Awe! Thanks for looking out for us guys! Fionna was talking about that lesson specifically! Not that we can't jump that high. I just asked her because so many people got confused ! She disagrees with jumping that big often and that's why we never jump that big! Her last jump like that was when we first got chino and she won't jump that big again for another long while! Thanks for having our back though and wanting us to be safe! Means a lot.

I think everyone who leaves a negative opinion about Gabby and Chino should spend more time taking riding lessons for themselves to better their life instead of leaving their opinions in the comments for people who don't need everyone telling them what to do. 💁‍♀️
@caseyscattle
@caseyscattle 3 года назад
Just because you don’t see a problem in the situation doesn’t mean it was unproblematic. Gabby and Chino are simply not ready for that height, if Fiona said in the last ride that they shouldn’t jump 3’3 that doesn’t mean that one ride later they can jump a 3’6 triple bar oxer. It’s not impressive it’s irresponsible and sets an awful example for the incredibly impressionable kids that watch this channel and want to do everything you do. You are still learning like every equestrian does but you always skip steps, seriously Gabby still has piano hands and looks down 90 percent of the time, those issues should be fixed before jumping 2’3 and learning how to figure out striding should be figured out by 2’9 at most. Obviously your fans who are looking out for your safety can’t change whatever decisions you make but none of us will be shocked when a vlog comes out and either a horse gets seriously injured, a rider gets seriously injured, or worse. None of us ever want to see a vlog that has a tragedy with one of you or one of the animals but we can’t be shocked when you make irresponsible decisions like this. Just because nothing awful happened this time doesn’t mean it can be used as a get out of jail free card, so many things could’ve happened and you guys are lucky that horse and rider made it over those jumps without any injuries.
@caseyscattle
@caseyscattle 3 года назад
@@Lifewithhorses628 Man I didn’t expect this from you, nice to see it though. As much as I enjoy the family they always skip key steps and bite off more than they can chew. They pay for the trainers but don’t listen to what they are told at all and they think they know everything there is to know and they can do no wrong with horses. It’s gotten to the point where it’s just plain irresponsible and as much as I’d hate to see a vlog where one of the girls or horses ends up injured or worse I can’t say I’d be surprised and I feel awful for even saying that but I can’t lie and say that with the decisions they make everything will turn out fine. Laura already broke her pelvis from moving up to bigger speeds when she clearly wasn’t ready, you’d imagine they’d learn and try to be more careful but nope, just get horses that carry you around the whole time and don’t worry about yourself just worry about going over the jump and not ya know the flatwork and skills that will actually help the horse and rider.

I used to agree and support this family, but I no longer can. You are RUNNING your horses into the ground. You don’t listen to your trainer who told you not to jump a 3’3 oxer. Then you go THE NEXT DAY jumping absurd heights. You literally praise every word gabby spits out of her mouth no matter if it’s true. During the live stream where you were asking what makes a horses tail shake. My answer “using Spurs incorrectly” was a hint towards gabby not being able to use Spurs. I would classify gabby as a beginner to intermediate rider. I may not be the greatest rider on earth, but I do my rare search before going out and riding. I know what is right and what is wrong. Completely disregarding your trainer was rude and disgusting. You pay too much attention to gabby and Sophie over on the side was being so much more responsible then all of you, COMBINED. At this point I don’t care if you block me. Also on the daily situation, you need to take her to a professional. She will become aggressive towards you or gabby trying to “protect” Sophie. I want to join in on what the comments are saying about this video. All I wanted to say was this was shit. If you look closely at the video. Chino is so close to hitting every single rail. He jumps EXTREMELY flat and not round at all. You can see Gary cracks his back and rounds over the jump. In that case I believe Gary has the ability to jump that height (At a moderate capacity). However, on the other hand Chico IN NO WAY should be jumping that high. In your last lesson Fiona told you not to jump over 3'3 with this horse. And there you go yet again, not listening to her. I'm surprised your trainer even lets you jump without a professional around. I would just walk out if I heard my student not listening. Its a waste of time for Fiona when she puts so much hard working into you guys. And in all honesty, what if you or someone got hurt. And don't say "Oh Laura was there" because that's BS. You need a professional watching for anything that goes wrong OR NOT EVEN JUMP AT ALL WITHOUT HAVING A LESSON. Flatwork is extremely important. I have only one jumping lesson a week and the other one is a ONLY FLAT. My horse doesn't step over a jump more than 2 days a week. It bothers me so much to see people complain about flat. Personally I like flat a lot more. You focus on finetuning the things you need to work on. My trainer always says, "A course takes about 2 minutes. Going over a jump takes 3 seconds out of those two minutes. What is the rest of the 2 minutes?" FLATWORK Sorry I'm going on a little rant but this is CLEARLY irresponsible. Laura, you are the adult and hearing you cheering for hurting your horse is clearly an example that you don't care. I doubt you even iced or wrapped your horses legs after that ride. You probably don't even know what a standing wrap is. You just threw them back out in the rocky paddock to figure it out. If you want to keep your channel kid friendly and supportive I suggest you look at your choices and think before you act. Thank you and I'm done with my little rant. I hate to be that person in the comments but I think the smart equestrians in this comment section will know why this needed to be said.

