VN24 - Werne / Germany - In the morning the trailer of a loaded pig transport truck in the driveway Hamm Bockum Werne on the A1 towards Cologne started to wobble and fell on its side. Through a large hole in the roof, numerous pigs were able to get outside. First responders, police and fire fighters tried to catch the animals as best they could and keep them in a temporary gate of ladders. The animals were very quiet and frugal, some of them lying on the grass to sleep. However, a veterinarian had to kill several animals on the scene, which had injured themselves too badly. Before the trailer could be raised again, the salvage contractor first had to provisionally straighten and fix the front axle, as a swing arm had broken on the axle suspension. This is currently also assumed to be a possible cause of the accident, as this swing arm obviously broke in the curve to the driveway and caused the trailer to tip over. For the duration of the operation, the Nordlippestraße motorway access to the A1 was closed to the south, which presented some road users with a seemingly unsolvable task.
