Hey everyone! This video was really fun to make. This truck gave me a new found appreciation and respect for the 2nd generation Tacoma!!!
***excuse me when I say “5 speed manual” it’s actually a 6 speed manual.
I hope this video helps someone get a good look at it. Please let me know if you own a 2nd gen and how you like it!

Hello Brian this was a great review on an awesome truck! I own a second generation 2007 Tacoma base model single cab 5 speed manual. I bought it new on 07’ this truck hasn’t given me any problems at all it’s super dependable. I have just hit 76k recently. The only thing I regret was not buying one like on your video from the start. I wanted the V6 access cab SR5 but couldn’t afford it at the time. Now 17 years later it wouldn’t have mattered. I am happy to own a 2nd generation Tacoma. Thanks for the review take care!

I didn't go through all the comments, to see if someone else said this, but the color is Metallic Blue Ribbon. Yes the lack of tailgate dampers and hood pistons are inconvenient, but you can get aftermarket solutions. I have a 2015 Double Cab Long Bed TRD Sport in this color, no longer available, and l love it. The TRD Off Road has a locking rear diff, but I'm going to get an ARB air locker, and try to make this the last truck I buy. I got the double cab for better comfort with 4 people vacations, and the long bed to camp in the back with a shell.

The 2nd gen 6 speed is definitely more clunky than 3rd gen I've had both. I believe the reason for your trans feeling more smooth in 2nd gen is because it's broken in these transmissions take 30-50k to get broken in, but as far as new vs new 3rd gen is definitely smoother, especially in 32 degrees and below temps.

"eat a sandwich if you eat" floored me 🤣 I have an 07 Tacoma. Got it used about 11 years ago. Ive had to replace the frame (toyota covered that), the motor (but that was me, and am just replacing the transmission (that was my wife). Yes that's a lot of money over the years. But I bought it for just over 20K and have since will have about 20k into it over ten years and most of that is from user Fs. It's still a solid truck, it's seen highways, mountains, off-road trails, and even been driven through a few fields and through woods that have never seen tires ; I have never even considered another truck. 2nd Gens are something else.

Wow! Crazy too see how simple the second gen tacomas are even in 2015! I currently own a 07 fire-truck red Trd sport access cab and it is so similar to the 15. I wolnt have the 07 for much longer as I will be getting my 2022 barcelona red Trd sport next month once it finally ships. I am dying to get a picture of the both of them together before I part ways to really see the difference. My 07 would have lasted longer than me but Ive decided now is a good time to get a new car and build more credit with housing being so expensive. The most major difference that I see from my 07 is the access cab back seats are more like fold over bench seats (no head rests!) and when you fold them over they make a really nice flat platform, similar to the double cab gen3s, my dog loves it especially with the back window open to stick his head out. Also, not to mention mine is all analog with zero buttons on the steering wheel ,but I did end up getting a pioneer touch screen entertainment system put in. Weirdly enough my e-brake is a pedal as well, they cant seem to figure out where they want it. Still wish I could have both at the end of the day. Great content, you do a great job.

This video's a year+ old but in case you still review comments, I have a silver automatic 2014 Tacoma double cab 4wd short bed, purchased used with 64500 miles. The one thing that immediately jumped out at me is mine also had that INTENSE heat situation. I liked it in winter but, when summer rolled around, I noticed the AC wasn't blowing nearly that cold. I took it to the dealer I got it from, and they told me the AC was "overcharged." they fixed it and it wasn't ever an issue again. Otherwise, I've put a 2" lift on the front, 3" lift on the rear, Ikon leaf springs, and a fiberglass shell over the bed. Mine is the base model so pretty much bare bones but it's a badass off-roader now. Oh I did have to replace the battery a month after I got it but that may have been due to installing a Car Play stereo in it. Anyway, love the truck. Have about 104k miles now. At the time of purchase I had my choice of 3rd gen or 2nd gen and I just felt like that 4.0L V6 would fit me better and for longer.

