Great upgrades and vid - also love how them wheels turned out. Maybe a lil suggestion from my side since I am just great in finding sharp corners by accident - cut them corners of the palstic plate or they will break skin faster than expected, Murphy will make sure of it. Regards Smarty

Some very practical upgrades to the wheel. Looking forward to seeing you use it on the Zephyr panels I would suggest UHMW (Ultra High Molecular Weight) polyethylene for the slippery surface on the table. It has a low coefficient of friction and is much cheaper than Teflon or Delrin. It is soft enough to not scuff your work but wears well. You can find it through all the supply houses like MSC, McMaster Carr and Grainger.

I use it often at work. The only thing I dislike about it is it is very staticky. Dust and dirt are drawn to it and it's a pain to keep clean.

I’ve got a local plastics place that stocks all this stuff and sheets and all quantities. This particular piece I had picked up for free somewhere so I don’t know what it is but it’s a slippery plastic LOL I would definitely use uHMW if I had to buy it
@jerrylong381
@jerrylong381 2 года назад
@@MakeItKustom Well, hell yeah! Free "almost as good", beats, "I had to go buy it" all day long. Lol One other thing though. If you ever buy Teflon for a project, and you are going to glue it to something, you have to get the stuff that's etched on one side or tge glue won't hold. It is the slippery'est plastic after all. Makes you wonder how they get it to stick to pans, huh. Love your work man.

Great video as always! Love everything you build. I do have one tip for machining the wheels: next time doing something like that, run your dial indicator on the center bore of the part first to make sure it's spinning true on the lathe, then run the indicator on the outside diameter. If you see it's out of round the same amount in the same place, your part could still be concentric to itself, just sitting a little off in the chuck. From there you could adjust the part in the chuck with shims to center it up or just party on if the job doesn't require that amount of precision. Either way, awesome job and thanks for the videos!

Engineering observation/tip: Nice selection of tubing, as it's close fit will allow a collar type retainer. When using a single point to support the table, the primary retention is a small area on the opposing side of the pipe. Too much pressure can easily warp the wall, causing future adjustment problems. The Zaxis tightening screw should be ASKEW to the tubes' axis of travel. ie if it were extended, would never share a point in 3d space. An example would be the cinch for a bicycle seat post adjustment. Hope the sentiment was clear.

Now that you have 'fixed' your wheeling machine, I feel that it is incumbent on me to remind you about the bead roller build that your promised to do many moths ago. Nice design. Rule of thumb is to make things bi/multi-directional and adjustable when you can. You may have invented another theme park ride with the "Fabricator's (magical) wheelie machine ride"...HDPE that's used on hockey rink boards would make a good plastic for that as well. Very slippery.

Lol 😆 maybe you should do your own video of the bead roller then. This man keeps cranking out quality videos and you feel incumbent that you need to remind him that it was many "moths" ago 😆. Also uhmw works just as well self lubricating properties cheaper and easier to source.

I just ran across this. To polish the wheel and anvils, charge a buffing wheel on an angle grinder and hold it at a 45 degree angle to the wheel/anvils. Just let the wheel spin as you buff. The wheel speed can be controlled by the buffer wheel approach angle. The closer you get to 90 degrees, the slower the wheel goes and the faster it buffs.You can get a mirror finish this way. Give it a try. This is a one person job.

Love the work you do and I wish I could open a shop or had a friend or family member that did but no my family is lame and I only have one friend that lives within 8 hours of me so that sucks. The worse part is ha e most if the skills needed do this work. The wheel is looking great! Wonder if that out-of-round was from the manufacturer, or from a long time of wheeling basically in the same spot on it. Or maybe both? A quick tip for things like that height adjust on the table: Put a thin plastic slug or disk before the set-screw. It will make adjustment much smoother and will keep the screw from chewing up the shaft. Sometimes it even holds stronger than metal-on-metal.

Another great informational video. Love watching you work. My first thought on your table was I feel like it should be hinged on the end closest to the wheels - not in the center. You arc will always start at the point where the metal leaves the wheels so I thought you would need to continue the arc from that point to support the workpiece. I think this would also save you the time in setting up the height to match your arc and avoid the possibility of catching the edge of your workpiece on the leading edge of your table. Just my 2 cents. I hope it works out for you and you do a follow up video with another Zephyr panel. Oh, and I can’t wait for more videos on the Caddy and the mini car!

ERW tubing stands for "Electric Resistance Welded." DOM is actually ERW which is cold drawn over a mandrel to remove the inside seam and give to tube better characteristics in the actual metallurgy by elongating the grain structure of the material itself. A longer grain structure will flex and bend far longer that a short grain without work hardening and it is more resilient to permanent deformation. Seamless tubing is made by piercing a red hot billet of steel and then drawing it to size while hot. Seamless is far more expensive and has little to recommend it over DOM as far as performance characteristics are involved. Could you also supply the website for today lets build books for purchase.

A piece of electrical wire and a ring terminal, screw that to your drill press. Slide a piece of hose over the handle of your chuck key trapping the end of the wire : you'll never loose your chuck key again ... or use it for something else. I do that for chuck keys, allen wrenches and every tool needed to adjust my machines, even the wrench needed to change the gas cylinder on my welders : never look for a tool to operate your machine ever again. For my e-wheel, I just use a roller stand as a third hand.

Karl check out Cass's Chanel Cass Nawrocki Shaping Metal. He has some interesting solo fixes for his wheel. And check out his work while there. Quite a talent. Thanks for all you do. You are a very solid teacher and talent. Charlie

Hey where are my rollers on my table top to help material glide better. Food for thought. As if you actually need more lol. Lovely job. Would hate to put a price on some of your thoughts.
