Lockheed and Douglas more or less started producing metal monocoque airliners at around the same time. Lockheed's designs tended to be smaller than Douglas' though. So, with Douglas you had teh DC-1, DC-2 and DC-3. Lockheed produced the 10 and the 14. The Hudson was a militarised version of teh 14.
