Thanks to this video I went to buy me a whopper plopper and caught my first bass!!! I’m a beginner, love your videos they’re very informative and fun to watch
Best advise ever wait till you feel the fish. The torpedo and the whopper plopper are two of my favorites... Those black whopper ploppers are awesome for night fishing...👍🏼
Richard, I love the fact that you explain and show how you are fishing all your rig ups it is extreemly helpful. I know everyone says this but you really are my favorite fishing youtuber. WOOOOOO, WOOOOO.
Please Keep the videos coming ! These videos are what I watch to help get me through the day. I would like to see another kayak video with light tackle.
My dad had an old metal tackle box and it had a baby torpedo in it along with a lot of old wooden plugs. Me and my brothers would walk or ride our bikes a couple of miles to a watershed and we use to catch the fire out of bass with those ole hula poppers. Brings back good memories
I'm with you Richard on the tiny torpedo I caught my PB smallie of 6lbs on one fishing a mayfly hatch a few years ago it and a devils horse are my 2 favorite top water baits!
I’ve watched a lot of youtubers over the years and I really enjoy yours more than most! Great videos and very informative. I’ve always used lures but after watching some of your videos I really have been enjoying live bait fishing this summer. Little bluegills have been working very well!
I've learned so much about fishing from your videos over the last year - I mean, just the other day I caught a few nice and good sized Largemouth and Spotted bass in a North Atlanta (Georgia) creek that nobody fishes, all while using a Fluke you showed us in one of your creek videos. A lot of people didn't grow up fishing, and/or didn't have fathers or uncles who fished (or knew how to fish - lol), and you're definitely filling that gap for a lot of people. In that sense, your videos, good spirit and unselfish lessons and shared experiences is what we need more in this world. Whether it's fishing or any other past time. Thanks so much and God bless.
I can't believe more guys don't chunk a Jitterbug! I modify the bill to get a better gurgle & it's my fav night time topwater lure for decades. A black one rocks!!
Great video as usual! One thing I've heard when fishing the Whopper Plopper...it's best to tie on a barrel swivel to save your line from getting all twisted up if some grass/debris would happen to get caught up where the tail spins. If the whole bait starts rolling, line will be all twisted up!
Your videos make me remember fishing trips of 50 years ago...could be why I am such a big fan...in the early 70s I used a torpedo and a lucky 13 to catch a bunch of bass in Arkansas White River bottoms and seven devils swamp...always modified both lures...on the torpedo I used pliers to change the tips on the blade, bending one tip out and one tip in...on the full sized lucky 13, I removed the rear treble hook to make the lure bounce back and up at the end of a chug...in those days nearly every bait I had was black...
Well, Mr. Richard, you have done it again. If you can do it, I know I can do it too. I have loved fishing since daddy started us fishing in Canada. Keep these video's coming. I learn so much from you.
Wanted to specially say thanks for showing how to exactly work and use these baits, ive gotten sick of other youtubers fishin but dont show how to work or actually use them. Now i see how to correct when i use them next. Thank you so much. Im definetly Will subscribe

Hey Richard it is on my bucket list fish with you some day about a year ago my brother-in-law passed away he was my fishing buddy for about 35 years kind of gave up on fishing but watching you put me back on the fishing Trail oh and also when I was a young man I used to sing with Ernie Lee go fishing cuz it's good for you back in a jiffy
I use the plopper 75 in the black color, works good for me. I just posted a plopper video on my channel! I love your videos! That Slab Sauce works great!
Richard I have lost more fish using top water lures than anything else, and it's exactly like you said..hesitate before you pop. It's hard to do because you see it and react. Great video keep them coming!!
Love the Whopper Plopper been fishing it for about a year they are amazing I usually burn it smallies love it too the black (loon) and the bone are my favorite keep up the great work!
GREAT VIDEO! Thanks for going over some top water lures and actually explaining and showing HOW TO fish them. Can we see more videos like these for bass fishing? I've never used a top water bait before but now I can go out and try one after watching this demo, KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!
As always great video,, nothing fancy just great fishing!! very educational for the everyday working joe.. Thanks, Thanks Mr. Gene you are heaven sent,,, in my opinion... God Bless..
The ol hula popper has been my all time favorite for top water pond largemouth bass and river smallies and they love the ol frog color' but them Zara spooks are legendary for blue runners and strippers ' awesome video gene' 🎣🎣🎣
Awesome video! "Top water fishing is a fishing technique second to none". I do a lot of fishing down in Southeast Alabama, on the Chattahoochee River. Love to watch your videos.
Your videos are a really, really good watch and much better than some of those so-called brand name guys if you know what I mean. In my opinion yours are more enjoyable because you keep it simple, you keep it real, you keep it very informative, you keep it fun and best of all you know how to keep it so funny! I watch for ALL of these reasons and "cause it's fuuur meeees"! Thank you!!
A clear zara puppy walking across the water will even get a carp to bite. My favorite lure of all time! I change the hooks on my puppies and on the tiny torpedoes as well. They sit lower but the hooks don't straighten out as bad.
Gene I’ve watched you for months and I’m a big fan. If you ever get the chance try a “Heddon Torpedo” that’s my favorite top water bait it outfishes all of them the best size is tiny ! WOOOOOO
That's the reason I love that plopper style bait. I can fish it like a buzz bait or like a popper. I bought a few of the berkley choppos . If I'm not throwing that I'm throwing a frog. It's hard to beat that topwater blow up. 👊👍
Mr. Gene you certainly are the Fishing Machine! Live bait minnows, shad , worms , crayfish. Artificial plastics to topwater you catch em . Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge to help us become better anglers . I noticed you were casting and retrieving back against the current. At least it seemed that way . Is that better ? Thank you again . Oh and by the way . Whooooo !
Richard Jean !! I sure have fun watchi’n your fishing videos!! Appreciate you sharing your fishing knowledge and part of your day with your RU-vid family. Today’s top water video got me thinking ‘bout a Hula Popper top water bait. Have you ever used one of these? Always worked for me and the lakes I fished as a young’n. Keep making videos, I know they’re a mess a work but they’re great!! God’s blessings to you, Miss Lisa and BoneDog!
Zoom Super Speed Craw(Watermelon Red) or Zoom Super Salt Fluke(Watermelon Seed) and an offset shank hook(I like lazer sharp) are my goto for bass fishing. The craw can be used topwater if that's where the fish are biting. I'm in South Louisiana.
I love the Whopper plopper I bought a couple of em a while ago and when the fish are in the mood for a top water they will tear them up....I caught 3 fish on 3 casts the other day on the black one
What size hooks would you recommend for that little torpedo? Which brands of trebles do you like? I've thrown these since I was a kid, but for some reason never considered changing the hook. Thanks for making these videos, they are as informative as they are entertaining.
Hey Mr Gene thats a good spot your fishing there's a few good stumps around the bend for black crappie and that spring by the dock that got blown down holds a lot of fish all year round. I enjoy your video's I've learned a bunch from u fish on mighty Elmo
