Play On's Nicholas Froese shows off his labour of love. His Tau Army. 8000 points of shooty goodness. He also delves into the Tau lore and covers some past army lists he has used. MB01YHTGFJ9Y7ZC
It's been interesting to watch how the lore has changed. The ethereal went from being mysterious to moustache twirling maybe secretly evil for instance.
If I remember correctly they also added a bit where the T'au Empire exterminated a bunch of gue'vesa in the middle of a battle for having faith in the Greater Good.
@@emarceeqem4715 Thats VERY new lore. It was a group of Tau that had been stranded in the warp for too long and all there humans turned on them (having gone warp crazy). So they take a very hardline against humans specifically. Most of that group have been sent for re-education or censured for such actions.
Very well stated. This is the guy that should be a major ambassador for this game. He's also very well spoken and you're right - his passion really shows. I hope we can see him speak about his other armies
@@nickfroese can I ask what you did to make the fire blade you featured where one could obtain those amazing vespid conversions. I'm just starting out with tau this weeks and I've fallen fast and hard for these guys! I've recently found a file for an orca, so I think that's going to have to get printed!
"There are no true close combat units in the tau range"... Says the guy that killed an Imperial Knight in melee :P But honestly love the video, keep 'em coming!
Me: I wonder how long before he brings up the - Nick 3 minutes in: THESE ARE NOT FISH PEOPLE! Just kidding man, so glad you decided to make this video, always loved watching episodes whenever Nick plays T'au in them. Hearing your struggles and unwarranted hate as a T'au player through the earlier editions is bittersweet and inspiring for T'au players like me. Keep up the good work of bringing others into the fold, For The Greater Good!
@@nickfroese Should also Mention The Tau don't Name their vehicles and battle suits what we call them. The names used in the codex are the standard Gothic names given to them by the Imperium
I appreciate the sheer passion you convey for the tau here. The other local player I currently face off against on a weekly basis claims to build fluff but he is always switching to the next hottest thing so it's nice to see someone have a long running passion for an army.
Nicholas has quickly become my favorite player on this channel, his passion and heart for the hobby, his nonchalant attitude of not caring for winning or losing, just having a good time. He just seems like a great genuine guy. Army looks absolutely fantastic, but one thing has me pulling my hair out. How the hell do you get what looks like LED lights in the guns and eyes for the crisis suits? Looks phenomenal and so realistic. Best channel for tabletop I've seen to date. Thank you for your above and beyond content.
I was just thinking the same about the samurai-style battle standards on the back of the crisis suits - incredible and so soo unique! Definitely copying that for my own fish suits
Me yesterday: I think I'm gonna get a couple Tau start collecting kits and make a small army with a big boi robot and some pathfinders POT today: I think that is an excellent idea.
@@PlayOnTabletop would you say the Cadre Starpulse bundle is a good starting point? Getting very tempted to start collecting 40K again and you have converted me to the greater good!
Even in a grimdark universe, having some good guys brings in fresh air - though they should get pummeled for their naivity towards xenos, the warp, AI revolts, ancient gods and artifacts, constant betrayal, streams of refugees of other empires, not standing their ground at times proving disadvantageous even when it doesn't make sense, etc! Every time they take the enlightened, efficient and logical way, the grimdark universe should show them it just doesn't work like that. They shall prevail thorugh constant development and progress however, always optimistic despite the horrors and misery that surrounds them. That way it fits the setting AND brings in much needed differences to all the other factions in play.
Putting aside them being Xenos, I think Robo Guiliman would've agreed. Be cool to see his reaction to Commander Farsight. Wonder if they'd see eye-to-eye, especially because he knows about Chaos.
That has already happened, multiple times in fact. But the point is... they ADAPT! they get stomped, and then adapt to confront on equal ground with their enemies.
Having just watched this for the millionth time. I love Nick's enthusiasm! I say it every time he's on camera. I'm so glad he got the supremacy armor, and now the manta! I would love to know more about the terrain you have, like the windmill and the turrets. And it looked like you had some lights on one of the planes. All in all, I'd love to see Nick go over an updated army showcase!
@@PlayOnTabletop YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nick was such a great person to have kick off this series of videos too!!! Passionate, excited, knowledgeable and has a fantastic looking army!
I never even touched a figure, completly new into WH40k, started watching matches on channel today but... I love people with passion. You can feel in his voice and look that Nick love telling about his passion and favourite nation in game. As long You commit into thing you wanna achieve people will follow. Well done Nicholas !
I regret selling my Tau. I never played anymore due to life so I sold my collection. Kept my Ork as they held a slightly more special place in my heart though. Edit: I ordered two riptides and a commander... Oops.
This man is obviously very close with his army and is more than happy to teach anybody who’s willing to listen everything about it. We need more videos like this!
I’ve never played but your passion speaks volumes of the game. You are an asset to the channel and have me curious about Tau in new and exciting ways. I’ve watched/read battle reports for 7 years now and this channel does them best.
