In my videos I compare the 3.5 EcoBoost to the 2.7 liter EcoBoost. both engines have their advantages and are great in different ways. comment below! thanks for watching! Instagram: / seanstokes22
We just sold out 2009 F-150 Platinum and are down to my SUV. My husband works so much that he cannot even find the time to look for a new truck, but we know we want F-150 XTL and I've made it my goal to learn about them for him. Your video is helping me understand what type of truck we need. Thank you for sharing this, it has helped me so much and after many pauses and taking so many notes, I sent my husband this video! You helped me so much understand the different between the two!
I'm currently in the market for a new truck and have been eyeing a 2022 Lariat 4X4 with the 2.7L and have been on the fence. Thank you for videos like this. It makes me feel like the 2.7L for my uses is going to be the engine to go with. I tow a 3000lb boat with trailer every once in awhile but usually it's just me doing my daily thing. Much appreciated!
I traded in a 2.7 STX for a 3.5 XLT Sport, with the max tow package. Pulling our 6k travel trailer, there is no comparison. The 3.5 has far more low end torque. It makes towing effortless. The 2.7 was impressive though. Gotta say, I love the 3.5. It is an animal.

I agree with everything you said except the 5.0 comments. The 2.7 is a better engine, from. 15-17 the 5.0 was better but from 18 to current it just has too many issues from engine noises and excessive oil burning, it is definitely behind the 2.7L. I agree with you the 3.5 trucks are higher trim levels ,higher GVWR,and most are noticeably heavier as well. My2017 3.5XLT was loaded and had the 3.5, what a quick truck ,and would pull a mountain, my new truck is optioned like your 2018, lariat 502A technology package sunroof, max tow,etc.... anyway my 2017 3.5 would literally walk away from my 2020 3.5 both bone stock.i know my new truck needs to break in but it’s a very noticeable difference and I believe the difference is about 230 lbs of weight between the 2 trucks .
I think a big issue with the 5.0 is the oil is so thin to meet emissions... I would love to have one if it had no issues... I do enjoy how to 5.0 puts down power.
DS TRUCKS every ford NA engine uses that thin oil . I have 4 2019 and newer Fords in my fleet 2 are 3.7 Police pursuit explorers that get run hard and they burn no oil and use the same 5w20 as the 5.0. My 2020 Corolla uses 0w16 oil and burns zero oil ... this isn’t an oil issue . Changing to 5w30 is supposed to be beneficial to the cam phasers but 5.0s don’t have a ton of issues with phasers .
@@JohnDiMartino it will be interesting if you tried synthetic in those police vehicles to see if that helped with burn off at all... I'd be curious to see what would happen, more burning or less... Maybe the Corolla would burn some oil if it had to work as hard as the police pursue vehicle?
DS TRUCKS I’m running Carquest brand full synthetic oil in those cars in 5w20. I run Gulf 5w30 full synthetic in out pickups I buy it in a 55 gallon drum the cost that way I believe is about 1.70 a quart and it’s great oil .
Get the new ‘21 f150 with the 3.5 eco, the more power it has holy shit it’s quick, I just got 2 months ago an xlt 2 door with the long bed and the 3.5. It fucking flys

Dude the 3.5 will win every time with the same trim.... same body weight, but bigger engine/ bigger hp/tq. 3.5 ecoboost all day imo.. I own 2016 3.5 ecoboost fx4. She's an ecoBEAST.
Congratulations sr !! I really really like how you explain everything about this trucks , to me ford trucks are # 1 I just don’t care what people said but , FCA / Chrysler, dodge , Chevrolet trucks are garbage , ford trucks # 1 no question about it..excellent video sr 👍...
I’m having such a difficult time deciding what engine to get in a new 2021 F-150 . Currently own a 2011 F-150 5.0 been great so far . Between the 2.7 ecoboost ,5.0 , and 3.5 ecoboost just doesn’t seem to get a clear wrong choice . There all good .
How reliable has the Ford 150 2.7 L truck been since it first came out? Has there been any major mechanical problems compared to the 3.5? Appreciate your videos thanx much.
2016 2.7, 138,000 miles, 0 issues. Actually whole truck has been great. 1 set of tires, brakes once, oil changes and windshield wipers... that's it. The longer I own it, the more I love it.

