This was A LOT OF FUN!!! if there was anyone who knew all 25 i'd be impressed should I do another 10? Twitch Stream: / mitchflowerpower Merch: teespring.com/en-GB/flowerste... Twitter: / mitchflowerpwer Instagram: / mitchflowerpower
@@WorldofFood Pretty sure you are. There's a tanooki stone mario glich in that level with the jumping green boots too, but just like here, you can´t go into pipes, and yeah, you're immune to damage there.
The Chain Chomp has always amused me. Like, why 50? Who is ever organically going to wait that long to discover it? Would have been an awesome normal enemy effect if it was say 3 or 5 lunges.
Well that one I definitely found out by mistake being too nervous to cross the chain chomps as a child. It's very much like how to hammer bros from Mario 1 will start to move towards you if you wait long enough.
It's weird, as a kid it felt like the chain chomps were breaking free after like 10 lunges. I must've been really hesitant to pass by those things if I was waiting so long so often!
@@jpetersongaming Chain Chomp is one of the more useful Mario Kart items too, when it's filling the role of "autodrive while spinning out any opponents in the way" item instead of Bullet Bill.
Impressive list! I knew 10 of them, mostly stuff I've seen in speedruns or TASes, or while working on SMB3 videos. A few of things that blew my mind: - The Star kill boom boom I thought was gonna be obvious, but the star + block on the same frame got me! - The Fire Flower + Coin/Star block really blew my mind. Incredible interaction! - Bombs flashing using Mario's color made me really mad. How did I never notice this!!! These "x things you didn't know about this game" lists are always garbage, but I know a great speedrunner like you would actually deliver sick obscure knowledge!
Ooh Bismuth! Never thought I'd see you here! I have a question though, have any speed runners actually used any of these facts? Or are they generally too slow to implement into a run?
In a Chuck 'e Cheese restaurant, climb into the stage when the curtain is closed, and enter the staff room. You will find Chuckie's suit hung up on a rack along with a computer on a small office desk.
One thing Mitch doesn’t know: it’s possible to wear a hat that’s a different color from his backdrop, so half his head doesn’t disappear when he keys out the background.
You can prevent a softlock with the Bowser star kill if you touch him for only one frame. If you kill him again anytime, it will softlock. Same with shells.
Love this. I didn’t know many. I know you’re worried about the longevity of this game, but you are so entertaining, it’s not the game that makes you so. You could entertain in so many ways.
That chain chomp one is so scary. Imagine just leaving the controller for fun, and coming back to seeing a chain chomp that has broken free all of a sudden, without your knowledge of why.
That was actually in the official strategy guide, but instead of 50 times it said "After 260 seconds", which I found to be incorrect. (But that was the only thing here I already knew, so well done!)
Most lists: Did you know that in Mario 3 there's goombas?! It's crazy! This list: Did you know that if you hit block 214 in level 3-4 with exactly 77 seconds on the clock you can turn Mario into a sentient pumpkin? But it softlocks the game :(
At 4:03 in the video, it shows World 5's map, but there seems to be a level that normally isn't there, leading to what looks like a "bypass" to go right to the Cloud part of World 5, skipping the tower (or "twisty castle) all together. I've never seen this before, and I've been playing Mario 3 since it came out. What's this secret, and why wasn't it on this list? Or is this because of a game hack?
I knew about the 1up tune but it only happened one time and when it happened I had to ask myself "Did that really happen or am I hearing things?" Glad to see it really happen after all these 32 years on the 12th
I knew about the 1up overflow sound glitch, the upside down orb, the chain chomp, the Warp Zone being World 9, making Mario clip through the pipe and disappear underwater, the hammer suit slide, the stone hammer suit softlock, and the Goomba Shoe glitch. The rest were all new to me.
Way back when SMB3 came out, the cartridge I had gotten was defective (I think). If I killed Bowser with the hammer bro suit, the game would freeze when I entered the door. None of my friends that had the game had this issue and I’ve never heard of anyone else have the same problem.