someone said you shouldn't be jumping over 2'6 without a trainer- i disagree. you shouldn't be jumping without a trainer, period. its not safe and i want what's best for you guys. safety first over everything. if gabby wants to jump 3'6 then, please, go search for a horse **WITH A PROFESSIONAL** that can jump that height. don't force it on chino or think that chino can do it just because you're paying for him. i know how you guys feel. im ahead of my horse in training and it gets frustrating knowing that he's a 3 foot horse and im trying to move up to the 3'6. im leasing him for the next year so im going to be perfecting 3 foot then ill be looking for something better fit for me. you see... perfect what can be perfected first, then search for a new opportunity after. please be more careful. and this is not hate. i don't think any of these comments are hate, we're just disappointed. there are no excuses, just do what's best for your kids. edit: gabby also needs to practice more and become a better rider. its not just the horse. its team work that is needed here. more attention to detail especially. no stirrups, working out, flat work, ground work, lateral work, professional rides by your trainers. there is so much more that can be done, please look into it.

As a nationally ranked hunter showing 3'0-3'6(in the USA), I ride 6 or 7 times a week, with 2 lessons. I jump in both, but in one I do around 2'6 and work on myself, positioning, and tricky grids/lines, and in the other I jump higher at the end (3'6-4'0), and only around 1 or 2 courses because I don't want to ruin my horses legs, especially because we show almost every weekend. The other days I flat and work on myself, because without flatting, you will NEVER place highly in the national and A circuits. I don't see how not listening to your trainer is safe for you and it won't make you a better rider. Riding without a trainer is very dangerous and I don't understand why you would willingly put chino and Gabby in danger. It is irresponsible to go against your trainers wishes, and jumping that high without them because you could seriously hurt or even kill chino.

I highly suggest you read this. I do not mean any of this in a negative way, I would just like to put out some advice and information for you guys as well as many people in this comment section and viewers. Keep in mind I work daily with two professional coaches, I am a horse trainer (I bring along green horses) and I have been in this business for 12 years. I understand jumping is fun, I think it is something most of us enjoy. Horses even enjoy it too. But jumping can only be done to a certain extent. Doing too much of it or jump heights that are too high (depending on horse ability and strength) can be very damaging to both the riders performance and the horse. Horses are just like people in the way that they get tired and their muscles get sore. Depending on the horse's agility and capability most horses should only be jumped 1-2 times per week. I like to use the rule of (for every 2- 3 rides of flat or pole work equals one day you can jump) this ensures that you are not over jumping your horses. And any time you jump you should always be giving proper after care which I do not see in the majority of your videos. Proper after care to me (depending on how much and high you jumped) is cold hosing all four legs or using ice boots, following liniment or poultice wrapping. These after care steps are extremely important if you are looking to keep your horse in a good physical condition as well as keep them healthy and happy. And then that brings me on to the topic of how beneficial flat work is. Although it may seem boring, there are many ways to make it fun, such as including poles or lower level dressage movements etc. Lots of people think "the only way to improve jumping is to jump" which is not the case at all. If you want to produce a top level jumper, the way you will do that is with flat work. Horses develop their muscles and balance from doing effective flat work, not from jumping. I'm not sure if you can see from videos or have noticed it but Chino has a very flat jump with not much power coming from behind, this is due to the fact that he needs more muscle development before you ask him to jump certain heights. Due to this flat jump Chino often knocks rails, as well as it is not the jump that judges are looking for in a hunter class. I highly suggest that you work on building Chino's muscle. An easy way to do so is with lots of trot poles and raised trot poles. As well as effective lunging which you could switch a riding session for a lunging session. I would ask your trainer of lunging exercises that would benefit Chino as I am sure she knows him well and what equipment he would work best in. And my last topic is (for the most part) you should only be jumping with a trainer (yes certain circumstances vary) When you jump with a trainer I like to call it "effective jumping" they coach you through it and pick up on things you wouldn't notice and they adjust certain exercises to help the effectiveness of your horses jump. So when you do jump you want to be doing it effectively so that you are getting the most out of your jump session as you should not jump often, you would not want to waste a jump session on "willy nilly" jumping as I like to call it. When jumping without a trainer you are essentially just throwing your horse over jumps there is no effectiveness to it as you don't have a trainer to coach you along. For example in this video there are lots of things that gabby could of been doing better to help Chino jump this high (and personally to me it doesn't look like he is ready to jump this high) , which a trainer would of picked up on. Also I know it might seem like jumping high is cool, but it only looks "cool" if it looks effective and put together. Only jump the hight your horse is physically ready for and perfect that hight before you start jumping higher. Just because a horse will throw themselves over a high jump it does not mean they should be or are ready to be jumping that hight. I hope you took the time to read this. I think it would be beneficial for Gabby to read as well. I hope you and any other viewer learned a thing or two from reading this. Wish you all the best with your horsies

