inspection shows that there would be an x-squared term in the equation meaning two solutions. Since this problem's description has a different equation than the one solved I solved both. sol.1 x= 0 sol.2 x= -5/4 screen shot sol.2 x= -2/5 description prob

I found one of your videos by chance while searching a solution to an every day problem. Finding your comprehensive style helpful I subscribed. In this video you talk about finding the “lost” people - those your trying to help. Well here I am; 51 years old and still trying to get through algebra. I haven’t given up even though it was my math class every year in high school. Thank you for being comprehensive with your explanations.

Greetings. The answers are X=0, -5/4. These values are obtained from 2X =0, 4X+5=0. When 4X+5=0, 4X=-5, and X=-5/4. Moving forward, when 2X=0, X=0/2=0.

Got the same anxswers just different methods. First one multiply out and get 8xsquared + 10x =0 then subtract 10x bothsides….8 x squared = -10x then divide both sides by x… 8x=-10 divide by 8 gives x=-10/8 reduce give -5/4. For other multiply out.8xsquared-10 x=0 then factor out x gives x(8x +10)=0 then divide both sides by (8x+10) gives x = 0/(8x+10)=0 so answer is x=-5/4,0 long way round I know but that’s just me

immediate inspection shows that x=0 is a solution, that since it is a second order equation there must also be a second solution. If you divide both sides of the equation by 2x, then you just have to solve 4x+5=0, simple: x=-5/4. seems like a easy peezy solution :)

Just use the zero product property. If 2x and 4x + 5 multiplied together is 0, then at least one factor equals zero. So you solve the equations 2x = 0 and 4x + 5 = 0 separately. 2x = 0 x = 0 4x + 5 = 0 4x = -5 x = -5/4 So the solutions are x = 0 and x = -5/4

The zero anaswer was evident just looking at the equation. I like using representing fractions with decimal values whenever I can so the second answer for me was -1.25.

Using X as your unknown is confusing when it is the same as a multiplication sign. Why didn't you use Y or something?

You didn't check your results. -5/4 doesn't actually work unless I did something wrong but I don't see any errors in my work.

in the equation my answer is -5/4 as an improper fraction, took my 5 secs to figure out! BTW, zero is considered neither positive nor negative, yet it is considered a number.

If 2X(4X + 5) = 0 then either 2X or 4X + 5 must be 0 2X = 0 divide both sides by 2 X = 0/2 X = 0 4X + 5 = 0 subtract 5 from both sides 4X = - 5 divide both sides by 4 X = - 5/4 X = 0 or - 5/4

Only 0 times contents of parentheses is zero. So 2x must equal zero. So what can I multiply by 2 and get zero?Only zero times 2x is zero. So what can I add to 5 to get zero? It’s -5. So 4x must equal -5.

Any high school will tell you that 2x = 0 or 4x+5 = 0, so x =0 or x = -5/4. And it took you over 20 minutes. When you going to complete the syllabus. Makes me wonder

the easiest way is 8x>2 +10x =0 divided by x is 8x +10 =0 8x =-10 x x =-10/8 and of course easier is zero

Somehow, I didn't see "0" as a number. Of course, anything multiplied by "0" is "0". Maybe that's why I didn't see it as a real number.

The equation in your video title is 2x(5x+2)=0, but the equation you solve is 2x(4x+5)=0.

I see your vids often. 1. I am German and english is not my native language. 2. I am 70 (close 71) and school math and techn. engineering with technician grade is long ago. So I forgot a lot or is grabbed deep in my brain. What you explained, even on a lot of your other videos, at the end was very clear and simple. But sorry to say this again. You talk to much beside, eg. here about the various parabolica functions, which telling this at this stage confused more than it will help.

For 2x(4x+5)=0 that means either 2x=0 or 4x+5=0. For 2x=0 that means x=0 and for 4x+5=0 that means 4x=-5 and so x=-5/4

Your lessons are good. But for a RU-vid video, you talk way too much about sensible nonsense. I think your videos would be better if you were actually teaching in front of students. Then you could get away with doing 4 or 5 problems to explain the problem that you asked.

You talk about solving in the most efficient manner but you certainly don't explain it in the most efficient manner. I took one glance at it and I could just write down the answer. Then I looked at the length of the video and said forget it. It's 20 minutes longer than it needs to be to explain this.
