Private flying, parenting and running a business is really hard. But the fight is worth it.
An eventful return flight from Dunkeswell to Earl's Colne.

I admire your engineer's calmness. Expressing concerns on arrival, planning through weather, GPS dropping out, autopilot cutting out, a go-round and strong cross-wind take and landing. your honesty in the VLOGs is refreshing and with all of that going on, you must have a great way of still being able to instil confidence. Great work. I also agree with you regarding GA in the southeast. I'm based in Elstree, but in the summer, I DID a great tail dragger course with Arthur at Farm Strip Flying. It was around the Malvern Hills, Shobdon and Wellesbourne, with little to no airspace concerns/limitations.

I used to fly to Shobdon often from Enstone way back when I started flying. Lovely open airspace!

An entertaining video, Charlie. I usually find, especially when I've had to have a good chat with myself to get off the ground in the first place if I experience a few 'incidents' during the flight, although daunting at the time the end result is I've usually gained a bit more in confidence for next time. It appears you did too... which is why we keep flying!

Agreed - but that feeling of apprehension really is daunting!

Every landing is a go around. Thinking that keeps you ready to go. Good call and no shame in it.

Absolutely agree. Every landing starts as an intended go around, unless it becomes a landing. (One of the reasons I rarely use full flaps! One less task to complete if going around).

An eventful flight indeed. But handled pretty well given the conditions etc. I thought. I wonder whether it was the bumpy conditions that knocked off your auto-pilot? Just a question - at Earls Colne, runway 24 and wind from the NW - you mentioned a few times using right rudder to offset the crosswind - did you mean left rudder?

Thanks. No, the autopilot holds on well in bumpy weather. When it gives up there’s no apparent reason. Once we touched down on the grass, the wind from the right was blowing us to the left. Right rudder is used to correct that, but in this instance all it did was cause us to skid sideways on the grass so I allowed the wind to push us across onto the tarmac.
