Majin Tensei II's cartridge had a special chip inside of it that expanded the capabilities of the SFC's audio, along with a few other games

@@NEETKitten To its defense: fast-forward exists, unless original/clone hardware. That aside, yeah, it's going to be sluggish-- arguably even more than what people hype up World of Sloth to be(it's not that bad, just buy Fuma Bells). This is the only SRPG I've played, so I can't really tell if this game even really offers more than the average SRPG.

I think it is very solid SRPG with decent story, sure, turns last forever due to limited hardware and big maps, but i think gameplay is very good. It feels like Devil Survivor (or Fire Emblem with playable Lords) but with summoning demons, instead of fighting with them in team. The best thing in Majin Tensei II (aside of OST ofcourse) is great customization. You can buy equipment for own demons, your characters can use also magic or guns, and fuse demons to make them stronger. You can also exchange gems in Rags Store into rare items. Some maps are way to big, but complex and fun. Rock, paper, stone mechanic is very complicated compared to FE games, each demon is good / weak against X type of demon. Example: flying demon (Bird) is good vs flying demons and humans, but very weak against Noctifiends, Beast, Holy Beast. I think this game is so underatted, Atlus should consider to revive this subseries and fix their biggest problems - slow enemy turn's (which should be easy to fix on modern platforms), and 50%/50% hit/critical hit ratio, this is most irritiating BS from Fire Emblem games.

I have to agree. This and Megami Tensei II are standout examples of what developers could do with the Famicom hardware, creating some of the best visuals and music the system has to offer. It really shows you can rise above hardware limitations, creating an awe-inspiring experience that will captivate players for years to come.

you should try it out if you have an emulator. Majin Tensei gets a lot of hate but the 2nd game in particular is really good as SEVERELY underrated.

Games like FFVI, Chrono Trigger, Donkey Kong Country have really neat soundtracks for the Super Famicom, but this song legit sounds like something from the fifth generation and beyond. I'm honestly wondering if this game received the Megami Tensei II Treatment.
