This tutorial shows how to make 3 different styles of easy rings with bezel set cabochons. For materials, I used 14 gauge sterling round wire, 14 gauge sterling square wire, 8 gauge sterling half round wire, 18 gauge sterling round wire, 26 gauge sterling sheet, and 3/16 inch fine silver bezel in 26 gauge. I use hard silver sheet solder and My-T-Flux from Rio Grande, but I used a bit of easy on the last soldering job.
I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others, as I've taught people for most of my life. This hobby turned into a fun side gig for me for years while I taught public school. I love suggestions and hearing about others' experiences. What is your favorite project? What kind of tutorials would you find useful? Scroll down for information on my new Patreon!

I’ve done a lot of crafts over the years but I’ve never really learned how to solder I’ve been intimidated by it so I’m hoping you can help me learn how to understand the basics. Mostly using the torch. How hot do you have to be to melt solder? I’m afraid I will melt the silver 😮
@chadssilversmithing
@chadssilversmithing 6 месяцев назад
Different solders have different melting temperatures. I mostly use hard silver solder which flows at about 1450 degrees Fahrenheit. Sterling silver melts at about 1650. The skill to learn is to bring the piece up to the solder flow point, but not to melt the Sterling by lingering for too long:). Hope this helps:)

Hi. Thank you for your educational videos on jewellery making. I was attempting to weld a jump ring on a bezel, and I heated up the material then I fluxed it, placed the hard solder on the jumping and heated it to the point where it was cherry red, and it wouldn’t melt. Do you have any suggestions as to what I need to do to correct this.
@chadssilversmithing
@chadssilversmithing 6 месяцев назад
How long did you heat it before it turned red but wouldn't melt?
