So how do you spend your time between projects? For me, its a great time to tune up my equipment, wax the cast iron tables, touch up the chisels, and do some general cleanup. And nothing is more inspiring than a nice clean workshop at the beginning of a new project. So watch the video and you will see some of the things I like to do between big projects.

Hey I tried out the Rockler pitch remover. I couldn't believe how well it worked. The darn blade looked so dull but it was all pitch and within a few minutes the blade was clean and felt so much sharper. Thank you...again!

@MyJosePrado Thanks for the kind words. Your best bet is to check with Sears. Most bags are very specifically built to fit a particular make and model. So you would want to go directly to sears to see if they make a bag that fits your model. Hope that helps.

Depends on the project Russcarljohnson. That summer, I had 4 big custom armoir commissions. Lots of details and very involved. Pilotterror91, compressed air is ok for small areas, but it just doesn't move nearly as much as as a leaf blower. And not to mention, I cant get my air hose all around the shop. That blower does a really great job!

Spagnuolo. I've got 2 cheap box fans with regular return air filters secured to the back that run while I'm in the shop. I wouldn't label them a substitute for a real air filtration system but the amount of fine dust they collect has been really impressive. The shop stays noticeably cleaner and I assume my lungs do too.

cool video. during a single job ill clean my blade several times. i use a spray bottle wit pitch and resin remover and place the blade on a pice of plywood with a wood dowel to hold it. after a few squirts i use a tooth brush to scrub. just interesting how everyone dose things differently.

I live in South Africa. I use the spray - Furniture polish to keep my tools smooth & polished.

Marc, I just found your site and subscribed. My only comment, if it works for you then do it. Leaf blower is a great idea. I liked the bloopers at the end, haven't seen all the videos you have but if you haven't already, make a dedicated blooper cast. Everyone can benefit from laughs, and those who say can't have bigger problems then learning from you. Keep up the great work and never forget, "Wood is GOOD!" ;)

i found that [Orange Clean] found at many dollar stores. i found about i had an end table that my daughter had spilled milk on it and i didn't find it till it had dried. so i sprayed it down with Orange Clean let it set for 5 min. and when i wiped it down not only did it remove the dried milk it removed the finish from the end table right to bare wood. so i would think it will remove the pitch and resin with no problem

If you have a garage with a garage door, you'll want to make sure at least twice a year you lubricate the garage door parts. Wheels, Hinges, Chain, etc... Otherwise you could end up having a hefty repair bill!

@TheDeltaFlight Congrats! I like a good quality 40 tooth combination blade. The two brands I use the most are Tenryu and Forrest. Both make great 40T models.

Of course I would not recommend doing this without a respirator. And I don't consider this just blowing dust around the shop. I am using a high powered fan to direct the dust out of the shop. This works rather well. It gets the dust out of the areas the shop vac just cant reach. When you have 1400 sq. ft. to clean, this is a practical solution.

I have found the best way to get your shop clean like the kitchen ..i bribe my wife ,i make her a new piece of furniture and she gladly keeps the shop as clean as her kitchen

@mattprzybylski yeah I never dilute mine. I just use the same solution over and over. Doesn't really seem so potent that diluting it would be necessary. Either way, I have never had anything bad happen by diluting.

Instead of wood paste wax, you should give a high quality carnuba based wax a try! I use meguiars "hi tech yellow wax". It has a VERY high carnuba concentration and dries harder then concrete. Good stuff for smooth surfaces!

wd-40 is what I use for my blade and I use a chisle and scrape off the gunk and a paper towle.

Is spraying the sharpening stone with water enough because some people say you need to use oil when sharpening chisels?

Cool informative video. Probably not a good practice to plop carbide edged cutters/blades down on cast iron tool tops. Carbide is very hard and holds a keen edge but is very brittle. JMHO. Cheers!

you could also feed your scraps to fungus. You could probably grow oyster or shiitake, or just toss them outside and let nature have it back. Glad to hear you use them. Waste is only if you put it in plastic and send it to a landfill.

Mark, I recently purchased the pitch and resin remover from Rockler and even though the container to pour into is different now it seems the same. On the bottle of the liquid cleaner, however it says to mix it with 3 parts water 1 part solution. Do you not need to do that? I imagine it'll clean better in its undiluted state as you used it apparently but just making sure before I try it. Thanks.

Hey Marc, just got my 10" table saw today. I was wonder what a good blade tooth per inch is for rips and crosscuts. Also, do you recommend certain or have a favorite blades?

I have a dam nice full woodworking shop. I have kept it clean, and all the machines perfect, with no work at all for the last 10 years. My secret is ... ... I never use it anymore. I just go down there once in awhile to look at all the stuff, and wonder what happened to my life.

hey, did you even watch/listen to his video? "I opened the front and rear doors, PUT ON A RESPIRATOR, and blew the dust OUT of the shop" The dust would have settled out in his back yard or driveway....where other dust naturally is. You know what,keep your comments to yourself. This, Mark dude is ALL about safe practice-(sometimes too much for my liking) So why don't you be sensible and shut up. Wow. I just realized how old this thread is....never the less
