Bowman here - thought I'd speak up considering the bizarre amount of misconceptions about this track. I made this song because I like it. The arrangement isn't a joke, and I wasn't drunk when I sang the vocals. If it's not your cup of tea, fine, but let there be no illusions about my intentions - this song is me sincerely giving my 100% to make the "Midnight Crew" cover I've always wanted to hear. And I succeeded.
They're the opposites of the Problem Sleuth team. The Problem Sleuths are all raging alcoholics. Therefore The Midnight Crew has never had a single drop of alcohol.
But this guys voice. I can't handle it. It's terrible. **adds to favorites** **downloads song** It shouldn't exist. **leaves like** **listens to on a daily basis**
stormminstrel It's because of a trait to some successful singers. His voice isn't necessarily good - when it comes to singing voices - but he's using it in a way that works well with the song itself.
I hate this. *Listens to it five more times. Yep, I hate it so much. *Buys the album. Screw this song. *I have become one with the song now. It's shit.
I’m pretty sure I’m wholly unfamiliar with the genre…and while I’m not entirely certain how feel about this cut, I can tell there’s something to it. I can’t put my finger on it, but I can say there is definitely a “there,” there. I’m getting glimpses of a couple of techniques that were,at different times, popular, or at least common enough to be noticeable as distinct…but I lack the musical education to talk about them meaningfully, I think. Educate me a bit! ^_^ What would you recommend as a good way to dive into post punk?
wow it does a lot of homestuck songs throughout the soundtracks have what they have in the beginning and I always think of the mother series and get this 0-o face
I watched Bowman, the guy and band who wrote this song, sing this at a convention, and slow danced with a Gamzee to this while cosplaying Tavros, and it was the most fun I've had in ages. This song still gives me chills with it's slow beat and weird but awesome groove. This is for sure one of my favorites.
Literally almost 10 years later, and I'm finding out people don't like this song. I'm feeling like I should start throwing hands with these tasteless fools.
i posted a link to this song in my groupchat and spent the next 30 minutes fighting tooth and nail defending it. 10/10 would do that again. This song is my bread and fucking butter.
I'm a member of the Midnight Crew as sung by John Egbert. I imagine him and Jade doing Karaoke on their 3 year trip and John busting out this song to dominate the rest of their karaoke session.
i love weird music. like, music that isnt afraid to sound unique and silly and awesome. i love the vocal style. im inspired now :) so many years later!
oh my god. It sounds woderful. I just imagine a bar in the 'old west' and spades slick just singing there while girls with flashy fancy dresses dance behind him. someone make that plz
Can someone please upload a version of this at 1.25 or 1.5 speed so it can be downloaded? I don't think you can download this one with an augmented speed. Thanks in advanced if anyone does. c:
So glad I'm not the only one who heard that! It's really hard to tell in the original version; perhaps it's just how Morton sang the song with his accent?
Homestuck was one of my longest Fandoms from 2011 to 2016 and the aftermath and while I'm no longer stuck the music will always be a bop that I cherish from the bottom of my heart
Whenever I hear this... I imagine a Playboy bunny dancing, hands over head, in slow motion, on a table, with Slick sitting on the table polishing his knives.... And Karkat and John standing in the corner going WTF?...
Post-punk is a style developed in the late 70s/early 80s that took the speed and energy with punk but mixed it up with experimental and electronic elements. It's generally known for sharp, tribalesque drumming; whining guitars; dub-style bass and surreal lyrics (see: wire, gang of four, joy division). This sounds more like early experimental electronic pop to me.
Of course it sounds like he is drunk, its a POSTPUNK version of motherfucking MIDNIGHT CREW, they literally have a soundtrack called MOONSHINE. And also this is an amazing song and i love it
I'm not gonna lie, i like the original better, but after seein you guys say that he sounds drunk, I'm gonna picture a drunk, stabby spades slick singin this every time i hear it, and this song just got infinitely better for it. XD
