I'm 70 years old got myself a little Jon boat I want to start doing some crappie fishing I think your video is really going to help me I appreciate what you have done
Now this is great content. Thank you sir for your education. I am learning without livescope until I can afford livescope. But people have been very successful for decades without livescope.
Glad I ran across your channel. Love your presentation method - just plain and simple! And I like your approach to the way you fish as well. Needless to say, I am now a subscriber to your channel. Be safe out there and tight lines!
Couldn’t agree more. So tired of guys that are jacked up on energy drinks and begging for likes and subscribers. This is the real deal for sure. Richard Gene is a legend! Tight lines!
I'm a kayak fisherman who is just learning to crappie fish.I will be back to your vids as they seem to be good for a rookie like me. Thanks for taking the time to help us beginners.............
Good video. I did not hear you say it, but it shows you are on Watts Bar. I love that lake. Will be there April 26-29th for the ACC Big Crappie Tournament. Watts Bar is so different than our Texas lakes, so it is a fun time. Good video.
@@BluecollarCrappieyou need to come and fish the ACC BIG Fish Tournament in April. Contact Crappie Cove and sign up. It's a blast and good payouts for the biggest fish ever hour and big fish for the day. $1,500.00 per hour and $5,000.00 big fish for the day.
You “hooked” me man! I want to get better at finding and then catching crappie, and I definitely learned a few things from you. Appreciate you sharing the knowledge brother! (Subbed and liked as well!)
Thanks for your video. Absolutely loved it. I just purchased my first bass boat with helix 9 at the console and helix 7 at the bow. Having a hard time understanding the all of it. Thanks for the information on 2D Sonar and how it relates to finding fish. I will get there.
Thanks for the content. This was really helpful. I've been fishing for over a year now and every now and then ill get on the boat with my cousin but he rarely reads his fish finder so im doing research on how to read and fish with it. 👊🏾👊🏾👏🏾👏🏾🎣🎣🐟
I'm a kayak fisherman currently without electronics but this certainly gave me some direction on which to improve Crappie fishing for me. Thank you for sharing this with us!
Just found your channel and this was the first video I watched. I really appreciate your perspective. I bought my "dream boat" a year ago. It came with 2 Helix 7s. The console has mega side and down imaging. I'm really pouring myself into trying to learn and perfect what I have. At this point I don't know if I'll ever go the live scope route or not. Mainly because I don't want all that stuff on my bow. If I can figure out how to locate and catch crappie using what I have and learning from people like you, then I'll be satisfied. I just sub'd. Take care!
Subbed, glad to see new content without livescope for the new guys. I'm going out today with my Vexilar and Garmin. It's been warm here so I'm going after shallow crappie in my kayak. The flasher let's me know the mood of the fish in real time in shallow water where the Garmin can't. WIsh you the best with your channel.
This up coming fishing season I’m gonna fish on a kayak. And use a fish finder for the first time. Looking at a RU-vid talking about fish finders. And he said the Lowrance hook reveal was the best for beginners. So I’m gonna buy one. And go out and get used to it too.
Any decent unit will get the job done. Color 2d and as big as you can afford for being able to see better. You can do it with the 5 inch units it just takes some getting used to. Good luck man I hope you get your limit! 🎣
Got me a Garmin Strike plus, I was new with the Kayak, Crappie AND, using electronics in a new state with warm lakes, LOL. So a lot of new situations, I'm still learning and don't feel like I have it down as I should. I mean sure I can find some structure BUT I was hoping to be able to see crappies around the structure and as far as I know...I haven't been able to or at least recognize if it is crappies I'm looking at. I've tried tinkering with the settings adjusting the gains, top water noise, speed etc, seems a little complicated but hey, I'm still trying. good Luck Eddie.
Another great video! I really appreciate your willingness to help others. Most of us started fishing minnows and still do. In W TN we fished the buck brush or button ball willows with a cane pole. My dad started tying ferrules on them made of paper clips. Worked great and still use them occasionally when wading. Something I have found really helpful is the Lake Master Maps card for your side scan. There is a program called Contour Elite that takes the Lake Master and lets you put it on you computer and you can explore drops, creeks bays etc. from home. You can make way points and print it and that portion of the map with coordinates or take the SD card and put it in your sonar. Sorry for the length, will share more such as building structure later on. PB
I only have a flasher on the front if my old 89 Ranger and I catch more than enough to eat and only crappy fish in the winter mostly. There's no replacement for spending time enjoying hunting those places that hold fish. I enjoyed your video because I started out in a jonboat and an old portable flasher.
