This looks like the Xcessive Manufacturing VVTI throttlelock for 2JZ motors. I was looking into one of these for my IS300 but then I read all the firsthand accounts of people on FB that bought it for their IS300s: Apparently on stock ecus it ends up breaking the throttlebody motors. People install it like you did, but they leave the APPS throttlemotor installed. You don't get the idle issues, engine dying, or CELs you have.... but I guess the motor fights the throttlelock until something breaks somewhere and the throttlebody gets jammed open. I asked if its like a simple repair and everyone just told me they just buy another throttlebody (I guess whatever breaks can't be repaired easily). After a few back and forth comments on that FB post, an IS300 friend of mine revealed to me in DMs that he's done the mod 5 times and broken 5 TBs. He said the mod tends to last longer on factory manuals versus automatic cars. Everyone sorta agreed you get about 6 months as most with auto cars and 6-12months if the car has the VVTI manual ecu What you did with the install of the lock and removing the APPS, is what people do when they go standalone with a VVTI TB. Your method is perfect for standalone use.
I’ve install the throttlelock on my 99gs300 completely stock no standalone nothing has been running great for 2yrs now no issues I of course left the throttle motor installed still no issues.
@@FredoJones-r8yHey man hopefully you see this, but i just bought a throttle lock for my is300 and it’s doing exactly what this guys gs300 is doing, weather the throttle motor is plugged in or not???? HELP, I can rev it all the way up to 6,500 rpm in neutral, but as soon as i go into gear and get over 2,300ish it cuts out and dies????
Despite how Cody advertises these as being usable on a stock manual ECU or an aftermarket ECU if you have an automatic it doesn't. Ive personally tried it on a factory manual IS (which he claims it works on) and it does not work at all. Youre better off doing a Premium Japan throttle kit because those actually work and dont throw any codes. However they are definitely not cheap.
(stock ecu automatic) doesn’t like the mod I adjusted the TPs thinking maybe it was the issue and the car just did not like it I couldn’t drive the car normally it continued to shut off with the CEL for the throttle motor luckily I did the mod on a spare Throttlebody so I just installed my old one and was ok but in my book it’s a fail I will not use this or recommend it for anyone’s car I build
@@builtalliance2501 and on a factory manual ECU it's kind of the same story. Same codes and everything but the high idle is more annoying because you can't just put it into drive and have idle lower a bit. And I tried everything to make it work. I even took it apart again and verified the throttle blade was closing all the way, verified the TPS settings. I also replaced the throttle body gaskets and verified I had no vacuum leaks anywhere and it made no change. I put the throttle motor back on and the idle went right back to 700rpms where it should be. There's just no way to make it work on a stock ECU manual or automatic. Maybe it can be made to work on an aftermarket ECU but I wouldn't waste my time trying. You're better of with a Premium Japan throttle kit as those are known to work well with stock ECUs without throwing any codes
@@WoodrowsWheels I have heard of the Premium Japan throttle kit but I have yet to meet anyone who has first hand experience of using one on an OEM ecu. I have a Japanese friend who was in touch with the company and they told him their kit was not recommended for the stock ecu, but for converting ETCS-i throttlebodies into thru cable driven ones. Since then I have been looking to see if anyone has tried their kit on a factory ecu, because their kits look to replace the gearing mechanisms of the APPS and the linkages that connect to the throttleplate
@@brianwhedon8442 if you dig around on Google for old forum posts you can find many people that have run it without issues on a stock ECU. MrBattlelac on RU-vid has a video showing how the throttle blade and throttle motor won't interfere with each other like using just a throttle lock will. The premium Japan kit doesn't force the throttle control motor to fight with your pedal which results in wearing out the clutch in the motor. I would link you everything but unfortunately RU-vid does not like people putting links in comments here.