Body is fantastic, frame was resprayed but needs a new x crossmember underneath rear. 127k made in Canada automatic 4.0 5sp. and runs smoothly. Got it for $7700. And needed one new transmission line, tires, headlights and clock spring. I just repaired the Y pipe connection and did all my own work so saved a lot. $1500. In parts. Really nice find! I’m looking for something similar in BC or Washington (where I live). Craigslist has some good ones in BC, but I’m being picky about exactly what I want: a V6 with an access cab, a 6’ bed, made in the US or Canada (not Mexico). My understanding is that the sweetest years are 12-15 (I’m unclear about the frame rust issues in the earlier Gen 3 range). I would go for a manual if I could find one. A canopy would be the cherry on top. Just learning about Tacomas now, I’m replacing an old Ranger with 225k miles (which still runs amazingly great, but the body is now for sheet).

Pros: 200k miles only needed ac compressor replaced. Still original suspension (but feels like it). The traction control off but not totally off works really well. You can spin the tires and drift around but limits how much you will slide sideways and always seems to keep the nose pointed where you want. 5spd auto trans still shifts flawlessly, but I completely change the fluid about every 50k miles. Cons- The weatherstripping on a 1st gen dodge neon frameless window makes less noise at 118mph as a 2nd gen tacoma's does at 75mph The absolute worst cruise control i've ever used, more like cruise suggestion. It waits until its 5mph behind on the slightest incline then downshifts once it realizes its too far below the set speed, then speeds about 5 mph faster than the set speed before settling back down to where it was set. Traction control settings/naming are very non-intuitive, especially with the a-trac on top of the traction control.

2nd gens are really the best version of the Tacomas, you can get it in so many variations for what you need. With my 2010 4.0 I get 20mpg combined, much better that my 15.5 mpg on a first gen Tundra although the 4.7 engine is smoother. Just bought a 2014 Tacoma with 40k miles as my first financed vehicle, as I’m only 18. I opted for the inline 4 over the V6 since it’s my daily driver and I do not need to tow anything and can benefit from the improved gas mileage.

New Tacoma trucks, in My area are HARD to come by ( at least the four cyl ones ) ! I went to the dealership to buy one , but , They didn't have a single four cyl on the lot ( new OR used ) ! I looked at used trucks on other lots , but , the newer ones were almost as expensive as the MSRP on a similar NEW Tacoma ( so , I plunked down a deposit on the next one coming in ) ! It's just a base model ... but how fancy dose it have to be to haul off the garbage & drive to work ....

The second and third gen of the Taco are very similar. They share the same frame. The current exterior is a refinement of the second gen. The interiors also have a similar layout. The second gen has a better power train and transmission. I'm surprised the current Tacoma isn't considered a generation 2.5 like the 2014 redesign of the Tundra.

I've got a 2013 base cab and I found out I can install the wiper switch with the intermittent aspect. I'm looking into the cruise control to see all the parts required to do so. I have to pull out the horn/airbag to see if their are 3 contacts in the plugin female socket @ the clock spring. If it's there I can order the cruise switch, the airbag wire and the clutch switch as I found the blue & green male plug for the clutch switch under the dash.

I had an 06 access cab v6 stick, exactly like this one except it was black. Called her the black beauty. I had no problems with her until it reached 249,000 miles. Serpentine belt snapped and a massive oil leak at the same time. It needed a rebuilt engine to get it back on the road, and I decided the price was a little too steep and too risky. Don't believe that general belief that toyotas last forever or a million miles etc... anyways I still ended up having to buy a 3rd gen as a replacement. I've only had the 3rd gen for a month and I already miss my 2nd gen. The 3rd gen is too woke for me. Too many gadgets that I don't know what it's for or need, and I hear the 4th gen is gonna even be worse obamba mobile with the batteries and no power crap like that. I'm a lifelong Tacoma fan and have owned several. The Tacoma, in my opinion, is the most successful truck design ever. But I am supremely disappointed in the downgrading of engines in the new 2024 Tacomas. The V6 is gone. We all know why - the government meddling has placed pressure on automakers to meet strict and increasingly impossible guidelines on emissions. So now we will see the Tacoma, which has become a heavier truck over the past decade, powered by tiny 4 cylinder engines with superchargers on them to squeeze extra power while greatly shortening the engine life. Say goodbye to putting several hundred thousand miles on one...with a new one you'll be lucky to get 80,000 miles before it needs a tear down.
