I just wanted to comment as a new subscriber and say you have a great lineup of videos on these Snappers. I just got my first Snapper RER about 2 weeks ago free, prior to that I never drove or operated one so I never thought much about them, but they cut great and take corners well, now I love it. I've owned other Snapper Products like an 02 Snapper 8246 Snowblower which I still own, that thing is great and I've had walk behinds in the past and a dethatcher or two, those were good machine's too. Its an 80's series 6 model 28" deck, that originally had an 8 horsepower but was upgraded at some point to the 12 horsepower 465cc powerbuilt flat head Briggs. It has electric start, I also added recoil start to the engine the other day, because I had the components laying around to do so and didn't have a good battery at the moment so it just made life easier to have the rope start too, as backup. For what I paid, mechanically, its in pretty descent shape. The drive disk component's and yoke all look great. Right now it has one cheap front harbor freight rim and tire on the front, which I will address and put an OEM rim and tire back on the front and my only other real complaint is shifting it right now is a bear to do, especially getting it to go in reverse, I really have to push that shift rod hard to get it into R. I'm guessing I have to move those protective boots out of my way and put some white lithuim grease on that hex shaft so it can move smoother correct? I'm familiar with the setup from snowblowers and usually if its that hard to shift gears the hex shaft needs lubrication. Let me know if you think thats it and anything else I should look out for. Thanks again for the great video's. Keep Snappin lol. Oh here is a look at my machine, I made a breif video, its a mofel 28086s to be exact safety tag says meets 1986 so its probably about an 86 or so, maybe you would know for sure provided the serial number. Thank's. - Doug, NJ ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4in820TaPBQ.html
Fearless Hi it’s Jim Glad to hear you’re a new subscriber I can always use those, your shifter will work a lot better if you loosen the boots and slide them off to the side and clean in grease that hexagon shaft that should alleviate your issues if not let me know and I’ll get back with you. Jim
@@jimjackson9381 But they make them, good to know. That's okay I'll look around for one. My only issue with this mower is it kicks a lot of dust and debris up at me and gets in my face and shoe's, probably because it has a much more powerful 12hp engine vs its original 8hp, so I want to use the mulcher to keep that dust to a minimum. Thanks for the info!
Free shipping for me. If I was going to buy it. I live in Warren Michigan couple hours North I'll be there. If I was going to buy it. Love the videos keep them up.
Yes Jim it would be. Been scouting Facebook market place & Craig’s list. Found 2 nice ones but my brother was not able to take me to look at them. I do not drive so I depend on him. He is very very good to me but with this he wants me to say I am buying it make a deal over phone & then get it. But going to be patient. I have a very thick St Augustine grass the huge zero turn mowers they use today scalp. Ty for your videos
Well thank you for watching them, Hope you’re a subscriber and if you see a machine you like send me some pictures of it and I’ll tell you what I think from the pictures. Jim
Gold mine! .... Jim, your accounting department needs to setup terms as I want soo much of what you have! Want a Thatcher, would love to test the blade. ... Currently trying to part together a bagger. You HAVE a local market.
Tom Meoak Hi Tom Mich. Jim I don’t know where are you live as far as shipping charges would go but I do have a couple Baggers The 28 inch Thatcher is sold, what are you looking for or what do you need. Jim
@@franksteinbach9873 well to try to find a plow blade I’ve came across a couple and they haven’t been made for 40 or 50 years, and snapper also made a snowblower attachment for the front of the machine. If you google it, you will see a couple people have them in action showing how they work, but they haven’t made them for 50 years, they’re extremely hard to come by. I know one man that has two of them and one is brand new in the box but the last I talked to him, he wouldn’t sell it.
I had a mouse problem in my old shed. They built a nest in the air filter housing. The housing has a mouse size hole on the bottom. Got me a cork to plug up the hole when not in service. No more mouse house.
Don Frentzel Good idea Don I have to pass it along all of the air breather housings have that hole in it that’s where it sucks air in and then it passes through the filter into the carburetor that’s an awesome idea putting a cork in there. thanks Jim
@@jimjackson9381 I did it felt like I hit the lottery. When I first saw it I had a hunch it was snapper but I've never seen one in person. So I used Google images to confirm. I gave him 35$!!!
Hey jim theres nothing worse than a stubborn piece of a metal that cant be coaxed out with heat or penetrating lube. Just a tip for something else to try go to your local autoparts store and they sell a can of "freeze off" spray. Might be under a different name but its exactly what the title says. It super freezes your part to demenish the tolerances. It has paid for itself twice for me on my cars. Once to remove a stuck brake caliper, and another to pull a half shaft out. Good luck hope it helps. Btw i really regret just buying a $50 groundskeeper II hand dethatcher. These puppies wouldve looked great on my 28" snapper!

@Jim Jackson or anyone else in the comments.. I just got myself a 10hp snapper power riding mower and I'm looking for a mega lawn bagger for it,Any help locating one would be much appreciated.
Harvey Wallbanger As far as I have heard they are going to continue building the old style snappers as they did in 2019, The reason it is so hard to find a snapper dealer is Briggs & Stratton. bought snapper from I believe it was simplicity and they got their own engineers to redesign the snapper the new snapper came out in 2013 through 2018 in 2013 the dealers were selling the new snappers which I call turtles and they were breaking faster than they could fix them one mechanic at a dealership told me we sell them on Monday and are back on Wednesday to be repaired the dealers got so frustrated they canceled their franchise with Briggs & Stratton. and told them until you come back out with original design we are no longer going to continue selling your snappers well enough dealers followed through with this that Briggs & Stratton. was forced into coming back out with the original machine in 2019 the only problem they Had no idea how fast they would sell and couldn’t build enough, so I am sure they are going to continue building them into 2020. If you want a definite answer you can call Briggs & Stratton in Milwaukee Wisconsin and ask them directly I haven’t done that yet myself. Jim
Harvey Wallbanger I usually try to give out my email address on every video I guess I should really work on that, my email address is jimsfixitshop@gmail.com You can get a hold of me anytime and I usually get back within one or two days, So please let me know what you need. Jim
