Proper sequence for avoiding the splash. 1. Loosen the fill plug and snug it back up, finger tight. 2. Remove the drain plug--the vacuum will prevent the large outrush of fluid. 3. Remove fill plug once the large outrush of fluid has slowed.

Just did oil changes with Amsoil 75w90 and it comes in bags now making oil changes a breeze. No pump necessary as you can manipulate the sturdy bags to fit. And just squeeze it in there. Very convenient. No I’m not a Amsoil dealer. Just made life easier.

A couple pro tips, like you did driving over to your folks place get some heat in the oil flows much easier also crack the fill plug loose but don't take it out all the way that way when you take the drain plug loose the oil drains slowly and you don't run the risk of over shooting your drain pan or making a big mess. Once you got the drain plug out then take the fill out the rest of the way. Good Job and good explanation!

Thanks scooter! I will definitely do that with the fill plug next time because that oil shoots out faster than I expect. 👍

I recently changed the front, rear and transfer case fluid using Super Tech 75/90 sold at Walmart for about half the price of Mobile One and both made at same refinery. I also added 6 ounces of L/S additive to the rear diff. If I had gone to the dealer each diff change would have been 149.99 including the transfer case.

Thats a cool little tip for the obsessed ocd'ers with the little flush technique. I like to just re educate myself to remind myself and im gonna do this again this weekend. I was lazy and didn't want to order these n i have dealership right up the road n i believe i paid like 20 or 21 bucks for these washers and 2 oil plug washers (why they call some of the washers n some gaskets is just plain stupid to me, anything i put on the end of a bolt to me is a waher lol). Anyway if you read this how much fluid should i purchase if im doing front, transfer and rear diff? I have a 2nd gen 2.7l obv 4x4.

Double check in your owner's manual by all 3 for my Tacoma is 5.8 quarts ... so 7 quarts would be good so you have extra to help flush the drained diffs.

I just changed the transfer case & front/rear diff fluid on my 09 taco and when working the front, I discovered the drain plug was stripped (I bought this truck used almost 2 years ago). ***Heads Up***That drain plug on the front diff is a whore, I stripped it out almost completely trying to loosen it. Stop what you are doing and get a new plug. PB blaster twice 2 days before. Its just a crap design with dissimilar metals, and a little 10mm hex key and a huge plug. So if you have a little left to grip the trick is to lightly tap the back of the head of the breaker bar with a very small 6 oz ballpien hammer while slowly gently loosening it. Then after a few minutes it breaks the seal you smash yourknuckles but you did it. It got a little nickel anti seize before being reinstalled and torqued to spec.

What size torque wrench are you using? The link in the description for the torque wrench is dead.
@Tacomaholic
@Tacomaholic 3 года назад
Thanks for the heads up about the dead link. I'm using this torque wrench now ( amzn.to/36D6WM1 ) and I love it because the handle is long enough so you can do all of your lugnuts without needing to reposition as you would with a shorter handle torque wrench.

@@Tacomaholic Thanks for sending the link! For some reason on my end all I see pinned at top is your link to avoid the stealership videos. I know the washers are for rear diff, transfer case and front diff. Where is the brass washer used I forget which gear case and whether drain or fill plug. Thanks! I used your vids to switch front, t-case, rear with Amsoil 75w90 synthetic (very well done btw) My 2012 Tacoma TRD Sport just hit 100,000 km (Little over 62,000 miles) I figured that’s a good milestone to change oils that are due and I’m not sure about. Question is do you think with the syn you can extend oil changes?