Lessons unfortunately get taught the hard way and speaking from experience it totally shatters your confidence. It's great to be a confident rider but know your limits. Speaking from experience I was a confident rider when I was 15. I tried jamming days of jumping and raising the height of my jumps too quickly before a show and I paid for it. I was only jumping a 1.20m but I definitely wasn't ready to be jumping that back then. I was a trail rider who jumped the odd log. My horse from my very vague memory jumped bigger then I anticipated. I lost balance upon landing and hit the deck pretty hard. Smashed my head so hard against the ground that they thought I had split the helmet open. When I came to I couldn't remember how I got there, how my horse got her boots on and what happened. I had in fact got the boots that morning for my horse as my friend said through her tears as she thought I was going to die. My head was pounding for 2 days and my body ached like I had never felt before. Now you're lucky if I jump a twig these days. You should be listening to Fiona's recommendations. If not then why are you using her as your instructor? Don't rush things get the basics right first and then worry about putting your jumps up. When I stacked it I remember a friend saying to me who competed in show jumping she just simply said " You jumped too high too quick"

I thought the last video was just about you guys saying “just because you can doesn’t mean you should” Gabby should not be jumping 3’6 triple oxers, she is still incapable of seeing striding. Like the jump ISNT the important part, it’s the set up and it looks as if (from other videos) they still don’t have that part down due to the amount of missed strides and inbalance chino has. Yes, gabby is a good rider and can jump 3’6 but this is extremely irresponsible
@Emily-cz4hg
@Emily-cz4hg 3 года назад
Chino does NOT want to go higher. You jumped that jump way too many times for it to be safe or comfortable for the horses (specifically Chino). Chino is very clearly not fit enough to jump this height, it shouldn't have even been on the radar of ideas. It feels like he's stepping over it because all his weight is on his forehand. He has no springs or energy from behind and that will lead to injury if you continue to jump him into the ground as you are currently. People have continuously told you that the horses need to be flatted and that they need to be actually doing constructive work in their flat rides. Chino is going around with a hollow back and all his weight on the forehand and that's due to never doing enough flatwork for him to be able to build the muscles to carry himself correctly. Your horses will never be able to jump a jump successfully until they have a correct and fundamental flattwork base. Anyone with a trained eye can look at this and see that this horse (and rider) are not ready to be jumping this height (even if only rarely which is not an excuse, this should have never happened) and it will show when you go to Trillium. I genuinely want you guys to succeed but Trillium is a far off dream if you think it's okay to ride your horses in such manner with no consideration for their autonomy. Chino was just recently put back into to work and he should not have even stepped over a cross rail at this time. I will say it again, they need to be on a strict flatwork schedule til Chino is physically able to go over a jump with springs in his hocks instead of him reaching over a jump and throwing all his weight on the forehand.

