That's why cricket has much more in it than baseball. spin+swing+drift+loop and take into account behavior of the pitch.

Clueless...why then does most cricket teams at your IPL level have baseball coaches bringing skills and techniques from baseball? Almost every improvement in skills has come from baseball. Clearly you know very little about baseball so pull your head in.

They are making it sound like spin is more "mysterious" than swing. The way spin bowling works is the probably the easiest to understand. The ball turns in the direction its spun. It's certainly hard to achieve accuracy and precision, but once delivered there's no mystery to it.
@anotheret
@anotheret 3 года назад
@rahul bobyGoogly (or its off spin variant, the doosra) are not mysterious in the way the ball behaves. They're just deceptive in the bowler's action so the batsman thinks that ball will turn a certain while it doesn't. A watchful batsman will pick out the googly or the doosra either during the release or by the way the ball spins.

If you play as a opening batsmen that is one of the things you look for. First thing which you look at when a fast bowler is bowling is the release position, you can tell if it is meant to be an outswinger or inswinger. Not necessarily look at the seam. You are supposed to look at the seam when it is released from the hand not when the ball is mid pitch. Same for a spinner, although due to a spinner being slower you can read him while the ball is in the air or even off the pitch

About why the ball swings more at some times than other, and marshies comments about a layer of humidity above the pitch: It would not surprise me if this is tide related. High tide draws the water up creating more moisture above the pitch, as well as more life and slickness in the grass.

if the ball is new and has no rough side?
@Mech.Masters
@Mech.Masters 10 лет назад

@imranahmedkhan
@imranahmedkhan 10 лет назад
Yes you are correct
@c3vzn
@c3vzn 8 лет назад
+Saith Farzam The new ball swings mainly because of the seam position. If it's angled to the left, when the air hits the seam from right to left it causes it to become turbulent and sticks to the ball on the left hand side, resulting in a force that pushes it to the left. After a while the seam the starts becoming less proud and you need a rough side to make the air turbulent on that side.
@thatseventiesguy
@thatseventiesguy 15 лет назад
But why do new balls swing with no rough side? And they talk about reverse swing having both rough sides, but in my experience there is still one shiny side that you have been working on and it swings towards that shiny side due to more weight being on that side.
@rahulthannickal
@rahulthannickal 16 лет назад

@PakiRaja
@PakiRaja 15 лет назад
new balls swing with no rough side because the direction of the seam causes turbulence, causing the rough air to "peal off" one side.

He says conventional swing happens when one side is shiny and the other rough. But when the ball is new both sides are shiny. Bowlers swing the ball from ball one. Also the reverse swing explanation sounds contradictory. For conventional swing the thicker layer stayed with the ball for a long time and for reverse swing it did not?! Conventional or reverse, the thicker layer is always on the rough side. Its just thicker than when it was new. Still a mystery to me!

Wrong .It was the famous Sarfaraz Nawaz from Pakistan who invented this magical delivery.Needs correction.Imran Khan his successor and junior to him at that time,learnt that art from the master and became a master himself. In 1974, Pakistan toured England after that, the team had a few unofficial friendly matches in the West Indies. By this time, Sarfraz had realised that Imran Khan would be his regular partner in the Pakistan team. It was only then that he shared his knowledge of reverse swing bowling with the great Imran khan.

visit dubai Please dont claim that your country holds claim over swinging lengths, because that is not possible. Googly was invented by Bernard Bosenquet I believe, not a pakistani. Doosra and Teesra are from Saqlain Mushtaq? But swinging fulltoss and reverse swinging yorkers werent discovered by pakistani players as swing was a technique and lengths were long established.
