Hi fwendz 💛 Feeling a 'lil self conscious of this one for some reason today. I know it's not my strongest video. Feeling a bit burnt out being in between houses/the world/etc. these days haha. But such is life! Doing some much needed recharging in nature this coming weekend/week :) Just wanted to say thank you so flipping much for supporting my work. Even when it's not the best video in the world. It means more to me than you will even know. Thank you for all the supportive comments. They feel like the biggest hug. Especially over the last year. See you in a couple dayz :) Also I pre-emptively know I'm going to get rude comments about the deodorant thing haha - all of those people clearly haven't seen many other videos because we've chatted about it, and had my friends/fam fact check it 😹 I promise I'm not super smelly. If I was, I'd buy some dang deo and also just be proud of my body either way xo. Just wanted to mention it because I stopped buying something society told me I needed, when my specific lifestyle/body didn't and I feel like there are other beauty products out there like that for some people :)

feel the sameee,a dehodorant last me a year because i sometimes forget to use because is not a thing i cant live without,still sweat,still smell but dont understand the need if using that non eco-friendly and non healthy dehodorants that most people use that also smell so much i get sick with.

i think there is nothing wrong if not using something just because is a product society almost forces you to use if not u will stink??? i dont think so madam. In fact people always tell me i smell quite nice and same with dehodorant, i am not much a perfume person so not using theses products doesnt me you smell bad. 🤗

Yes, not smelling is a thing. I wish I had inherited that from my mom! And interestingly, have you ever smelled someone's body odor who is clean but just doesn't wear deodorant? It's not nearly as bad as society has made it out to be. ;)

I gave up painting my nails, because I realized it was a complete waste of my time. There were 1000 other things I would rather be doing with my limited free time. Even a nap would be a better use of those 20 minutes. So I gave away all my nail polish to friends and co-workers. I kept two neutral colours for weddings & events and have never looked back. One of the better decisions I've made.

I don’t have Netflix either and that makes me so happy. If I do want to watch a movie I watch something intentionally that is happy and will manifest a positive outcome. Ugh, the moment I realized that I'm not a nail polish person, and finally allowed myself to believe this truth was so freeing! I've never been good at doing my own nails, the polish doesn't last long and I'm lazy about removing chipped polish - a trifecta of bad. Now I'm committed to finishing the bottles I have and never purchasing new ones again phew!!

I am a "house sock" kinda gal (hello cold-ish winters in Ireland) but I rewear these socks for a few days at a time. You may think it's gross, it's only for a few hours most evenings and I don't sleep in them. But slippers would help your socks last longer! Therefore less washing. Or my favourite house shoe... crocs! Embrace them! haha I got a cheap knock off pair in Sports Direct years ago (they were prob a tenner) and they are still going strong. Plus you can wear them in the garden!

I wear flip flops year round but in the winter (Ohio) I wear socks in the house. I have a fancy name brand pair of house slippers husband bought me for Christmas I never wear them. Lotion and socks and I'm good to go. I like those fuzzy socks you can buy them anywhere for a dollar or two even wear them mismatched I'm not a fashion diva lol. Anna In Ohio

I do near all of these except I still use dryer sheets! And yes the foot/towel shuffle is one of the best ways to clean the floor lmbo. Wish I could get my mom and mother in law on board. Seems like the generation before us, surprisingly HEAVILY dependent on their quick, toss and go products! And my mother and in laws are SUPER wasteful with cleaning products and plastic 🤦🏻‍♀️

Its a generation thing. I'm in my 50's but have turned it around over the past 20 years it's tempting when the newest "thing" comes out.. Laundry pods, those Shakeable things that are like scented fabric softener I watched in horror a middle aged guy at the store yesterday with 2 of the biggest bottles of those things along with fabric sheets in front of me Oh my... he had a wedding ring on some I'm guessing the wife added those to his list. I don't use fabric softener I have 2 bottles that someone gave me that sit there I occassionally in the winter will add a drop to a wet wash cloth and put in the dryer for static cling resistance but it's rare. I have a steam cleaner being delivered tomorrow that uses no detergents of any kind to it just water. I have 4 dogs soon to be 5 this one is multipurpose floors and upholstery with winter coming yup lots of doggy dirt. Anna In Ohio

I’m 25, I’ve never worn deodorant and I don’t smell. I also don’t wear makeup or nail varnish as a natural beauty/minimalism personal preference. 🌞💕

We don't buy nail polish too! But we may have 1 or 2 (vegan / natural polishes) around our home currently from years ago. This is an interesting item to think about since it's a luxury item and it's always been heavily marketing and seems to still be on trend in our world today. ❤️💛💚💙💜

I hear ya about candles. I'm Canadian and when Bath and Body works came to Canada I was all over it, and I would buy all kinds of candles when they had sales. I don't burn candles anymore so I've given that up as well. I love notebooks and I also find it hard to resist the pretty ones. I try to find them.cheaper at discount stores and the dollar store has decent ones too. I really found this video very helpful and inspiring. Hope you are well!