I never usually comment bc it’s not like y’all will look at it. But this is just so irresponsible like there are so many things wrong with this video number one Chino isn’t wearing polo wraps or boots or any like protection. Secondly you don’t have a trainer there like Gabby yes she’s a great rider but she’s not advanced enough to be doing that stuff without a trainer or an adult who knows what they’re doing and can ride/jump that to give pointers or advice and to make sure she’s riding safely. And lastly the fact that you said “hopefully she gets this distance right” if your distances aren’t good and you aren’t able to adjust your stride to make sure you can get a good distance whether it be a long one or short one like you have to be able to see it so the fact that you’re jumping 3’6 that is not ok because you could easily injure your self or your horse if you don’t get a good distance on a jump that big.

Coming from someone that use to be top in their classes, blue ribbons ever class i showed in, and constant training 6x a week.. this is not ethical. I bought an OTTB/WB and i haven’t jumped in about 2 years. it’s all about consistency and flat work. gabby and sophie both have none of that, so when they jump, it’s sloppy and looks too straight forward. I definitely reccomend either getting a new trainer or really thinking about what you’re doing. you guys are going way ahead of yourselves and in the end, the horses are going to be the ones that are paying for it. Sophie personally needs a packer and not a green horse like finn. gabby has potential but needs a horse that she can work with and make mistakes on (like storm). this whole having six horses and overworking them and not creating a foundation is going to really deter their future in the equestrian community.

For about 2 years I have watched day by day on and off. I never subscribed for various reasons but this video is one of the best examples as to why I do not recommend them as a good example when lesson kids or parents ask me. Because they do not put their horses' well-being first. They make a show of buying expensive supplements and gear to give to and put on their horses yet when they ride I see things I wouldn't allow my camp kids nor myself to do. Even though I don't jump, I have enough knowledge of biomechanics and flatwork/dressage to know when a horse and rider aren't ready for it. With Sophia, I somewhat understand and applaud her for being careful and going slow, however, Gabby has worried me since the first videos I had seen of her. While I have no doubt she can be a sweet girl at home and off camera, on-camera she sometimes comes off as arrogant, rude, disrespectful, and full of herself. I can understand that this presentation may be a coping mechanism but it is no excuse and as a teen and young adult she has to learn to get over this and to own up to her mistakes. I can say with honesty now that I used to do some of this as well and it did not serve me well. Additionally, Laura is part of the problem. I understand that Laura isn't a harsh parent but at this point, it pisses me off when I see her almost literally pushed around by Gabby. I truly believe that she means well but she also doesn't put her foot down with Gabby about things and believes anything she says, leading to dangerous situations like the one in this video. She needs to do her own research and ask professionals like Fiona or Brandan for advice, not her teenage daughter. Gabby is taking advantage of that ignorance. It is my personal opinion that Gabby has some growing up to do mentally before she will be ready to jump any higher than the 2'6" she is doing currently or even jump at all. Additionally, I think both girls would benefit from a few dressage lessons with a proper dressage trainer on trained school horses so they learn what a horse that is moving properly and on the aids feels like.

I think that if Fiona has no problem then okay. However that does not mean that you should do it. Especially without leg protection. I also think that on days without lessons you should alternate flatwork to jumping. If you know your lesson is jumping, do flatwork before and after to give Chino's legs a bit of a break from all his weight slamming into them. Finn is a different story as he isn't jumping that high. Some light flatwork with ground poles to practice striding would improve Gabby and Chino immensely. Also, LEG PROTECTION! Some front boots, not just bells, would do Chino some good. My horse gets SMB boots for every ride that we do as she has some pain in the legs. They aren't suitable for jumping, however please use some protection. Liniment will also help their joints like IcyHot does to us. Apply that after every jumping ride and it will lessen their pain and swelling that could occur.

Our trainers are here for a reason, to make us smarter and better riders. I would love to have the opportunity to jump my horse alone, but I don’t for the safety of myself and my horse. Even the best riders out there have their trainers by their side. Unless Gabby is a trainer herself (which doesn’t seem like it) she should have the common sense to know this is not right, for Chino and herself. I don’t know, even if this was a one time thing, I would have hated to see anyone getting hurt. please try to not let gabby make all the decisions for herself!