My baby brother is a minner man too and he will load the wagon full of Okeechobee specks. I havnt used a minnow in 10 years I betcha, I’m exclusively a jig man. I will jig a grass shrimp in the summer months but it’s rare. Just gotta get something in front of one
Enjoyed your video! I fish the Chickamauga Lake area. Trying to learn more about crappie fishing. Traditionally I bass fish but looking to try the crappie bite this Spring.
You’ll enjoy it bud. Especially fall to spring. That’s when I catch most of my crappie. I’m more of a 10-20 foot deep kinda guy myself but I’m learning everyday as well. Thanks for watching!
I just subbed. It must be a Watts Bar thing. This is how we fish on Watts Bar for crappie. Never met ya, but it is like we learned the same things the same way. But, I wish you hadn't showed that map, cause that was one of my favorite spots. lol. Big cats up in there as well. Like how you kept it simple, and cheap, must be a Watts bar thing. Greetings from Crossville.
I understand it’s hard to shoot video without showing anything but crappie move so much they don’t stay put long. The brush I was fishing in the video has been washed away already. Thanks for checking out the channel!
@@BluecollarCrappie The brush has indeed moved, was there Tuesday. High current in that turn against the bank. Keep the content coming, and tight lines!
Hi, I just found your channel. You're on the right side of the dam. Chickamauga isn't worth a crap with all this pressure. You'll catch 100 to get 15 keepers, if you catch 15 keepers. It's about over, very few boats are putting in at Dayton right now. That's the first time I can say that since 2015. The attention is turning to Watts Bar since the big tournaments have been stopped in Dayton. You guys need to band together and stop that before you end up like us. Elect politicians that will reject these tournaments. Ask them where they stand before voting. We finally did elect a mayor that is for the people but we now have to recover. I don't think it will ever be the same. I live close to this damn Blue Water Campground and they have a map where you stick pins so all the other damn yankees will know where to go. I'd be glad to tell em where to go! It'll be a little dry for fishing...
LO)L, "Don't take your fishing rod's", SACRILEGE!!! but I got your point and thanks for sharing a great video. While I'm being snarky, NOTHING is cheap now, economical but not cheap. Keep 'em coming, I really enjoy your content.
Really good vid. I would say to get better with artificials, go with a graphite rod. I love the Okuma Celilo 6' ULfor about $40. Any small spinning real but get 8# Power Pro braid. I put a 4' of 6# mono leader on it. Crappie hit a jig Sooo light sometimes, there is no way you will detect it on that long rod or a fiberglass rod and mono, especially that deep. I use 1" or 2 1/2" Gulp minnows that work great and easier to use and get than minnows. I use a dropshop ith a #6 hook and 1/8 to 1/4 oz weight depending on depth and wind. Hope this helps
good video except for the minnow part. Jigs would do same thing if not better. but thorough explanation of 2d as vast majority of us don't have LS nor ever will. TY
Don't apologize. One bad day of fishing is better than 10 good days at work. I been fishing all my life. Every time you go fishing, you add information to your data bank on how to catch fish.
I was referring to the design of the hook. It’s called a cam hook and it has a special bend in it that causes the hook to turn in the fishes mouth for better top lip hookups.
I try marking the fish with a buoy, and anchoring as gently as I can a little distance away from the marker. I'm still not very successful. Maybe even though I'm doing all of that...the crappie are still spoked away. Some of the lakes I fish are at times pretty shallow 12 feet of water.
Bub I'm just like you are when I want some fish I'll danm sure have a bucket of minnows and let's fish like my daddy always said fish don't get fat and grow by eating danm plastic
Casting your lure will put crappie in Your boat. This isn’t rocket science. Not many of these guys are out there with electronics, they use their 🧠👍👍🎣🫡.