Learning about air pollutants and endocrine disruptors in candles was a very sad day for me (more because I had been breathing it in...) I think beeswax or soy is better all around for anyone looking for alternatives but too pricey for me to justify it

I felt checked out with the nail paint one, because it's one of my tiny joys in life and I have like 20 hahahaha It's cheaper than going to a nail salon, and I only buy more when it's a colour that I don't really have or I already waste it, so I have it in control ~~ Same with the condiments lmao. Anyways, I'm so grateful about watching this, because I haven't watched a video from you for a loooong time (my needs about the zero waste life come and go in weird times) and I enjoyed a lot. Idk if something has change in the last time (I think that yeah, because even if I didn't watch them, I kept reading the titles and all of that) but your words and the topic make me feel warm and motivated, not frustrated or feeling less because of not doing the same as you (yeah, sometimes that can happen). Maybe you can feel this video is not as strongest as others, but it's very human and real and that made it strong, at least for me

Slippers. You can upcycle old clothing and make some. I personally like to crochet and have a pair of crocheted ones. I’ve seen some that use old jeans.

I wore only socks for a while. It's just easier to clean and feels better to have sandles on. Okabashi's sandles have been the most sustainable option I could find in the US. They are made in the US. When they're worn out I'll shipped then back to Oakabash to recycle ans to get 15% off my next pair. I love them.

This coming year I’m going to cut back on poshmark. I’ve been very good about buying second hand, I don’t think I’ve purchased in-store for like a year BUT now I just need to not even be tempted on that. I plan on deleting the app and just using the browser version, bc i think that’ll cut my use of it by 80%. The one clothing item I’ve decided is worth purchasing full price is suit jackets. I’m a lawyer and I recently bought about 3-4 from thrifting, but they were not quality. I went with it because I thought “close/good enough” but I definitely feel like it’s worth investing in myself as a professional.

I was also the type of person I thought would like candles (I guess because I like bubble baths), but I can't stand them! They all smell bad to me and I'm always paranoid about having a lit flame in my house lol. I now have two I keep as decoration but never light them.

Ditched fabric softeners for over a decade. Its basically permanently lacing the fabrics of your clothes with carcinogenic and neurotoxic fragrances and ingredients. Also a waste of money. I just use natural laundry detergent then hang dry and my clothes last longer.

My biggest problem is letting food go bad. The food I had to throw out this year is just sad. If anyone has more tips and tricks how to avoid it. Please let me know. I started freezing food sooner and try to buy less but I don't like going to the stores multiple days a week

I try to make a whole meal plan for the week. I live alone, so most of the time when I open something I can't eat the thing in just one meal, so I try to always think of 2+ meals I can use the ingredient in, that I can cook the next day or the day after. Or I use the whole meal to make something else with it, tomatosauce is a perfect base for pizza or my vegetablesauce thingy for noodles I add oatmilk and curry and eat it with rice. Also with produce I know how long the stuff is fresh in my fridge. Tomatoes for example are fresh a long time, so most of the time the last meal before grocery shopping is spaghetti with tomatosauce.

I got an Imperfect Foods subscription. They create a box with all of the food groups I said I wanted, and I constantly use all I get and don’t have to go to the store because I get exactly what I need in my box. It is customizable as well, so when the algorithm thinks I need something I don’t like, I can remove it, and when I really want something that’s not scheduled to be in the box, I add it. It fixed my food waste issue for the most part.

Personally no. I don't have everything available local, and often (especially to buy things secondhand) find the specific item I'm looking for online --as a eco-minimalist I want minimal items that serve a specific purpose/need for a lifetime and don't have space for items that are "almost-perfect" (if that makes sense). It depends on one's available resources and is a personal choice for sure. Everyone is different in how they approach this movement/lifestyle! But also good to keep in mind that (mostly) everything in stores arrives wrapped in plastic from the manufacturer anyways, but is prepped for the shelves when the pallets are unpacked and wrapping is tossed out before the consumer can see it. I also no longer nitpick to "zero" waste because I know it's a movement asking for systemic change (particularly to the top 100 global plastic contributors), and ones individual moves are part of a larger intersectional movement. So to me, I try my best to minimize while engaging in community activism, continual learning, and advocating for systemic change 💛

I wish I had that genetic thing where you don't need deodorant! I wonder how many people don't realise they have that, and spend a *fortune* over their lives on deodorant that they don't need. (I realise they might choose a nice scent anyway, but they could still skip the actual deodorant part and wear a simple, cheaper, more sustainable scent of some kind).

A note on sage - I'm also guilty of buying sage once upon a time because I was trying to ~*~connect with my spirituality~*~ but I had no clue where the sage I bought came from, had no awareness of the cultural significance of sacred herbs to Indigenous communities, and had no idea that because of our increasingly unstable climate, sacred herbs are becoming harder to find in the wild and are overforaged by ignorant or greedy non-Indigenous people. So if you have a pile of unused dried sage in your cupboard that you bought just because you saw it artfully placed in a metaphysical shop's Instagram post, consider asking a local Indigenous group or service provider such as a women's shelter if they have any need or desire for it.

Sorry about that! My computer crashed and needed to go in for repairs this week so I was editing it on a really old computer that barely works and it was hard to hear. Hopefully they won’t be like that again! That’s why this video was v basic. Was working with what I could hehe. Mine should be repaired tomorrow and we’ll be back in the swing 💛