I've started collecting my own T'au army and I'm really inspired by your playstyle and your models. I've only got about 500 points but I'm expanding quickly and I'm looking forward to seeing everything they have to offer in 9th edition. I love your content, keep up the amazing work!
I have only been playing for a couple of months but I started with the T’au and absolutely share your attitude. I love their philosophy, I love their look, I love the robots. I also feel guilty when I shoot my opponent with 40 shots at once and hit nearly all of them lmao. It’s super encouraging having someone like you as a role model.
As on old time Tau fan, thank you for this fantastic video! I really hope GW will expand upon the Tau's most interesting and unique feature - their cooperation with other Xenos races! 🙏
Made me happy too. Im not even a tau player but im really sick of people blaming them as annoying and boring in play. Really like their style and lore. Also had a lot of fun "stand off" like games against them with my imperial guard.
I would really love to see a lot more cooperation with other races with the tau, it can create for some super interesting stuff in the lore and on the table top.
This is a really great video to see. I am putting together a T'au army precisely because they are this weird mixture of being hopeful in ideals but pragmatic in practice. Hearing someone enthusiastic about the army brought a smile to my face.
Been out of warhammer since 2nd edition ...your videos made me choose tau and I just started my tau army. Love the underdog and love watching your positive outlook when you play your matches sir.
I’m new to the game and just started building but his passion and this video is what made me fully commit to doing a Tau army. Keep up the great work guys! Love the vids.
Watching this while assembling a squad of Breachers for a game next week. Amazing video, such an earnest and infection enthusiasm to the greater good. I hope to see more Farsight games from you in the future, there are only half a dozen battle reports of FSE on all of RU-vid.
Amazing showcase, again kudos to the camera man and the editor. You guys put out some amazing content. Love the army it’s an incredible feeling to lay it all out and see your progress and passion. Thank you for sharing with us.
I love the passion in your eyes & speech, I myself got addicted to the T'au look, lore & models a few months agos and got halfway through my start collecting box so far, I hope I'll reach an army atleast half as imposing as yours one day!
@@nickfroese I just eat the heretics... and the loyalists, and the fish people, and the knife ears, and use the metal ones for toothpicks. Try to stay away from the fungus though - they give me gas.
I have always loved the Tau, from starting Secondary School, i began collecting Dreadnaughts, but then i saw *it*, The Crisis Suit. Utter perfection, they look strong, yet quick, and they *are*, unfortunately, they are still weaker than alot of other machines, Imagine having a Tau Imperial Knight it would be *amazing*, thank you for the video, Nick.
@Nicholas thank you for sharing your beautiful Collection with us. I feel so much positive vibes hearing you talk about your faction, it is inspiring! Keep it up! :)
Such a great showcase. I just love the energy every time Nick talks about his Tau! And many of the points he mentions seem so familiar. I often try and go for the less popular choices and play or make something unique (be it in video games or what have you). And then when changes are made and suddenly you are just a voice in the crowd, that really feels bad... But this has definitely encouraged me to stay with my choice of Tau, keep building up my collection and play them the way I have the most fun with! :D
I don’t understand that decision, the tau tend to cheese it but overwatch is a extremely useful tactic for most armies and is realistic: you don’t just sit there and brace for a charge if you have the option to thin it out a little bit. I hope it’s at least a cheap strategem,
@@matthewmcguire9632 its 1 CP, sounds like they're changing FTGG to runs as sort of a 2 for 1 strat (ie 2 units can shoot rather than 1) i also reckon they'll have to change or scrap the target lock support system as anything other than infantry can move and shoot heavy weapons without penalties.
Nice to see all your army Nic, you have some great stuff. Was it difficult to put the LEDs in the Tiger Shark? You'll need to show us some of your lists. Also it would be great if some of the other play on guys could showcase some of their armies.
Having played Tau in 3rd/4th/5th edition then tanking a long break and coming back in 8th the transition from sometimes memed on, not overly good or popular army to the hated existence we are now took some getting used to. Also, I hate what they have done to our playstyle. We used to have mobility. Between JSJ, Broadsides with A.S.S, and flanking piranhas back when positioning actually mattered the stand and shoot castle style we currently have is lame and boring for both players. I seriously hope they do something to fix it and that they don't break the Y'vahra with the Forgeworld updates because it's one of the only enjoyable lists I have left. Afraid I can't support your recommendation of the Skyray, probably our worst unit, always has been. That said, for any new people, DO buy the Skyray kits. They come with everything you need to make all of the tanks so if you magnetize they are the best value as you basically get the Skyray parts for free. I too have those Puppetswar jump packs, great bits, do recommend. Anyone else prefer the old CIB design?