I just traded in my 2.7 yesterday. I went with the 5.0 this time. I have nothing bad to say about the 2.7. (Except how ugly it is), sorry I’m a car detail enthusiast 😬. All seem like great engines with different strengths.
DS TRUCKS I have not pushed it yet since it’s new. What I would say about the 2.7, and low speeds/RPM it is so responsive and quick for its size. The sound though of the 5.0 is beautiful 😊.
I have a 2014 ram 1500 pentastar (3.6 v6) and I’m questioning if I should get the 2.7 I found. It’s a 4x4 2018 in magma red with 30k and I’m torn cause I thought it was the 3.5. Should I be worried
@trefor It all depends on what you plan on doing with it. You may have a tougher time finding a used 3.5 versus a 2.7 truck, it took me about 6 months till I found my 2018 2.7. And during my search I didn’t find many 3.5 for sale in my area. The ones I did find with the 3.5 I could tell they were used hard for towing some heavy trailers so I passed on those
I don’t know how your getting that type of mpg my 2018 2.7 with 3.55’s with 33’s only gets 14.5 mpg by itself hand calculated. The dash says 17 but that’s not true
There's not a huge difference as far as final drive ratio. The six-speed is a little bit more reliable and a little bit less noticeable. As far as shifting. 10 speeds typically mounted to a better updated engine.
Man i still cant get on board with this ten speed it sux i wanted to like it too but the whine it makes when accelerating and they still havent figured out this high pitch squel i hear when i get going from a stop as it goes through the gears and the rpms go up they thought it was a intake issue because it sounds like a vaccum leak but to me when the windows are down it sounds like it comes from up underneath the truck ive had two of them and they both do it its defintly a bummer
@@DS-TRUCKS defintly sounds like it when i get going from a stop when the rpms are going up you hear the squel it almost has like a bad brakes like sound but as soon as the rpms drop it goes away but ones the rpms start going back up between shifts there goes the squel again very annoying and once you notice it its like you can unotice it and the whine i keep on hearing eveeybody keeps on telling me thats just a charecteristic of the 10 speed so ibdont know man like i said its just a bummer and then all the bumping and jerkyness of it also sucks
My truck hasa 3.5 H.O. ecoboost and my wife's Fusion has a 2.7 ecoboost. Totally different vehicles, and both are tuned and my Raptor feels quicker. That said that 2.7 tuned in that Fusion Sport get over 100mph very quickly!
The most powerful version of the 5.9 Mangum was 250 HP and 330 TQ. The 2.7 is rated at 325 HP and 400 TQ. The 2.7 also has ten gears to choose from vs 4 in the magnum.
@james I just sold my ‘98 dodge quadcab with the 5.9 magnum 3:55 gear and bought a 2018 -2.7 with 3:55 gear Screw. The ford has the same towing capacity (7700lb) as the dodge had. I loved the 5.9, good torque an HP, but this 2.7 is damn fast and gets twice the mpg as the dodge
@@paulhunter9613 Well yeah, with the same weight you have a big naturally aspirated pushrod 2 valve v8 with a 4 speed auto vs a 2.7 dual overhead cam 4 valve turbo and a 10 speed auto with a much more aggressive first gear, so of course it will feel more powerful. As for the fuel economy, well its dual injection 4 valve variable valve timing with half the displacement.
I'm considering my first full-sized truck and I am torn on if I should pull the trigger on a 2020 or wait till 2021. Any thoughts or insights? I wish Ford would hurry up and post the build and price on their site so I know what I am looking at haha. I've tried the Costco and leaked documentation route, but still not able to get a good sense for it.
Depends. The 2021 is going to be more modern for a long time. The 2020 is going to be more reliable as it's already been built for so many years. 2021 is such a big change... Might be better just to get the 2020 and let them work out their kinks.
Think you should wait on the 2021. I’ve been looking myself and can’t find any with the 2.7 engine. I pull on ocasión a trailer with an ATV and some gear maybe 3000lbs with a Tacoma. I like how the 2021 has that giant display screen inside and think the Lay down front seats are a good idea.
Zac Coleman Several of my friends have the 2.7 with 4 doors and 4x4 and they are getting 18 mpg in the city my Tacoma gets like 14 to 15. Want a full size truck myself and think the F150 has a way better interior than the Tundra. I know has milage isn’t supposed to be something you think about. But compared to the tundra that gets 12 mpg that a huge difference. Everything I’ve read about the 2nd generation 2.7 say it’s built better than the 3.5 and I want ever tow anything over 5lbs so I know the 2.7 is for me. Get what you want though. The 3.5 is also a second generation and probably better than the first.
@chef Jeffery You have got that all wrong, the 2.7 is a good all around DD and will tow up to 7700, the 3.5 is a good DD and towing beast. The 5.0 is an ok DD and only has good torque to pull at 4000 rpm and above. Off the line it’s sluggish
My combined avg in my 2018 supercew STX 4x4 is 19.5 according to the read out on the dash. Today I took my wife to her eye surgery. I purposely drove my truck to see just how good mpg I could get. The 121 mile round trip got me 24 mpg average. Some highway and some city but mostly highway. I'm really dig'n the 2.7L. Now if I can just keep my foot out of the boost range at the traffic light.
You’re comparing a Gen 1 2.7 with a six speed and no dual injection, and less torque than the Gen 2 vs a Gen 2 ten speed 3.5. So not an apples to apples comparison.
Your 2.7 is a Gen 1. Your 3.5 is a Gen 2. The Gen 2 2.7 is even better with dual injection, more torque at a lower rpm and a flatter power band overall.
@@jbostock29 The 2.7 was Gen 2 in 2018 with the men's cycle refresh. When it came out with a new front end. The Gen 2 3.5 EcoBoost started in 2017, right before the refresh.
I went with the 2.7 and it has been great for me. I pull a 18' bass boat regularly and it has no issues with that. I have not towed my tractor with the 2.7 yet but I only tow it 2-3 times per year anyways so I decided I'd rather get the better mpg for daily driving even if it doesn't pull the tractor as well as my 2014 5.0. I'm averaging 21mpg in my 2019 2.7 and it has plenty of power!

So if you had to choose between a 2021 2.7 twin turbo or a 2021 3.5L both 4WD which one would you choose? I currently have 2018 2.7 eco no twin turbo just a RWD sometimes I feel like it lacks power it’s my daily driver. I drive about 60 miles a day does a twin turbo really make a difference?
I have a 2018 2.7l ecoboost and was wondering if you could provide some insight. Whenever I cold start my truck, it will idle a bit high and if I drop it into drive within the first minute or so of start up it hard jerks forward. Also after a cold start, while switching from 3rd to 4th gear, the RPMs will hold and shoot to about 3.5k, hard shift into 4th, then drop back down to about 2300 rpms. It's incredibly annoying. Any idea what's going on?
@@crisp5951 unfortunately, no. Ive just been letting it idle longer on start up and it seems to help a bit, at least with the jerking from park to drive. Flashed the computer several times and it only temporarily fixed the rought gear shift from 3rd to 4th
