One of the better explanations of using a sonar unit I have seen. Thanks

Excellent instructor, very thorough. Would pay to spend a couple days fishing with him.

thanks for talking about the mortality rate. it seem with current technology that over fishing is a possibility.

These are great videos. I watched a ton of yours last year helping me understand my first fish finder and your guide on finding fish post-spawn has made it so that I have not had a trip this year where my ice chest stayed empty. Have you considered doing any night fishing videos? My favorite lakes have so much boat traffic during the summer with water skiers/tubes/jetskis that fishing during the day is tough. But at night it's a non-issue. You can get one of those big green lights that hangs 10 ft under the boat, anchor over a brush pile or drop-off, and catch fish all night with no boat traffic.

The only difficulty with night fishing is getting enough light for cameras, but night fishing for crappie is a great way to catch a bunch of fish.

Very informative video, thanks from all of us that still have the older units. I have a Helix 5GPS Si, it’s easy to mark waypoints, but how to correctly return to these waypoints are beyond me. In the future could you make a video on marking waypoints and the more importantly how to return to them? Thanks

You are a good teacher. Your 2d di and si are the best. I’m don’t like live scope. I will not fish like that. But thank you for all you do.

Man… you have come a long way. I was just watching one of your old slip bobber videos where you had a busted trolling motor head and now your are basically set with tech. One question, where are my best chances of finding bigger schools of crappie? The lake that I mainly fish have little to no brush piles but has super great weed lines that only hold small schools. I find that I only see large schools during the fall when they go deeper to mid-lake humps. Could it just be the population density in my lake?
@FloppingCrappie
@FloppingCrappie 3 года назад
Typically in the summer, crappie are spread out across the deeper weed edges. On my local lakes, the biggest schools only show up in the fall when the push to deeper water. Casting any search bait (crankbait, Beetle spin, swimbait) over the top of weeds and along the weed edge is your best bet of catching a bunch. This requires a lot of casting and moving as the schools in the summer don't just sit in a small area like they would on a brush pile.

Hey Sir first I want to say thank you for the awesome videos. But I need your help please. I have the Hummingbird GN2 Helix 7 with SI/DI and I can’t figure out how to get my setting straight. I tried to watch your videos to learn but I must admit I’m lost. I can’t seem to find any fish or structure even when I know I pass next to or over a tree. Any advice or help please. Thank you

I'm going to need more info to understand what is or isn't showing on your screen. The first thing I would check is if the transducer is level to the water. In order to get the best image, the transducer needs to be level. When using SI, make sure you are viewing no more than 50ft left and right. Shrinking the screen size will make it easier to spot fish and pieces of cover.

As the history moves across the screen does that represent the width of the cone or some other distance traveled ?

In this video, I believe gain was set to 6 or 7. I typically run gain a little above default setting.
