I think the Tyranid models mostly look good, but I agree that I wish the weapons looked more organic to the model and less like something they picked up.
it is a more efficient use of Biomass to grow different weapons for the Bio-morphs to use interchangeably rather than Reclaim and grow an entirely new Warrior because a Death-Spitter is an unnecessary amount of Biomass to deal with Guard. Honestly i just love the Models and they are what got me into 40k.
The first time i noticed that they were actually holding swords and weapons, i was terrible dissapointed in some way. I thought it was just connectes to their arms. Obviously the dissapointment was short since the nids are fucking awesome, but it is what it is.
Yes, I feel the same way. From zerg to nids, so-so models, lore.... I also feel like Tyranids is one of the most expensive armies so I find them hard to collect but it makes me so happy to see them in the table. I also painted mine purple and brown, zerg style
I totally agree with your oppinion on the models, I really love the lore of the Tyranids and that's why they are the first army I got, but the models never really clicked for me, and that's why I don't really enjoy painting them. GW should totally redo alot of the models, especially the Tyrannofex, all the Gaunts and Hive Tyrants. The Hive Tyrant and Swarmlord should be bigger and more menacing (Hive Tyrants should also be 1 unit per army, but to compensate, they should be very tough, like in the lore).
year old comment but whatever. in addition to those changes, i think the swarmlord needs to be portrayed as the primarch level being it first seemed to be back when it first THRASHED marneus calgar and his honor guard
The time and effort that goes i to making these is incredible, never been a board game player yet warhammer is soemthing I've always found absolutely sick.
this is just the way i got in to tyranids. My friend who wanted to play 40k with his space marine... "did you know the tyranids is the inspiration for the zerg race" (him knowing full well i'm a zerg main and like painting warhammer) 3 months later i get 1000 point of nids for my birthday :D
Personally I kinda like how their weapons look kinda like organic copies of the other race’s weapons, but as a whole I do wish they had more variety because all the models are roughly the same general shape and you’d think they’d have a little more variety than armored hunchbacks given their evolutionary standards. Lorewise I wish there was something more than “they ate this world and moved on”, while still keeping that mysterious extragalactic entity feel. Gameplay wise I have little experience as my only opponent can’t afford an army and a local store is almost a laughable concept. I’m generally the hit hard and fast while tanking damage kind of player so they seem to fit well. I’ll no doubt move into Genestealer Cult once I reach 2000 pts of nids as the lore and models generally are more attractive to me. Haruspex and the Goliath Truck are my two favorite models I’d say. My biggest disappointment with nids is how the Swarmlord is supposed to be our most elite bioform model to date in the 40k lore yet and in every major battle he shows up in he wounds a chapter master and dies. I feel like he should have learned to take them out indirectly through some trick or kamikaze of another organism by now. There’s plenty of creatures in a nid invasion surely they could overwhelm him easily if they focused on him. Plot armor is only so thick right?
Girls with pink robots:The bois won’t win round 1 Boys with killing slaughtering parasite creatures known as the tyranids: you dare to approach us u girl germs :) *shows grin smiles and smuggled faces* (In an real scale battle)
Back in the day, around 3rd ed I guess, Tyranids were among the more 'inspired' models you could say, with clever shapes and textures and what I felt was a simple and well rounded core list; plenty upgrade options yes but you always knew what your go-to unit was for a particular army concept. And it's something really *different* from the other races which, if we're being honest, are mostly humanoid bodies of some sort. I still somewhat pine for them (sold mine). I'm sad though the models haven't moved on; with what GW can now achieve sculpt and moulding wise Tyranids could look *insane*
that are beautiful, i want a collection of them at least as big i would like the Tyranids to be more Dino-bug-like, incorporating the guns more into their biology, rather than looking like they are holding a gun. i know that the funs, and even the bullets, are their own living beings, but still. i like the entire idea of a cast system of dino-bugs. more like bugs from SST or the Zerg.
Just went Deathwatch but I still love my Nids. Hope that I can get the wife into the game (lured her into AoS) and we can double team our Nid collection!
Would be awesome to see all this against smaller groups of Spacemarines or Imperial guard controlled by different players and see who lasts the longest XD "Its a bug planet!"
Is there an actual list of all the units? Tried to parse some of it via your comments and just counting as it went, but would be amazing to have the list.
How do Tyranids get off of a planet once everything is said and done? I assume some of the lesser organisms are consumed or left behind, but what about Hive Tyrants, Warriors, Exocrines, etc. Are they all just left to die if they can’t fly back to the hive ships by themselves?
They're compelled by the hive mind to throw themselves into digestive pools or are eaten by rippers which then throw themselves in those same pools. Digestive pools are connected to capillary towers which extend upwards towards space and into the bioships in orbit. Not a scrap of of digestible matter is left behind.
For me its all the claws, teeth and tendrils that make a good model. Example of a bad model would be the tyranid warriors. They just look like guys in weird armor. I hate that synapse is such a rare trait that these guys tend to pop up just to supply it. The worst model though: Termigaunts. It hurts an extra amount that they are basically superior hormegaunts. Good model for me? Venomthropes. A mass it tendrils and thorns. Wonderfully alien with big sacks of ...stuff on their backs oozing poisonous clouds. Carnifexes as big as a tank with slashing claws. I like my alien critters ... alien. I think the newer monsterous models have gotten good with that.
I had my fingers crossed our match was in the tagged list of matches lol. But alas it twas not. Soon I will get my rematch... My Avatar will get his revenge!
For me it is wanting to have variety in my battle reports and narrative campaigns. I get bored of playing the same thing, so I need more in the collection to have variety. I need 200 Termagaunts for those few times that I want to play with lots of gaunts, and 100+ Genestealers so I can play all Genestealer lists. You could look at it as a lot of armies combined into one, that just all happen to have interchangeable parts...
@@miniwargaming Nice, also amazing to see how we both approached 40K coming from StarCraft, i too felt weird about their weird xenomorph with guns on steroids design, but they quickly won me over, especially the lore, way better of queen of thots Kerrigan :p
So, times this army by around 1000. Then imagine being a guardsman division being told to defend a planet from this threat. Yeah..... nah thx i'ma pass mr commisarr
