Both the BBC and ITV showed all six games. For example here BBC would have shown this on Saturday night, ITV would have shown this again on the Sunday, both also showing Wales v Scotland. The two would have pooled OB equipment and thus ITV in this instance are taking BBC presentation. Chances are it was vice-versa for the other game that day and so on. Happy days when we didn't have to worry about SKY sticking their oar in.
What you have highlighted wasn't uncommon. During the years of shared coverage from the late 60s to early 80s, both ITV and BBC shared each others resources including graphics and other aspects of production.
They were rested as this match was just three days after the European Cup Final and a week after the lads sadly lost the FA Cup final. Truth be told they should have been rested for the whole tournament and saved for the tour of South America which followed this. In that tour England played the big three, Uruguay, Brazil and Argentina, and drew the lot.
@@Nigelpreece And only one Manchester United player in the team in this which was Greenhoff all of the Liverpool and Manchester United players in the England team should have been rested for the Home Internationals being a week after the FA Cup Final and three days after the European Cup Final in Rome and the younger players and those on the verge of a full England cap should have been chosen for the Home Internationals and the South American tour to give these players experience of South American football and climate with a eye towards 1978 and qualification for the 1978 World Cup should have taken priority
Spotted that too. Both kits are certainly from an era that taste & style forgot. The ones they replaced them with in 1980 & España '82 were so much more elegant by contrast. All went a bit awry by the 1990s unfortunately.
Brian Moore. Straight away I hear his voice & it's footy time on good ol' tube telly (I miss 'em, your tube telly became like part of your family. Not with this black emotionless slab. Nothing) That N.I side had good Div1 players. Jennings World's best. ok let's watch..
The NI team reads like hall of fame, McIlroy, Hamilton, Jennings. A pity that politics no doubt prevented them and Republic doing the same as the Rugby team and playing as a unified side. Imagine that in later years, O'Neil and Whiteside alongside Brady and Stapleton, what a team!
@@samson9098 Best played for Northern Ireland and at this stage, he was still playing but was in the USA and had too many demons with booze to be trusted.
