I have had that engine in this frame previously and in my other videos. But In this video it's an 172fmm-3a engine a much much better engine in every way. I would recommend paying the extra hundred bucks or so and get a 172fmm instead of the cg250 pushrod engine. Aka (167fml) it's too wide, Doesn't leave room for your foot on the pegs. It has noticably less power than stock XR engine and the paws on the gears are weak. Mine broke 3rd gear and I rode it for a while without 3rd. Also they sent me an engine with a circular transmission. (N-1-2-3-4-5-N-1-2-3-4-5) most of the recently imported cg250 pushrod engines have this and it made it unpleasant to ride. If you can get the 172fmm-3a it will have a ton more power than stock XR. Wheelies in every gear. Higher top speed. Wider range gear box and better build quality.
Either way it will work and you'll have fun, I'd love to give you some tips or answers any questions about the swap. I had to figure much of it out myself
@@GermyBallswell well unfortunately we already ordered the cg250. I couldn't find much info online about which to use and made the best guess I could. We should have the rest of the parts in by Friday. Did you have to make custom mounts for the cg when you were using it?
@@cwalrath90 no you don't need to make any custom mounts. The top three bolt mount that goes to the cylinder head will be narrower and slightly offset compared to the XR engine. So all you need to do is use some stacks of washers to make up the difference. You could cut yourself some bushings if you wanted to do it better
@@GermyBallswell that doesn't sound too bad. I expected some light fabrication. Sounds like oversized pegs might be on the list now. I appreciate the info. Did you run the electric start on yours?
