I just got a papasan chair and I love it soooooooo much, you just have to rotate it every once and a while and even invest in a new papasan Cushion. They are at world market for 60 to 80 bucks
Lol I was ready to be offended since I’m currently looking for a papasan chair... but then you said if you have cultivated a bohemian style space it can work, and I was like .... well duh 😂
I love my papasan chair and stool. It was the first piece I purchased for my first place 15+ years ago. It helped me realize my style is always bohemian and have even styled my rooms around it. Although I barely sit in it now, it’s a great place to be the holder of blankets and pillows/cushions.
Me: “But I like the papasan chair” 😂 I’m doing a beachy/coastal/boho style for my new house and really like the style of it, hmm... now I’m second guessing lol! 🤔
Any over-stuffed, larger-than-life living/family room furniture, including recliners, especially in ... umm ... "mud" brown. Also, dining chairs that don't move smoothly on the rug.
So just to be clear, you are telling people that they need to sacrifice comfort for style? And let's not talk about the title, which is total bs. Some people need to spend 6-12 hours on their computers, at a desk. Which chair do you think would be best? The one that you literally sink into and is very comfortable or the stiff one that you could last about 3 hours on? The papasan chair is also absolutely lovely for reading, which chair do you think would be most suited for long sessions of reading, the papasan or the one you suggested? Different chairs suit different needs, there is no such thing as "never buy a chair". Instead of telling people to never buy something, why don't you make a video educating people that if they need a certain chair, they can make it work with small adjustments and some knowledge.
Uhhhh what ebay are you finding those papasan chairs? I'm all for the bohemian look and I can't find those chairs ANYWHERE for that price. If i do, they sell out instantly. I feel like they're definitely coming back in style.
I agree. There are always stylish versions of all of these chairs and besides it is really how you style it. Even basic stuff can look stylish if styled correctly.
Don't ever apologize for stating style options, Baiyina!! You're a designer, that's your job. And you have great ideas, and if people want to hate....ignore them! Love your videos!
i'm so glad i gave away my black office chair because it was completely throwing off the fengshui in the room, i haven't really found a replacement in my budget yet, so i use my kitchen chairs and tbh i might get used to it!
The 3 chairs not to buy...I don't like any of them . I like to buy everything on sale and it has to have that expensive look and these not to buy chairs are not it for me . You are on point my sister !!!
I love your videos!! But I gotta disagree on the office chair you recommend lol. In terms of style, yes, it looks better, but when it comes to comfort and back strain, this is not it. I spent 8 hours a day in that chair for months and my butt and back were killing me! I finally told my husband we needed to get a new office chair. We went straight to staples, I found the typical office chair which happened to be on clearance (got a $250 chair for $99) and I am so happy! That pleather chair is so much more comfortable lol! It is very bulky, it does not match my beautiful expensive desk, but it sure does feel so much better!!
I love the work of Charles and Ray Eames, and have a couple of their designs, but with that stained, so called antique, desk, you might want to look for a simple Thonet chair, bleach it and then stain it like the desk. Likely, nobody would sit at that desk a long time, but just do some basic household/family correspondence and administration. And then the less obtrusive, the better, as it's more decor than function.
Thank you, you saved a mistake going somewhere to happen. I'm looking for an office chair and was eyeing the one with the black netting back. That would "throw" off the room that I hope to make it into. I'm glad I found this channel. And yea, that lip color is the bomb!
I was so nervous to watch this because I just bought a new office chair last month - SO happy it turned out to be the one you recommended!! (Eames) whew!
Phew 😏, don't have anynof those chairs. YaY! Back in the day cough 90scough that papasan chair was so damn popular! 🤢 Probably put Pier 1 on the map. But I hated it back then too. You forgot tho the ugly man cave recliner (see Frahier tv show).
Agree 100% with everything minus the glider rocker it isnt prettybut not a waste because it is practical in a nursery especially for mid night feedings. A beautiful and mildly expensive chair that will get spit and food on it is not practical for a nursery.... Like others mentioned I'm shocked that the la-z-boy style recliners arent on here! Or what about the too small club chair? The kind that are nice looking but are so small they look like they belong in children's rooms and rarely fit in with normal sized furnishings 😂
Good advice. I agree with every one of your suggestions! I have the utilitarian office chair and it’s an eyesore. Luckily it’s hidden in a spare room so no one sees it.
I think the Eames chairs definitely look better but any inexpensive knock off will be rock hard & very uncomfortable to sit in for any length of time in my experience.I invested in an ergonomic office chair because I really had to & my office is in a spare bedroom so that furniture doesn't have to blend in with my living area.. But, if you don't need wheels on your chair for your desk--a parsons chair or well padded ottoman can double as a place to sit if you don't have a designated room to use as an office :) I use a parsons chair at my vanity in the bathroom & it works great!