@@LuckyBacon Yep that's the game genie bug. I forget what code it was specifically but whatever it was it overwrote the memory for the door open animation and permanently paused the game. If you held UP before it froze it would work.
@John Lee iirc it was those 3-lines "start as (Powerup)" or "Always (Powerup)" would cause this. With how specific this softlock is, it really feels like it might have been an anti-piracy thing to be honest, haha!
OMG can't believe i've been watching for years and still didn't know things. The weird non-endings to some levels and the auto-death hammer bro were the main ones.
I knew about the chain-chomp one! It happened to me once when I was little (like 6?). I was messing around the level taunting the chain-chomp when it broke free and killed me. Scared the heck out of me! I never did figure out what caused it so I've always been very leary of any chain-chomps in SMB3 since because I assumed it was a random thing that could happen at any moment.
I knew about the glitched 1-up sound (thank you Retro Game Mechanics Explained), the chomp, the air walk off the sand, and World 9 (c'mon everyone knows that one). Cool stuff, looking forward to the rest.
I knew about the chain chomp, 1-up SFX glitch, stone hammer mario, world 9, the shell-holding glitch whilst in the boot and overkilling Boom Boom with hammers. I'd seen glitched pipe entries in TASes. Good list - most of these types of lists tend to be filled with well-known factoids so it's nice to learn some new things.
This is such a cool video. Something like this really has the potential to go viral mitch, if you have any more ideas like this it's worthwhile to produce them.
I knew about the door in 6-1, the odd 1-up sound, the glitched boot while holding a spiny, and the hammer suit having a slide animation of you get it while sliding, the warp zone being world 9, the 4th door, and the upside down orbs. I found all those playing this game as a kid, but a lot of the others are really obscure and were cool to see!
Holy crap. I never knew about the Chain Chomp chain being breakable. That's awesome. Only one I knew was the Hammer Suit slide animation. That's about it. Also, how did I not notice the Bob Omb flashing colors? That's cool!
I actually knew about the chain chomp one, and I'm sure a few others did too. They even left this in the Mario Maker games, but I haven't tested with any styles other than SMB3 yet
I played SMB 3 for the first time when I was only 3 years old. Many years later (crying in old), I knew about the Chain-Chomp breaking free, the 6-1 sky door, the pipe clip causing Mario to disappear in 3-9, and the Bob-omb flashing color being Mario/Luigi dependent, but that's about it. Nice job. :3
I only knew about the chain chomp. Didnt know it was 50 times though. I’ve just seen them come loose a few times. I knew about the 1-up sound from watching you. Cool video
The 1up melody I found by chance and I always do it to the surprise of anybody watching me play. It's a great feeling seeing them go "Wow! What the hell was that? How did you do that!?"
I like this video. I like your line delivery, and how you just show everything. No fluff, no nonsense. I knew about the chainchomp, but not the rest of them.
Wow. I did experience the chain chomp breaking off before, but I didn't realize it was a specific lunge count. I also knew about maybe 2 or 3 others of those, such as the door in the air at 6-1 and the fact that "world 9" existed. The one that has me most curious is actually the first one. If hammer bros in World 1 only drop items on a couple overworld spots, do the bros only ever stop on those spots? If you fight one of them on a different spot, is the chest empty at the end of the fight?
The softlock for killing Bowser with a star was the only one completely alien to me. With the others, even if I didn't know that specific glitch or feature, I understood the mechanics. I read about the sliding Hammer Bro suit before, but didn't know how to trick the game into using it. Despite this, I'm also going to take a few steps back and say you got me with about half of them, even if I did understand how the glitch works.
Can someone help me with this? I have a vague memory from when I was a kid of having a hammer in world one and smashing the rock at the second Toadhouse. Is that possible or am I having an odd memory of a strange dream I had once?
