As soon as got to the Swimming Pool we visit a friend boat for dinner. Afterwards we rest up and start tackling certain boat projects that are way more fun to do at anchor like food storage and laundry. Tate and I have our second Thanksgiving in San Blas and celebrate with pressure cooker redbeans.
*This video is in 720p. We're sorry but we can't upload 1080p out where we are anchored.
Footage from November 2016

Never thought about a lifestyle like this but it is so amazing to me. The freedom to go anywhere and do whatever you desire is awesome. I would love to do the same but my physical abilities will not allow me the privilege. So the next best thing to do is tag along with you guys as your invisible stowaway. I'll be quite, you won't have food missing but the beer and scotch may be another story. Thank you so much for sharing your daily adventures. Best of luck as your travels continue. Sail on my friends sail on.

Hey, question (forgive me if this comes across as ridiculous, but ignorance demands remedy which can only be gained by asking): Given that a lot of recipes call for salted water, is it possible to use sea water for some cooking (e.g.: rice, pasta, etc)?

I crew deliveries (sailed several times through the Carb, Bahamas, up the coast of Mexico, US West coast, etc.) and sail my boat all around the Pacific Northwest. I'll be retiring early in less than three years and then likely won't stop cruising until I'm too old to crawl on and off the boat. =) Working about 70+ hours a week right now to max out the pension so I can retire at 45 w/ the gf and our cat!

Eggs in USA are washed In water which makes the shells porous and lets in bacteria. Eggs in UK are cleaned with sandpaper and so keep without being refrigerated.

Hi Guys, I always feel like I learn something watching your videos. I love the egg trick, but this time I learned that McCormick makes a mayo that doesn't need refrigeration. Did not know that. I was hoping you might have a stores list that you would share with us newbies? I have no refrigeration on ODIN and unless my solar with handle it, I do not think I will have any. I'm building and all DC boat. So any tips you can provide as far as non refrigerated stores I would really appreciate. Maybe you have a spreadsheet you work from that you can share. Thanks so much and Happy New Years Guys! God Bless and keep the videos coming they're great! Bill S. s/v ODIN
@Sundownersailsagain
@Sundownersailsagain 7 лет назад
+spinnaker5514 hi! We have an all dc boat too. We have 500 watts of solar and use the Engel fridge, it only uses 50 amps a day. Search our blog for our electrical setup (we replaced it all) and also the engel and provisioning. Sorry I have limited internet for links.
@Sundownersailsagain
@Sundownersailsagain 7 лет назад
+spinnaker5514 As a side note, it isn't mccormick mayo that matters. All mayo can be unrefridgerated however you must avoid contaimination! If something gets in the mayo from say a dirty spoon, it will spoil.

Great idea using home made reef safe soap! I've heard suntan lotion is bad for the reef too so it's good you are working on your "second skin". Where can I find your soap recipe? Thanks for sharing.
@Sundownersailsagain
@Sundownersailsagain 7 лет назад
+kevbjork1 Honestly we only wear sunscreen on our faces. When we swim we typically use rash guards. I think there are a variety of recipes if you google "homemade detergent using Fels Naptha". I basically just melted 1 grated bar of Naptha in maybe 5 cups water, stiring, then add almost 1 cup of each Washing Soda and Borax, stir, then transfer to another container. It cools and makes a soft paste that's easy to dissolve in water.

great job! thank you! I have a question, I have a pressure cooker and burn everything I have tried to cook in it! whats the secret please please share with me.
@Sundownersailsagain
@Sundownersailsagain 7 лет назад
+Jay Caunter hmm, I dont know. I burned bread one time in it but most other stuff is ok. Honestly on the boat, like for the beans, we bring the cooker up to pressure to where the pressure valve is rocking consistently, not too fast. We do that for about 5 minutes then turn it off. Wait 30 minutes and repeat (repressurize it). It's saves us propane like this. We only soaked the beans for about 6 hours. Then when they are done I take cups of the beans and mash them up and add them back, that gives it the creaminess.

I remember looking at Westsail 32s in the 1970s at the boat show in Annapolis. Looked like a good blue water cruiser. I was assigned to Washington D.C. back and used to sail a 28 ft centerboard sloop on the Chesapeake. Miss it. In your opinion, can you solo sail the Westsail? Boat looks ideal for a couple.
@Sundownersailsagain
@Sundownersailsagain 7 лет назад
+tww1491 Hi! Sundowner's previous owners, Roger and Molly Firey started from Norfolk for their 3 circumnavigations. Sundowner was built in North Carolina. Definitely you can solo sail a Westsail 32!. Just have the lines run aft and have a reliable motor.
