In this video, I repaint my targa bar, 16” Fuchs wheels, door handles, and windshield wipers on my Grand Prix White 1986 Porsche Carrera Targa. This is my first video about my Porsches so go easy on me =). I wanted to start documenting my ownership because these are the type of videos I like to consume as a Porsche enthusiast. I also found some missing videos for things I was searching. I hope this video can help other Porsche 3.2 Carrera or Targa owners who are looking to repaint some parts of their cars.
I took the car to East Auto Body in Orange, CA. I have no connection or interest in saying their name in this video. I only mention them because they are well known in the Porsche enthusiast world and I’m always looking to help small businesses that do quality work. It only took 2 days for Shane to have it done!
Parts of the car that were repainted/fixed:
-Targa Bar
-16” Fuchs Wheels with black centers
-Door handle-windshield wipers
-small chips and scratches
-Shane also changed out my broken window switch which was great
Please let me know what you think and also which mod I should do next to my 1986 3.2 Carrera Targa!!
Below are some that I have on my list:
-“Third Foot” Gas Pedal
-370mm Momo Prototipo with Rennline Quick Release
-rear wheel spacers
-Targa Top rebuild by Targa Dan / Cars Inc
-3-point rear seatbelts for the kids
-period correct Bluetooth enabled stereo
-H4 or LED Headlights

Beautiful work! Glad you got such a nice little refresh for your classic 911. It really makes it look nice. Cheers

Looks way better and the factory look is always best and preserves the car's value. When you replace the lugs, get only factory original lugs, they are more expensive but lighter and superior in quality to aftermarket. Cap off the wheel locks with the proper plastic caps - details matter!

Welcome to the slippery slope of modifying these wonderful cars! Some other easy mods are rear seat delete, exhaust upgrade, heat backdate.

Oh man. I know. Totally a slippery slope. I've already started falling down the slope too. You'll see in my coming video about mods.

Kyle I have found the best forever solution for front hood struts is one okay hydraulic strut and one Rennline mechanical strut. Reason: Hood is heavy to lift if you only have the Rennline strut (I have a longhood, so even moreso) and Rennline holds up forever, but provides no lift assist. I have tried many solutions over 40 yrs, this is best I found.

Thank you for this video. This is your subscriber from Los Angeles. Thank you. Yes, I have a target at 78 and my target bar looks like crap but I just recently bought the car and at the end of the video you took a picture in Long Beach right across the street from my friend, Rafeal which I’m pretty sure you know maybe he’s a Porsche guy as well either he lives across the street from where you took the picture or a couple of houses going south. Well, thank you for this video. I have to do the same thing to my target also!

Congrats on the new car! That photo was actually in South Orange County, not Long Beach. Thanks for subscribing!!

You can use ceramic coating on all the gaskets and black rubber , etc. to renew black color. Dont replace the targa gasket if it is sealing well, you will regret the results. Ceramic coating can be put on glass, etc. almost anything..

Gorgeous work brother! Looks so damn good. I wish they'd cleaned your tires while they were at it, but a lovely bit of work. Cheers Dr J

Just curious if you tried polishing the bar, a paint correction? Painting was probably needed but the nerd in me would have tried. That'll buff right out!

This is so helpful to see. Thank you. Is it ok for you to tell us how much you paid to repaint that Targa bar?

Glad you found it helpful. I think all of it together was around $1500 so not sure how much just the bar was.

Kyle, any idea what kind of paint they used? Maybe on your receipt? Across all of the fora I seem to be split between Glasurit and Wurth, probably in satin. I have a feeling I've seen the actual Glasurit site with the paint code at some point, but can't find it now. Have emailed East Auto Body, but I'm 3,000 miles away, we'll see if they have time to get back to me. Your bar and your wheels look fantastic!