Thanks Nick for making this video! My friends and I discovered 40k around the time this video came out and you really sold me on the Tau Empire. I haven't regretted collecting them and have had a lot of fun with them all these years
I love the passion with which you speak about your Tau! I am getting interested in 40k and your gameplay and showcase have cemented my love of the Greater Good
Despite all the issues I have with Tau, I still love them. They're my favorite faction, along with the Imperial Guard. I really hope they get fixed in 9th edition because the lack of a psychic phase, terrible melee and wonky rules/stats makes them frustrating to play sometimes. (4+ bs on f'n EVERYTHING. fml)
I have only started collecting this year, and was drawn to the Tau because of how the models look. I love to make small edits and customisations, so seeing this video has given me tons of new ideas! Thank you so much, Nick! For the Greater Good! This channel has become a must-watch for me. Love the enthusiasm that everyone has for their armies. I eagerly await the next 40k in 40m!
You talk about Tau the way I talk about Guard. It’s wonderful hearing somebody talk about something they love-whenever I play against Tau I think about Tau Nick and how excited he is when explosions happen
How to get a warhammer player to talk about something being good: ask them what their favorite faction is How to get a warhammer player to rant: ask them about tau On the bright side i still love tau and they showed me that i want nothing to do with the "community" of warhammer, if you can even call it that.
@@birb125 there's a lot of... angst towards Tau in the hobby. I don't think it's as large as the internet makes it seem. Even though I've personal experienced a few anger filled rants with a type of passion not seen twords other factions.
Hey Play On, we need to talk. I've now watched all 20 Battle reports four times each over the last five months. You have SPOILED me, and now I have a lot of trouble enjoying something like 90% other batreps. As soon as I can I'm going to slap down on that Patreon, but until then, I gotta say- I love Play on Tabletop.
I love what you did with the Vespid, they look amazing!! Also a big fan of your army and your battles in the channel. I also had that first Tau codex and just fell in love with their ideals, they ARE the good guys. For the Greater Good!!!
Still pretty new to the channel, but im so happy that you ensure the Tau gets the spotlight occasionally I feel they don't get enough love. I am considering getting my first army. But im still so new to everything.
Yaaaay! For the Greater Good! Nick I’ve never played 40k, but I’ve always loved the lore and the Tau especially! You’ve been my favorite player to watch on the channel. Keep up the awesome work! You’ve inspired me to finally get some Stealth Battlesuits!
Just love the passion behind this video. The love of Tau really comes through, I can imagine that passion has inspired more than a few new Tau players.
I really liked this video, my favorite part is that you explained how you started this army and why you grew it over time. I hope play on tabletop will be able to ask other players to discuss their history with their favorite armies.
Just coming near the 2k T'Au points. Absolutely love how you always have so much fun playing them, really inspired me to give them a shot. They look the coolest anyway
I don't even play Tau and I really really liked this video! It's great to see the level of excitement and passion that Nick has while discussing this faction. Would love to see you guys do this for more 40K factions. Thanks for the awesome video!
Love this video, I've just been getting back into 40k and was stuck for which army to collect between Tau or Astra Militarum, but seeing the army altogether made my choice easy :) It helps to have someone speaking so enthusiasically speaking about them
Please more of these. If love to see Tak's and Steve's armies! This was a really great showcase! Amazingly painted army with amazing terrain to go with it!
Huge props to you Nick. I liked the Tau when I first started enjoying the hobby earlier this year. After seeing all the negativity towards Tau and Tau players I was a little disheartened, but the passion and energy you have for them really resonated with me. The Necrons may have got me started, and my custom Dynasty will continue to grow, but I’ve just picked up my Start Collecting box for the Tau, working on a Farsight Enclaves army before I then make a Shadowsun Kauyon list. You bring great honour to the Tau’va!
The passion Nick has for his chosen army is awesome. I'm just now getting back into WH40k after over a decade long hiatus from the hobby, and I hope I can become just as passionate about my own collection in the future.
Thanks for making this video Nick. You distilled my thoughts of the race into one awesome video. I got into tau way back in 4th or 5th addition, I was visiting my cousin's in Denmark and they had turned their whole basment into a gamining room with shelf after shelf of fully painted models. I had no clue about the universe but the tau seemed really cool to me because out of all the other armies they felt the most sci-fi futuristic, with big guns, grav tanks and of course battlesuites. Once I got home I bought my first box of fire warriors and built a decent sized army. Sadly I never found anyone to play with. After highschool I saddly sold all my army and stopped playing. Until this year! 10 years later I found a few friends who also are picking up some models and we are gonna play kill team! I just finshed my squad of fire warriors last weekend and cant wait to play them! Thanks for being a inspiration to other players!
I haven't ever even thought about warhammer (the tabletop game) since being like 10 or 11 years old, and I do not often comment on youtube but I do want to say this: I hope that one day I can find something I am as passionate about as this guy. The utter sincerity of how much he's into this is actually pretty persuasive - makes me think that i've been missing out on something.
