Looks a nice tent ⛺ Andrew , Good review 👍 looking forward to watching the video, to see how it performs, I have the MSR Elixir 1 which I'm really happy with ,so far no complaints 😀 atb Brian 👍
Great video as always Andrew. The thing that has always put me off about MSR tents is the inner pitch first so i will be really interested to see how you find it in our lovely Scottish autumn weather!! Also, i know Ray Smith had one and struggled with the wind shear on the tent... again be interested to see how you cope with it. Finally, thanks again for all the tent video's, you are fast becoming the go to person for tent reviews!!! Finally, im about to post my ZPacks Duplex on Ebay if you're interested? 😉
It does look like it pitches nice and strongly, but that big upright wall (combined with almost excessive height) has always steered me away from this tent. I bet it's great in the right conditions though, having so much space inside and being so light. Good to see it's better ventilated these days! Excellent review as always, Andrew 👍
It's like my Vango Summit, which I had catching the wind side on once and you can feel the height can be an issue. I also seem to see a lot of MSR tents snapping their poles, maybe because of the height.
@@TheWalkingKev That would follow 👍 The height wouldn't be such an issue if the flysheet reached out further to create a shallower angle, but that of course adds weight and increases the footprint. Another case of horses for courses 👍
I do like msr for quality but the inner pitch as always been the deal breaker for me.also the carbon poles I've heard some reviews about them delaminating the kuiu which I use came with either carbon poles or DAC I held out and got the DAC version which I'm more confident with than the carbon
I own the Access 2 (2021 version) and I’ve had no issues with condensation and its a very comfortable space to be sheltering in the right conditions. In very strong winds the poles flex greatly and result in me not having confidence if I know it’s going to be very windy. The Access 1 will possibly perform better due to its smaller size. As you said - not for true four season conditions but definitely meets most of my needs! I contemplated selling my Access 2 but in fairness it mostly meets my needs. I love the space and weight specs and it’s definitely cosy in the colder months with the less mesh on the inner. Enjoy your new swap tent 😊👍
@@AndrewParkOutdoors I still like my Access 2 and it’s my go to winter tent but I’d like a stronger tent for those occasions I might need it. I loaned my Access 2 to Tom Heaney to do a review of it, see it in action under strong winds here - scary…however, crazy winds are not my kind of trips for the most part! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Dq4C--lrLVo.html
Nice review, my Hubba Hubba flex’s terrible in the wind, and when erecting it, it’s ok till you throw the fly over then the wind kills it, be really interesting to see this tents performance in the Scottish winds, although I think the Cheviot winds are the worst ! And to see if the centre pole holds up ? Cheers Adrian Keep em coming
Andy if you use your foot print you can do an outer first, there are some videos on utube I'll stick with my simond and Rab summit, good to see you on your best wishes 😀.
RIP Crux......how could you???? nooooooo !Hope you don't regret that Andy, it was a real belter. Good luck with new Access. Carbon poles Look a tad frail though,no?
Ah, well, we'll see. An impulse decision to shed a bit of weight and bulk after my wife said she'll not be sharing it, time to downsize, and yes I may live to regret it !
I have bought and sold so many tents over the years, but the only one I’ve never even considered getting rid of is my Hubba HP. Admittedly it’s a little tight in the width compared with modern MSR’s but apart from that I can never find fault with it. I also love the inner pitched first design as it keeps the inner as tight as a drum. I’ve looked at other outer pitched first designs and on some the inner is so baggy making your living space feel even more restrictive.
That's surprising to me. I've only ever had outer-first tents and none of those had a flappy inner. Sounds like you had some bad luck in that regard? There's certainly no need to go with one that doesn't.
You can do an outer pitch first using the loops in the universal footprint! It's pretty simple, loads of tutorials right here on RU-vid, I just had to use it when I got caught up in a big storm at 2400m in the french alps this weekend and it fared brillitantly!
It's nice but shite design for a 4 season tent. It csnt be a 4 season tent when u csnt set it up in rain without it getting soaked wet 🤔 these days some tent companies really don't know how to label their tents. Apart from that, it's incredible for how light it is. But the inner to be up first to the put outer on that's silly. Defeats the purpose haha
