Well I mean the anime started following a different system from the game after the bit cause we see ash after kanto able to be a more competent trainer

No.....Ash got his but handed to him throughout all of kanto, the reason Ash won anything after kanto was Ash learning: Orange islands Ash had to learn to think on the fly and improvise Johto, Ash actually learned half the type chart, Ash lost for he was relying on his old reliable tactics too much Hoenn, Ash starts properly training his pokemon and learns how to deal with an ever changing roster to broaden his horizons, Ash lost for his improved field of battle skills left him too arrogant to learn how to improve byond what raw experience can get you Sinnoh, Ash now humble learns to think outside the box and to push his limits and his ideologies by focusing on what he and his pokemon have a natural affinity for, Ash lost for Ash never took a break Unova, Ash took a break and became so rusty he had to learn how to get in his groove, how to train on off days and plain bad luck, Ash lost for Ash focused so hard on relearning basics of battling he didn't improve Kalos, Ash was a try hard, hyper focused on his dreams to an unhealthy extreme, Ash lost for Ash forgot to take in the world around him to draw inspection and connection from Alola, Ash received a proper education, Ash learned to keep a healthy balance of chancing your dreams and connecting with your community, learning many different view points, Journeys, Ash is using all he's learned about battling, Pokemon and the world to build the best team he can and claim the title of number 1 trainer, journeys is still in the early stages and most likely we won't see what ash's new lesson will be untill 2023 when gen 9 gets released

I know right, Ash never placed below the top 16 in 7 Pokémon leagues, went to 2 finals, and won the title in Alola. If this was real life people would be talking so good about Ash, but everyone thinks they can do better
