It had been so long (9 months) since I've flown cross country in the UK that my proficiency has evaporated and my confidence decayed to the lowest level since I got my PPL.
But I HAVE to push through the nerves and get back in the saddle.
Would the weather be ok? Would I be ok? Where should I even go?
This is the (very detailed!) vlog of my first cross-country solo in the UK for 9 MONTHS! I made a long list of errors, thankfully mostly minor ones.

Couldn’t agree more about over-reliance on SkyDemon. Several times a year I leave the iPad on the ground and do an XC with just the chart.

Glad you got airborne and started feeling current again Just a quick note for the future, Yeovil Westland can't accept fixed wing aircraft and their runway is prohibited to fixed wing aircraft (as per the AIP) so not ideal as a diversion

Oh! Good to know thanks. And shame on me for not checking that in the AIP first. (Would likely have returned to Dunkeswell in the event of not landing at Henstridge).

Charlie, So good to have the flying videos back! Reassuring too that, despite your experience, you get the pre flight butterflies before you fly … I thought it was only me😅

Great to see Charlie! I always find comfort in using the checklist to help keep the focus in preparing the aircraft, it helps with the nerves if I haven't flown for a while and the old cleaning of the windscreen routine before Engine start, just helps me reflect that it all feels normal and I am happy to go commit aviation 😎 Lee

Oh Charlie, man that hangar with its musical plane movements to get to yours at the back! When you put it away again do you now get pole position or do you have to return it to the same slot at the back….? And Comanches are pretty heavy, ask me how I know 😅

Great video, Charlie, you did well sticking to your guns, going flying, and ending the day with a good landing. With all those other planes in the hangar, I think I would have caved in early and just gone home! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Spookily, I flew for the first time after a long absence a few days ago and went through exactly the same emotions as you. When I finally stopped looking for excuses and got my ar$e into gear, I got a decent flight in and subsequently felt much better. It was an identical flight to yours in as much as I made similar errors along the way too, only minor things but errors I wouldn't have made during my last flight. I ended my day with a more than acceptable landing, very similar to yours and the day felt good. I said spookily... the reason for my long delay is because of a house move (I enjoyed your house moving vids by the way) and the registration of my Rockwell, which is a very similar colour to yours, is also similar to yours at N1350J. (We appear to be living in parallel universes just lately!) 😆

Thanks for sharing! Why don’t you get a yoke mount for the iPad? Can’t fall off and not blocking your view…

Not a fan of how heavy it makes the yoke especially when landing in windy conditions! I also am trying to not depend on it so much, so keeping it out of the direct line of sight also a conscious choice!