I love the looks of the Laura Davidson SOHO padded office chair I purchased but after 6 months of very light use (under one hour a day average) the cushions began to sag significantly with no zipper access to repair the filling. I purchased through Amazon and used Amazon to contact the seller. Within minutes LD replied saying this was normal wear and tear and basically tough luck. I replied this was unacceptable, they didn't respond. Amazon then contacted them 2 more times on my behalf and each time LD responded instantly (obviously without consideration or thought) with similar 'tough luck' messages. At the end or the day, Amazon also gave up on LD and did the right thing, i.e. refunded a good share of the purchase price. I will NEVER purchase another LD product based on my experience with poor quality and LD's refusal to consider my valid complaints given the price of the chair. Amazon, however, has always done the right thing by me.
I found two rattan folding campaign chairs at a thrift store, about 5 years ago. The originally retailed for $700+ each but, I got them for $55 each. Sadly the metal folding mechanism under both fell apart on me and I haven't been able to get them fixed because i cannot find anyone who knows how to repair them. So I would say be cautious with purchasing campaign furniture, especially if it's expensive.
For anyone thinking about getting a papasan chair, be warned that the cushions are a HUGE pain in the ass to wash because they don’t fit in the washer or dryer. Which is fine if you don’t have pets or kids, but if you do… you’ve been warned!
I wanna suggest a video for you (maybe you've done it already, I don't know) The gliding chair reminded me that when I was pregnant, some people suggested me to get that ugly thing, to use as a breastfeeding chair. Anyway, I'm so against anything that is too specific, that I never got anything baby related, no baby shower, and I don't accept toys. I don't want my home to look like a nursery, and the truth is that babies don't need any specific things (and you can nurse them sitting down comfy only for a few months, after that, they move all over the place, you don't need a especial chair and a especial corner) So, getting to the point... I still need to decorate her bedroom, I don't wanna use an expensive crib, that I'll have to discard in two years -That's too First-Worldy for me. I would like to hear and see suggestions for a chic baby/child bedroom that is beautiful for everybody, classic but fresh looking. I have a few ideas already, but in conclusion: a video on alternatives for baby furniture!! It would be fun (and controversial) :D
Whew, I was looking around my room while this was loading, I’m good. 👍🏼😂🤣 For what it’s worth, I agree with you 100%. A fourth chair for me would be what my husband had before we combined households - a HUGE dark brown leather recliner, complete with ones of those levers to help a foot rest pop-up. 🙄 It’s not so much that it was a recliner, but everything else about it screamed old, dated ugly...and it actually wasn’t old. He gets it now.🙏🏼 PS - looking fab, I love that lip shade!
Oh my goodness, I forgot about those horrid glider chairs. I hope no one still really buys those. But thanks for the suggestion for an office chair. I bought a folding wall mount desk from idea I don't have tons of room for a chair, but what you suggested would work well!
I am laughing at the Papasan chair. I just ordered to pick up in the store at World Market. Yes, Its on sale with coupons. I am purchasing it to go in my Boho/Electro room. I do hope it work. Also the office chair. I am sitting in one right now. I will be ditching it soon. Thank you for this video. This helps a lot.
OMG! 🤣 I love this video. Thank you. I do have 2/3 of those chairs, and I was JUST trying to figure out what to do. I don't use the glider anymore (it was a freecycle find) and the office chair is so so so old. Anyway, thank you for the suggestions. Perfect timing
This is all true... I don't think those new gliding chairs look good either though, they might be preferable, but nah. I was starting to think of what chair to get for my antique desk, I usually don't like functional furniture and I am definitely not getting one of those puffy office chairs, I was thinking of a beautiful upholstered chair with a wood frame, but I don't know how comfortable it would be to actually sit and work for hours from there. Maybe a vintage office chair re upholstered with lighter color leather, I still need to get the old stain off the desk, it looks too dark... So many plans. Your advises are good, don't apologize.
whoisterror you can use a non-office chair for sure just make sure the seat cushion is not too soft. Standard seat height is 18” for sitting at a desk...if it’s an inch off it will hurt you wrists overtime...like if you used a lounge chair that sinks down a bit
The gliders are also pretty dangerous to have in a kids room. Those moving parts underneath almost pinched a few fingers in my home. I like the upholstered version better!
