One exercise I was practicing is the recoil drill. I find it really helps me commit clutch takeoff to muscle memory Come to a gentle stop, front brakes only, handle bars straight, feet stay up on the pegs. Right as I reach a complete stop, I pull the front brakes harder to compress the forks, then release the brakes as the fork rebounds, sending the motorcycle rolling backwards, feet still up on pegs. Then I engage the clutch and drive away, catching any falling motion if I feel I am tipping over. In terms of clutch lever position, 1 is fully pressed in, 5 is fully released, I tend to pop the lever immediatelly into the 3 position at the same time as I just crack open the throttle to 2% and hold it there. I stay in the same 2% throttle 3 position clutch until the bike starts moving, then slowly and gently release 4, then 5 on the clutch as I roll on more throttle
@@ProriderCentralTexasRU-vidit's just the "Stop and go" exercize without putting your feet down at the stop. If you break harder with your front brake and release it a fraction of a time before the bike stops (the final stoping is done by the rear brake) then that "recoil" from forks decompressing and bike standing up (not going backwards like the comenter described) gives the bike stability and allows you to sit there at a standstill, both feet up for a few seconds. Then when you feel the bike is gonna drop you open the throttle and release the clutch. Kind of a combination of "stop and go" and your "trust and believe" exercizes. Hope that helps!
@@ProriderCentralTexasRU-vid Hi Paul yes just got them out last week had the shadow for a ride only 100 kms about 60 miles for you guys in the USA and Sunday took the wing for a little scoot felt pretty good to get out and get the feel of them again about 7 months of not riding and not being young anymore and yes I was practicing what you have learned me wished I would of had your videos twenty some years ago when I first started ridding probably would be a better rider but I am working at it . Thanks for all you have helped me with god bless and I will be practicing have a great week
This one makes me think Paul. Been riding a long time and honestly remember the first bike I rode but not how I was taught to use the clutch. I’ve stalled maybe 4-5 times in all those years but……now that you made me think about it I probably will again 😂😂
