I want a longsleve t-shirt. The Odisea logo, on the back, with the Odisea 48 completed boat under it. On the front is the Odisea 48 skeleton, with a smaller Logo on the pocket... and Sailing into Freedom on the sleeves. It should be in the color of the workers uniform, (off white), and if you have a pullover windbreaker, I want one of those, too.

@@teeanahera8949 You can be a very accomplished welder and tack without a shield. I've done it for almost thirty years. The trick is not to look silly. As far as PPE, that is up to the individual or employer. They DO have safety equipment, just choose not to use them. Maybe just settle down a little bit with the insulting part huh? Be responsible for yourself. Trying to mother everybody doesn't really work, and it is not your job.

It's an "open shop". Not a "union shop" or "corporate shop". Safety regulations don't exist. Nor should they. An accomplished, skilled craftsmen should be his own man. I'm an old dog and have been fortunate to have built machines all over the world. I've always been a "hobo" welder. If the inspector is satisfied with my work I can make a decent living anywhere. Personally I wear proper safety gear but I respect those who choose not to or can't afford it. Enjoy the show brother. Plucky, if you get an eye burn put a slice of potato on your eyes overnight. It works. I have no idea why. Love watching your incredible life. God bless.

@stevemorgan4702 I just use a very cool wet facecloth or bandanna folded up to about a 2 inch strip wide and place that over your eyes as you are lying down in bed, you might have a damp pillow for most of the night, but you'll feel much better in the morning. You'll be awake awhile before you doze off, just remember to keep it very damp if the moisture drains away too quick.

As a qualified metal fabricator with experience in steel truck bodies, oil rigs, aluminium radiators and boats etc. I'd be happy to sail in their aluminium catamaran. Keeping up standards and cleanliness. Might just need to buy a few weldibg screens to stop "some" of the welding flash spreading. Still walking around your going to get stung. Worst is when your concentrating on a job and its getting you with reflection or in the corner of your eye. Thats how ive ended up with tomatoe slices resting on my eye lids with eye drops in lol

The reason for the hammer is 2 fold. First and foremost, it does not introduce material that will compromise the weld. It also does nott dent as easy as a harder hammer. (edit: you answered later in the video.)

Peter, we call them " run on/run off" plates nearly always used for FSBW ( full strength butt weld ). Obviously, other people and places will call them something else, sometimes they are longer and the run on and off are longer as well , depending on how thick the parent metal thickness is and to help absorb heat , so that the weld at edges that isnt ground away will have the same contour throughout the needed length of the weld. As the multiple passes get laid down, those little run on/off plates can become very very hot , much more than the parent metal as the heat has nowhere else to expand too, because of the limitations of the end of the plate. Sometimes a too shorter of a run on/off plate can get too hot too quick and therefore the weld contour can not always have same vertical profile at the ends of the needed weld as the centre of the weld, therefore requiring uneven extra build up at both ends resulting in an ugly appearance and possible weld defects, or a grind out ordered by the inspector.

For cat construction, how common is aluminum for the frame material? And what other methods are used? This must be the lightest possible way other than maybe using carbon fiber. Maybe big $$ race cats use that construction method?? And I'm sure Plucky mentioned it in precious episodes but I was probably zoning out.... what is it going to be skinned with.... more aluminum?

if you tried to do this on a property or in the boonies with a few helpers, you'd still be clearing, levelling and getting the strong back, lofting table (no cnc cut-outs for you) shelter up and figuring power and material delivery and storage out, at 3 months you'd still be cutting and reinforcing those bulkheads and 6 months maybe a few have gone up and you've put several fist sized dints in the welders case as warping is slowing you down to a crawl and you start crowdfunding for 5 welders. You're applying all your resources with uber efficiency, and its just brilliant to watch skilled people do quality work quickly with confidence. it really is nothin but quality

The more we learn about any subject , the more we realise we do not know that subject . That does not mean our learning has been wasted , far from it , but it does mean we now appreciate how much more we could learn , if we wanted or needed to , about that subject , skill , whatever . Peter is right , having specialised in a subject a person can realise a route to another subject . I doubt that anyone can master all the subjects , but some can master a few and the very wise can master subjects that actually benefit themselves and their society .