We finally replaced our black office chairs with two super cute ones from Wayfare. One is a nice caramel color and the other is orange. Both are leather with silver frame at the legs. I will admit though, my mom has that rocker. LOL
I have all 3 of these chairs in my livingroom lol. I love them.. wepl not the office chair. That's my husband's. Rockers and gliders are NOT the same. And a rocker is not an alternative to a glider. Sit in them, and actually compare them. I have a 15 month old. My glider has moved rooms alot. But it is my favorite chair. We just got our papasan. Its also a favorite of mine but needs a new cushions. We probably do have the "correct" decor for a papasan according to you. I respect your opinion, but, your wrong lol
I begged my sons father to not buy the ugly office chair for my son this Christmas. I had in mind EXACTLY the chair you recommended. Because he has no style or eye for design he didn’t listen to me.
Lol! I’ve bought all three...yeah office chair looks odd in my Victorian home. The glider I don’t regret. Good memories and looks good where it is. The saucer is outside and only regret it because I’m having issues replacing the cushion. Oh well live and learn.
Thanks Bayina! I learn so much from your videos :). I have a design question for you. Last year I saw a powder blue sofa in a apt tour video. It was love at first sight. I love this sofa and would like to purchase it. However, I'm nervous that it won't match or will eventually appear dated. Generally I like to keep big pieces neutral in my apartment because of this concern. e.g current sofa is grey. But I really love the powder blue sofa and kinda would like to step out of my comfort zone. What do you think? Should I go for it or are my concerns that it will eventually look dated legit?
When I moved in with my partner, his TWO giant papasans frustrated me to no end. They take up tons of space in small apartments and are highly inefficient because they only seat ONE person. I was like “why would you buy TWO of these, but no actual couch, which can not only seat more people while taking up less space, but can also accommodate overnight guests? When we bought a place together, I made damn sure to contribute an actual sofa, and he started to see the benefits. But he’s emotionally attached to the papasans, so I agreed to keep them stacked in a corner. *sigh* Once COVID is over and we host people again, we’ll bring them out.
Yes I so agree ! I actually bought one of those gliders 20 years ago when I was pregnant with my son. They were a thing for a minute. It wasn’t cheap either. I paid close to $600 in gift cards at Babies r Us for both the chair and ottoman. I like the upholstered style you showed much better.
I expected to see the rattan peacock chair in your list. (Morticia Addams chair) I have one in the corner right now and I love it but have never sat in it, the cats do sit in it occasionally. I'll let her go one day but not TOday.
Office chairs are NEVER comfortable....but the "Papasan"....sorry, just can't agree with ya' there. Starting out at my first apartment and got a Papasan Loveseat.....OMG it the MOST Comfy and Fun thing everrrrr!! Me and my friends would have a few drinks....3 of us would be sqeezed together on it....arms and legs everywhere! (Depending on the extent of our activities).... the guys would each grab an end and start swinging us around!! It felt like we were on an amusement ride! Lmao!! Good Times!!! Cut to 5 yrs down the road......I'm married and pregnant.....and let me tell you.....the rocker and leg rest was a Necessity! That was not only a Lifesaver for nursing.....but it came in handy for reading to my kids too! Sooooooo.......Ladies......you're not sheep.....follow your Heart, and pick and choose what is comfortable and works for YOU! 😀😊😁😄🤗🤗
I had a beautiful home office project for my clients, but very sadly he doesn't think the Eames is comfortable enough. He will get instead an ikea office chair that is pretty ugly 😭😭
Hahahahaha- I always thought those rocker gliders were exclusively for nursing mothers! No idea they were the preferred chairs of grandmas- I’m a grandma- I wouldn’t have one if it were given to me. I’d be too afraid someone might think I was nursing😂
Mud brown was used to describe oversized furniture chairs, I love watching Sawyer Miller on junkie paint company and how she takes furniture that's good but brown which she calls brownie frowny...And that's how I describe the color brown. So I use my chalk paint and I paint everything. Good stuff. You should check out their website also, it is junkmonkeypaintcompany.com... but best of all, you can take some of this ladies lovely and incredible ideas it updates and to your BoHo style or eclectic style. All that good stuff. Y'all have a blessed weekend. Remember to vote.
totally! covered it in the 3 sofas you shouldn't buy video - the ugly marshmallow sofa & it's ugly chair lol ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HF7pKRoPSF8.html
OMG, I own the office chair and I am very unhappy with it. I have a Mango wood campaign desk it looks very awkward. I have sat in the Eames chair it's not really comfortable.
E v i e W e s n e r I kind of covered it in my three sofas you should never buy video which goes over the hideous marshmallow sofa and it’s recliner counterpart but it’s probably the worst of all of them, you’re right ;),
Not a fan of that Eames chair with anything other than modern. Not a fan of mid century at all but I would NOT get ANY of those chairs you recommended NOT to get.