10 more? I want infinite more! Sometimes I love learning the little quirks and discoveries people who have put 1000s of hours into games they've played more than the speedruns themselves so I'd love if you imparted your knowledge and experience with us as well as possibly compiling new things discovered about the game, speedrun related or not!
I feel like the chain-chomp thing is incredibly common knowledge. I also knew about the invisible Mario glitch since that was a pretty old school glitch that you'd see mentioned in old Mario fansites. Though I guess there's a lot of information that's more obscure now since people now only go on like 4 or 5 sites for everything. For instance, you'd be surprised on how many people think the match-two minigame is randomized.
I'm sure I noticed a few of these 25+ years ago when I was playing SMB3 on a regular basis, and at least a couple more I've picked up from watching speed runs, but I'd forgotten nearly all of them before watching this video.
I knew about 30 percent of them, some of the others such as 6-5 clip I did not know, also the bomb-ombs using your color, i never noticed that until you just mention it! But overall awesome video, thanks mitch!
I knew that Chomps would break their chains eventually, but I thought it was based on time and not on how many lunges they did. I knew about the modified 1-up jingle from Retro Game Mechanics Explained. I knew about the 6-1 door because I think it was in the Nintendo Power guide...? I think I knew that the Warp Zone was World 9, or at least I probably noticed it at some point. I knew about the Rocky Wrench airwalk - _I learned it from watching you, okay Dad?!!_
The chainchomp breaking free I accidentally found out as a little kid. Was playing the game and got distracted by something and idled by the chainchomp and when I looked back he broke free. Scared the crud out of me.
This game is by far the best game of my time playing this game with my daughter has been extremely fun she's 5 and I was not much older than she was when I played it for the first time . Retro games are awesome and I have a great appreciation to those who still play them and appreciate them
I knew about the Chain Chomp. The extended 1-up jingle, World 9, and the Hammer-slide. I'm impressed how much you had here that I'd never heard of! But you probably know this game better than anyone.
I knew 4. The 1-up special tune happens to me fairly often. The 6-1 sky door was in an old players guide and so was the chain chomp limit. I've also gotten the pipe clip where Mario disappears on occasion. I thought the game soft locked me, but the screen was still scrolling so I imagined he was just invisible and made it to the end.
When I first saw the title, I figured "Oh jeez, another clickbait... how much you wanna bet I know like all of these?", but then I noticed who the uploader was and became waaaaay more intrigued! Glad I did, since I only knew like 3 of these!
I knew a couple of these but most I did not. The chain chomp one and the sky door in 6-1 were the most surprising. I've played this game all throughout my life and never knew that happened
I knew about the Hammer Bro item tiles, Extended 1UP sound, Chain Chomp breaking free, airwalking on Rocky Wrench, Door 4, 3-9 pipe clip (isn’t that a softlock?), Goomba Shoe Spiny glitch, Hammer Suit sliding, and Stone Hammer Mario softlock. 9/25! SMB3 is one of my favorite games. It was one of the first games I ever played 15-20 years ago, and I’ve seen a lot of its secrets, but it’s so awesome that I can still learn new things about it. Thanks for this video, and I hope I get to see a few more secrets in another video.
@PixelGames: 3-9 pipe clip (that is not a soft lock after the timer time out, just wait 3 minutes and 30 seconds it just takes a really long time to come back down, this is because bellow the level is also above the level.) in the All-stars version you can also do the 3-9 pipe clip, but after a time out it will take 4 minutes and 30 seconds I might have a few seconds off since I don't remember the exact time it take in both case, to get back down, and plus if you scroll all the way to the left you will see a diffrence between does different version that you would not be able to know otherwise.
Knew about the chain chop breaking free, airwalking, sliding as Hammer Mario, Grey Hammer Mario, Warp Zone being World 9 and Bob-Ombs flashing color of Mario. Great video
I'm just completely blown away. Super Mario Bros 3 is my favorite video game of all time. I've been playing since 1990. Every few years I learn something I didn't know about it. I'm seriously shocked. Several of these I didn't know. This game continues to amaze me after 33 years.
