I returned my first MG7150 back as both Canon Support and EBuyer agreed this ticking sound was a fault. I've just purchased another, white one from John Lewis, and it makes the exact same sound. Is this a fault in design?
Mine does exactly the same. it must be something to do with the paper output tray because when this is open, it doesn't make the noise, it's only when it's shut does it sound like a machine gun!
I notice you just lifted the internal access at the start, if you lift this up the ink trays should roll over to allow access to them, I'm wondering if it's maybe this that's the issue, have you removed the clip holding the ink tray in place whilst in transit as it certainly sounds like something is jamming or preventing movement? I hope you manage to get it sorted if you've not already done so. I've just ordered this model myself, I hope it does work as I've just had to return the model down from it, MG6450 as the screen was not working and build quality very shoddy. If it turns out to be the same with your model I think I'll return and look at another manufacturer. Go back 10 +/- years and their printers were amazing and quality was excellent, have just retired my old MP760 which finally gave up...doubtful that these latest models will last :(
You can't make it out in the video but the ticking is coming from the left of the printer. I've had a look and the inks are in the centre or to the right hand side when the sound is occurring. Canon Support claim the sound is normal operation and it's the agitation unit readying the inks, but it would make sense to me the inks would be to the left at the time if that were true. I'm with you on the quality, I had a i560 before this for years and was the reason I chose Canon again this time. This one's a little more flimsy than I would have liked but the quality of the printing I've done so far has been good. I'll be keeping the printer so will see if that works out as a wise move. I don't do a lot of printing so it may turn out to be fine. It will be interesting to know if your printer is in the same 'perfect working order' as mine, let me know how you get on :)
The printer arrived, I've tested it out and it seems to make the same sound, it only seems to occur when it's doing something with the print heads. If you turn it off it seems to do some sort of test cycle when powered on again and every so often after some printing. My printer is hard networked and does it less as it never powers of fully but sits in a low power state, I've only heard this sound twice over the last few of days usage; once when it was first booted and only yesterday after some heavy printing. I have to say it's working perfectly and is far better build quality than than the 6450 model. I think the sound on this latest model is to do with the plastic used inside where the moving parts are, its light weight and can sound clunky, you can see an example of it when you open the paper jam door at the back. Hope yours is still going solid :)
Thanks for letting me know. It sounds like yours works identically to mine. I've not actually used mine since so can't add much else, I am a bit of light user. :) I'm glad it fulfils your expectations and the sound isn't too much of a worry. Finger's crossed we'll both get a good life out of them.
