I'm a returning drummer after 3 decades away and I follow a few drum channels here and wasn't planning to follow more (Or I spend too much time on YT & not the drums!), but I instantly recognised what a good teacher you are so I sub'd. I'm kind of at that picking-it-back-up level and discovering my skills were just dormant, not gone forever, so this B to I level is helping me get confidence and practice the skills I need for my small home studio. Awesome!! Thanks Eric! :)
Thank you so much! I hope you continue to get a lot out of the lessons. Make sure you check out my free kickstarter course as well: moderndrumacademy.com/free-webinar/
This video alone gives me so many ideas on making new beats and fills. Takes a lot of focus to get down but once you have its easy to remember how to play
It's more intuitive for me to keep the time with the high hat using my left hand as I play piano. Does that mean I need to arrange my drum kit for left handed people?
This is inappropriate yes but I do find myself doing it to. Actually if you pay attention there are alot of subtle rhythm or maybe patterns within the guitar or vocals in some things that I’ll pick up on for ideas if I’m feeling uninspired. 😊
@@Fisherdrumming drummers and bassists kinda have to sit and take it unfortunately. This is hard because most music in general is terrible or at least not interesting. Thats just me i assume most drummers like to listen to stuff where the drums contribute equally. My teacher said he would take any gig he could get unless it was country. He said dont even call. As drummers we can bare a lot but some have their limits.
This was such a great video! Lots of great advice. I am also a punk drummer that has found my way into a blues/soul/feel type band and I get what he's saying. It's SOOOOOO hard to play quiet on a full drum set in a room with musicians that have tiny or no amps and keep the tempo. Everytime I try and play quiet, I slow down and they're like.....why?? haha I've tried to explain it, I might show them this video. They aren't real keen to play to a click but I think it would help me a lot as I'm forever rushing or dragging. You don't need to worry about that shit in punk haha Cheers legends!
Sorry, but you’re wrong. There’s a lot more happening than making it louder. Listen on real speakers and you’ll hear the difference if you know anything about mixing drums.
Unless your drums sound good, your recordings won't! Just released a new course on recording and producing pro drums from your home studio (on a budget!) Right now you can get 5 FREE lessons from the program here: moderndrumacademy.com
Dude. The creativity to make the drums a viable musical instrument gelled into the music. Carter is a god. So clean, so pocket, so good..... man. Dude might be the most ambidextrous drummer I've ever seen.
