago. Unfortunately I (Dani) somehow DELETED most and the best footage of our time there...So what we include is all we have. This place was REALLY cool and we highly recommend seeing it if you are close and believe our hike of the North Crater trail was the best if you are fit.
*As we often do we just go where the wind takes us and after much deliberation we decided that California was just too big and way too expensive state for us to venture into at this time. We only have 6 weeks left until we have to pick up Tate's Dad in Flagstaff Arizona and we don't rush through things.
We have a modest budget and so far (knock on wood) we haven't had to pay for any place to stay and we didn't like the sound of all the rules and restrictions against free camping that we heard California has so we decided California was to be saved for another day later in life when we have lots of liquid funds and can truly enjoy all that it has to offer. I don't think you could see all of the state in a whole year not to mention just a few weeks.
Thanks for watching!!

Hey, kids! Long time no respond to. Great video, as usual. Pro tip: being that I owned a ranch for a time, never venture onto someone else's property. In my youth, I had a gun pointed at more on more than one occasion for venturing onto someone's property. Not a good thing. Wish you could have made it down the 101 to the 1 through California. I did that route when I was younger, and I LOVED it. Now that I live in Southern California, I really love driving the 1 when we get the chance.

Welcome Back! The private ranch property was to the side with no trespassing signs all over it, I'm pretty sure this land was just like the rest of the camping areas, BLM or other. But definitely not making a habit of trespassing, lol. The trip down 101 would be great but perhaps not in this RV. The trip UP 101 and around on the Olympic Peninsula was really testing the limits of our Class A over long distances. But once day we'll drive it!

So glad you made it back to the southern end of Idaho. We live in American Falls, which is about 40 miles directly southeast of Craters of the Moon. We are smack dab in the middle of potato country. Hope you enjoyed the change of pace the the desert can provide.

I hope your families made out ok in the flooding. We didn't get as much rain in Ponchatoula as they did northwest of here. I saw there was flooding as far west as Crowley. My favorite vacations have been driving out west. We have a series of books we take with us called "Roadside Geology". They describe, state by state and mile marker by mile marker what you are looking at, geologically speaking, as you drive down the road. It makes the landscape even more interesting than it already is.

We were SO fortunate and none of our families were seriously flooded. Only out in west Louisiana in Iota where Tate's Uncle had some flooding in an outdoor kitchen (my the delicious Louisiana foods we have cooked in there!). That book sounds amazing...right up our alley. I'm constantly in awe these days by what we see on the road side.

one of the reason i bought a class b over a class A is a lot more place to park and get away from the crowns ! all the best in your travels ! big fan , maybe back to sea and eat a ton of fish ! ha.

Thank you! While a Class B definitely gives you more options than a Class A like ours, at only 27' we can still park in tons of places and haven't felt hindered really at all in where we could go. I would still get a Class A today if I had to do it over it again and we bought this one for the same price as the Class B's that were on the market. There is SOO much more space and the view with the big windows across the country really can't be beat. I can't WAIT to get back to eating all that fresh fish, wow. It's coming...
